9th Muharram-ul-Haram is being observed today with due solemnity

The 9th of Muharram-ul-Haram is being observed across the country today (Saturday) with due solemnity and sanctity to pay homage to the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in Karbala.

In this connection, mourning processions will be taken out in various parts of the country.

Ulema and Zakireen will throw light on the teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his great companions in their majalis.

Elaborate arrangements have been made across the country for security of the mourning processions and majalis.

Special traffic plans have also been issued across the country to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow.

In a statement, Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Dr Noor-ul-Haq Qadri said the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) in Karbala taught a lesson to all and sundry to firmly stand for principles against tyranny and barbarism.

Meanwhile, there is a complete ban on pillion riding in Punjab and Sindh till Ashura to ensure law and order situation.

Muharram-ul-Haram: App developed to monitor processions, majalis in Peshawar

The latest mobile application has been developed to ensure strict security during Muharram-ul-Haram in Peshawar.

According to the superintendent of police (SP) city, details of Muharram processions’ routes and deployment of the police is installed in the app. Furthermore, all CCTV cameras are also installed in the app.

The app will help the police to monitor processions and Majalis online and deter any untoward incident.

In the Islamic lunar calendar, Muharram is the first month of the year thus the new year begins with the sighting of the crescent of this month. Shia Muslims observe this a month of mourning worldwide.

Last week, the Punjab government had imposed a ban on pillion riding for 9th and 10th of the Islamic month across the province.

The ban had been imposed under section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code.

According to sources, the ban shall not be applicable to women, children, senior citizens, journalists, personnel of law enforcement agencies and security agencies in uniform.

Yesterday, the Punjab Police had sought deployment of military troops in the province for maintaining law and order situation during the holy month.
