Parts of Karachi faces suspended power supply for more than seven hours after heavy rain

K-Electric, the only power supplier in Karachi, failed to restore electricity to various parts of Karachi after it received light to heavy rain on the second consecutive day on Monday.

Sources said that electricity supply of different areas of the city remained suspended for more than seven hours.

According to the details, New Karachi, North Karachi, Buffer Zone, North Nazimabad, Federal B. Area, Korangi and other areas of the metropolis remained without power supply.

Taking to the social networking website, Twitter, a spokesperson for the K-Electric said, “Parts of Karachi are still flooded and our teams are having to navigate murky waters”

“Despite these obstacles, we will continue to work 24/7 so that your power supply is normalized,” he added.

Earlier on July 26 (Sunday), more than 586 feeders had tripped in Karachi after heavy rain lashed Karachi, causing a large-scale power breakdown in many parts of the metropolis.

The areas facing load shedding include Surjani Town, Baldia Town, Lyari Town, Korangi, Malir Model Colony, Liaquatabad, New Karachi, Nusrat Bhutto Colony, Nazimabad, SITE, Shah Faisal Colony, Saudabad, Defence, PECHS, Akhtar Colony, and more.

Aamir Liaquat Husain, who decided to issue his resignation as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) MNA, revealed he was on his way to the PM’s Office to offer his resignation to Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In a tweet on Monday, Aamir Liaquat has announced he will be resigning from his post as an MNA.

The former MQM member who won on a PTI ticket from NA-245 in the 2018 general elections, had earlier hinted at resigning in a post on Twitter, citing reasons that he is a helpless MNA of Karachi who is unable to provide electricity to the people of the city.

“I confess that I am a helpless MNA of Karachi. I am unable to provide electricity to the people of my city. I cannot see the people of my city suffer. I will ask the prime minister for time and submit my resignation,” he had said.

Karachi has been hit with intense power outages for the last few weeks as the federal government and the Sindh government continue to trade barbs over the city’s power issues and power supplier K-Electric.

Parts of Karachi receive heavy to moderate rain showers on Monday morning

On Monday morning, weather of Karachi turned pleasant after heavy to moderate rain hit parts of Karachi.

According to the details, the downpour was reported in Malir, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, PECHS Society, Khudadad Colony, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Bhittabad, Safooran Goth, Sachal Goth, North Nazimabad, Baldia Town, Gulshan-e-Ghazi and other parts of the metropolis.

Soon after the rain, electricity was disconnected from several areas including Gulistan-e-Jauhar block 7, where the citizens are facing difficulties due to power shortage since last night.

On the other hand, the K-Electric (KE) has said that the staff is working to restore electricity in the rain affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted light showers in Karachi today. The temperature of the city was record at 31 degree centigrade early in the morning around 7 am.

Moreover, the humidity in the air was recorded at 40% in the port city, while the winds are blowing at 28 km per hour.
