Federal cabinet reviews overall political, economic situation

A meeting of the federal cabinet is underway in Islamabad with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair.

The meeting of the federal cabinet is discussing the overall political, economic and COVID-related situation of the country.

Earlier, the Federal Cabinet meeting had given approval for the presentation of Budget 2021-22 in the National Assembly (NA).

The Cabinet had discussed the Budget 2021-22 proposals for the next fiscal year and approves the hike of pension and salaries by 10%.

Also, the meeting also approved the imposition of taxes on mobile phones.

On June 7, the government of Punjab had proposed a 15% rise in salaries and pensions in the budget of the province for the next fiscal year 2021-22.

However, other than an increase in salaries, the development outlay-Annual Development Plan (ADP)- for the province will be set at Rs480 billion for the next fiscal year.

A total of Rs265 billion would be earmarked for the ongoing projects while Rs130 billion would be set aside for new uplift schemes. A development budget of Rs62 billion is earmarked for Lahore uplift projects.

Federal Cabinet Meeting Reviews Prevailing COVID Crisis, Economic Situation

Prime Minister Imran Khan chairs the meeting of the Federal Cabinet here on Tuesday (today).

The meeting reviewed the overall COVID-19 situation in the country and the measures taken to reduce its spread.

The meeting will also discuss the overall political and economic situation of the country.

The cabinet will ALSO discuss an 8-point agenda during the meeting.

According to sources, the meeting would approve the appointment of a production control manager at Heavy Industry Taxila.

The cabinet would also give a nod to the deployment of the Pakistan Army in aid of civil administration, added sources.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Imran Khan exchanged his views to Islamabad-based ambassadors of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries.

Prime Minister said that Islam is a religion of peace and security, linking it with terrorism is a great injustice.

He said that the ambassadors also gave suggestions with reference to the media and appreciated the thinking and concern of the Prime Minister and said that they would extend all possible cooperation on this issue.

The Special Representative said that the Saudi government has announced the construction of a large mosque at the International Islamic University. The 80-Kanal mosque will have a capacity of 12,000 worshipers in which 2,000 women and 10,000 men will be able to offer prayers.

He said that a library with modern facilities and an Islamic research centre would also be set up in the mosque.

He said that the government has welcomed the announcement of the establishment of another mosque after the Faisal Mosque.

This is a new message of brotherhood, love and strengthening of ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, the premier added.

He said that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are two important countries in the Islamic world and the two countries have a relationship based on faith and belief.

Federal Cabinet Approves Ramadan Relief Package Worth Rs7.8 billion

The federal cabinet has on Tuesday (today) approved the Ramadan Relief Package of Rs7.8 billion in order to facilitate the needy and poor across Pakistan.

The federal cabinet meeting took place in Islamabad with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair and it was attended by Minister for Industries and Production Hammad Azhar and Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry.

Hammad Azhar, while addressing the media officials after the meeting, said that the sale of the Utility Stores Corporation is likely to touch 100 billion rupees this year and it is supposed that USC will earn some profit as well.

“Cabinet has also approved to run two urea small plants of private sectors from this month to meet the requirements of the farmers,” he added.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed the resolve to eliminate hunger from the country by extending support to the deserving people through Ehsaas Program.

Minsiter for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz stated this during a media briefing in Islamabad.

He further discussed about decisions taken by the federal cabinet, which met today (Tuesday) with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair.

After the extension, Javed Ghani will serve as FBR chairman for three more months. Furthermore, the federal cabinet approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the FBI, US and the NAB. The matter of gas loadshedding also came under discussion during today’s meeting.

PM Imran Meets Boxer Amir Khan; exchange views on promotion of sports

He said the biggest challenge of the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) government is to overcome the power crisis.

“Ministers should get a full briefing about their ministries,” the Prime Minister added.

“We have to take our governance performance forward.” He said. “It took three months to understand the current crisis in the country.” Imran Khan added. He said that subsidies should be given for wealth creation. “The purpose of subsidies is to help the weaker sections of the society,” said PM Imran.

Also, The premier chaired the federal cabinet meeting to discuss overall political and economical situation of the country.

The cabinet members also approved Pakistan’s first Electric Vehicle Policy.

Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy and the Mobile Manufacturing Policy were approved by the federal cabinet. The decisions of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) taken on December 16 were also green-lightened by the committee.

The Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet had approved Mobile Device Manufacturing and EV Policy for two and three-wheelers, last week.

The approval was given during ECC meeting presided over by the Minister for Finance and Revenue Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh in Islamabad.

The forum had also approved the removal of withholding tax of 4 percent on manufacturing to retailers of locally manufactured phones and removal of Sales Tax on locally manufactured phones.

Moreover, the federal cabinet also reviewed the 12-point agenda.
