Karachi to receive light rain showers tomorrow: PMD predicts

Due to low pressure in Arabian Sea, Karachi will likely receive light rain tomorrow (Sunday) after a week of persisting heat wave across the city.

The Meteorological Office informed that strong low pressure area has formed over Northeast Arabian Sea and adjoining areas.

The low pressure is likely to move West or Northwestward and strengthen into a depression by the evening.

According to the forecast, thunderstorm-rain are likely to scatter in Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Umerkot and Hyderabad districts on 17 to 18 October.

In Karachi partly cloudy weather with chances of gusty winds is likely to prevail today and light rain and dust storm tomorrow, according to the weather department.

Earlier, Karachi in past week experienced an unusual, early winter heatwave after high pressure developed at Central Asia region.

A severe heat wave had struck Karachi and other parts of Sindh in June 2015. It caused the deaths of about 2,000 people from dehydration and heat stroke.

Karachi: Temperature likely to soar to 42°C as heatwave grips the city

Amidst the ongoing heat wave alert for Karachiites by Pakistan Meteorological Department, the temperature will likely hit 42°C in Karachi today.

According to the PMD, the port city was under the influence of a high-pressure area over Central Asia as the sea breeze towards the city had been cut off.

The Pakistan Medical Association and other medical bodies have urged the people to remain cautious and vigilant, advising them to avoid venturing out in the sun from 11am till 4pm.

The temperature remained 37.7°C on Tuesday in the city but due to very low relative humidity, the feel-like temperature was not as higher as the actual one, officials said.

They said they were expecting dry conditions in the city during the next three to four days.

Meanwhile, the Administrator Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shallwani had given directives to put all the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) hospitals and 1122 rescue services on alert.

These steps were taken in wake of the heatwave predicted by the Met Office. All relevant officials and staffers have been asked to remain on duty round the clock.

How To Stay Safe During A Heatwave?

  1. Here are some of the tips advised by health experts to stay safe during the heatwave.
  2. Dress for the weather (wear loose-fitting and light clothing).
  3. Avoid exerting yourself outdoor during the day and plan most activities when the sun has gone down.
  4. Remember to stay hydrated (drink lots of water).
  5. Keep yourself cool by trying to stick to the shade. Don’t stay in the sun for too long.
  6. Always keep your head covered while outside.

Light to heavy rain showers continue to lash different parts of Karachi on Thursday, turning the weather pleasant.

Saddar, M.A Jinnah Road, Nursery, Baloch Colony, Site Area, Malir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad and other parts of the city are receiving downpour.

The continued downpour in Karachi has badly affected the infrastructure and routine life in the port-city. Several areas of the city are flooded with rainwater, while heavy losses to properties and human lives are being reported.

On the other hand, Korangi Crossing Road has been blocked since Tuesday for traffic after flooding in Malir River.

Traffic Police in its update said that the traffic to Gudam Chowrangi has been diverted to Jam Sadiq Bridge. The traffic from Baloch Colony being guided to Qayyumabad, a police statement said.

The traffic Police department has advised citizens to take suggested alternate routes to avoid the hassle.

Taking notice of the Karachi’s situation, Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed federal institutions to carry out relief operations and help rain-hit people in Karachi as heavy downpour brought life to a standstill in the city.

PM Khan has directed authorities concerned to step up relief efforts in rain-affected areas of Karachi and use all available resources in proving relief to people of Karachi.

Parts of Karachi receive heavy to moderate rain showers on Monday morning

On Monday morning, weather of Karachi turned pleasant after heavy to moderate rain hit parts of Karachi.

According to the details, the downpour was reported in Malir, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, PECHS Society, Khudadad Colony, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Bhittabad, Safooran Goth, Sachal Goth, North Nazimabad, Baldia Town, Gulshan-e-Ghazi and other parts of the metropolis.

Soon after the rain, electricity was disconnected from several areas including Gulistan-e-Jauhar block 7, where the citizens are facing difficulties due to power shortage since last night.

On the other hand, the K-Electric (KE) has said that the staff is working to restore electricity in the rain affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted light showers in Karachi today. The temperature of the city was record at 31 degree centigrade early in the morning around 7 am.

Moreover, the humidity in the air was recorded at 40% in the port city, while the winds are blowing at 28 km per hour.
