Murad directs revenue generating depts to achieve targets

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presiding over a meeting regarding resource mobilisation has directed the revenue collecting department to achieve their targets so that the scope of development works, and poverty alleviation could be ensured.

The chief minister emphasised that the government’s priority for the next financial year is to implement policies and initiatives to stimulate economic growth and raise all citizens’ living standards. Our focus will be on investing in key sectors such as education, healthcare, provision of safe drinking water, sanitation, infrastructure, and agriculture.

Mr Shah said the priorities would be achieved when the revenue-collecting departments would achieve their revenue targets.

Mr Shah said that the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) had a target of Rs235 billion for 2023-24 and the track record of the SRB showed that it had been surpassing its collection targets. He directed Chairman SRB Wasif Memon to reach the target and send him proposals for next year’s targets.

Murad Shah directed the SRB to suggest relief for the taxpayers and proposals for enhancing the SST net for the next financial year. SRB Chairman assured the chief minister that his organisation would reach the target and he would submit his proposals.

The CM said that the E&T dept has a target of Rs143 billion and it has to achieve it. Minister E&T Sharjeel Memon said that he had taken strict measures to achieve the tax collection target and would hopefully, give him good news at the end of June 2024.

The meeting was told that the Board of Revenue has a target of Rs55.218 billion for 2023-24. At this, the CM directed the SMBR to take measures to reach the collection target and send him budget proposals for the next financial year.

Governor KP writes letter to CM for appointment of VCs

PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has written a letter to Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and offered him to work together.

According to the text of the letter, the governor has expressed his concern over the non-appointment of vice-chancellors in the universities of the province.

It has been said in the letter that the students are facing problems including administrative and financial problems in the universities.

The court has also taken notice of the running of the Information and Technology University of Bannu without a registrar and a vice chancellor.

Punjab to provide glasses, hearing aids to 700,0000 students

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif accorded an approval to the project for providing glasses and hearing aids to 700,000 students.

Students in schools across Punjab will be subjected to medical check up of their eyesight and hearing abilities. Students having weak eyesight and weak hearing abilities will be provided with spectacles and hearing aids.

The screening process in the government and private schools across Punjab will be launched soon.

A famous institution, ATscale, will provide Rs. 500 million financial assistance in this regard.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Saturday met an ATscale delegation in which matters pertaining to Internet services in schools and other affairs were discussed.

Matters relating to steps being undertaken to meet nutritional needs among school children also came under review. Health nutrition and other matters were reviewed and the need for making collaboration with the department concerned was emphasized.

It was agreed to undertake steps for the enhancement of school teachers capacity building.

The Chief Minister said a first government school for children suffering from autism in Punjab will be established in Lahore.

“I want to serve the people of Punjab in a true spirit instead of adopting the traditional manner. A positive change is only possible by invoking a new thinking in a modern era. It is the right of every child to attain education according to international standards.

A ‘Packet Milk Project’ is being launched in collaboration with a private sector to meet nutritional deficiencies of the students. We have resumed a free emergency Wi-Fi facility in Lahore,” she added.

Sindh CM launches anti-polio campaign in 25 districts

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that eradication of polio was a collective responsibility, therefore district administration, local bodies, civil society members and our partners must work together to save our children from the crippling disease of polio.

“We are launching a week-long National Immunization Campaign from Monday, 29th April in 25 districts, therefore all the deputy commissioners and SSPs must ensure its success by supporting the polio teams in administering Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) to children below 5 -years of age.”

This he said while presiding over a meeting of the Provincial Task Force for Eradication of Polio here at CM House.

The Divisional Commissioner, DIGs of Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur and Larkana participated in the meeting through video link. The chief minister said that polio had been eradicated from the entire region, except for Afghanistan and Pakistan, both of which have two cases each.

He explained that due to frequent inter-provincial population movements and even from Afghanistan, the country was struggling to eradicate the polio virus.

Minister Health Dr. Azra Pechuho, informed the CM that two cases of polio had been detected in Balochistan’s Dera Bugti and Chaman districts.

The CM was told that the environmental samples (ES) collected from all the districts showed that 43 areas of 11 districts were infected with polioviruses. They include 13 areas of Karachi East, three each of Central, Malir and Korangi, Hyderabad and Sukkur, Six each of South and Keamari, and one each in Jamshoro Jacobabad and Badin.

The chief minister directed the district administration, local bodies and solid waste management authorities to ensure proper cleanliness in the districts where poliovirus has been detected.

It was pointed out that in February 2024 national immunization Days were observed in which 38743 cases of refusal were reported. At this, the CM said that no parent would be allowed to refuse to administer polio drops to his or her children. “If you find any refusal case inform the district administration and they will take strict action,” he said.

The CM appreciated polio workers for reaching door to door to ensure giving polio vaccine to children under five.

Iranian President Raisi arrives in Lahore

LAHORE: President of Iran Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi reached Lahore on the second leg of his three-day official visit to Pakistan.

President Raisi was received warmly by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif who presented a bouquet to the distinguished dignitary upon arrival at the Lahore Airport.

Senior Provincial Minister Murriyum Aurangzeb besides Provincial Ministers Azma Bokhari, Bilal Yasin and Khawaja Salman Rafique were also present at the reception.

Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Akhter Zaman, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwer and Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa accompanied the chief minister.

President Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi accompanied by his spouse and a high-level delegation comprising ministers and businessmen is on a three-day official visit to Pakistan.

The dignitary is scheduled to spend a busy day in the provincial metropolis.

Later, Iranian President Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi paid a visit to the mausoleum of Poet of the East Allama Dr Muhammad Iqbal during his visit to the historic city of Lahore.

President Raisi laid a floral wreath at the grave of the great poet and philosopher, and offered Fateha.

A smartly turned out contingent of the Rangers presented guard of honour to the distinguished dignitary.

Recording impressions in the visitor’s book at Iqbal’s mausoleum, Dr Raisi hailed Dr Muhammad Iqbal as a common chapter in the deep and historic bilateral relations between Iran and Pakistan.

“Islamic Republic of Iran’s supreme leader termed Allama Iqbal as the ‘Brightest Star of the East’ and I am pleased to pay my respects at the mausoleum of a Muslim scholar and standard-bearer of unity among the Muslim Ummah. I salute the spirit of this great person,” the Iranian President wrote.

Balochistan announces to launch air ambulance service

QUETTA:  The government of Balochistan has announced to start air ambulance service for the first time in the history of the province.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has said that instead of selling a plane, the government has decided to use it for public use, one of the two planes of the Balochistan government will be converted into an air ambulance.

Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said that service delivery is being improved in all sectors including health services in Balochistan, substantial results can be achieved by changing decision-making priorities.

He said that People’s Air Ambulance will be deployed for emergency transfer of patients.

LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved 1Kv solar system project for 50,000 households across the province and directed the authorities concerned to start work on this venture immediately.

During a meeting in Lahore, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz ordered to install 1KV solar system in various houses and evaluate the utility.

Maryam Nawaz said that protected consumers who consume up to 100 units of electricity will be eligible, two solar plates, battery, inverter and wires will be given in one KV system.

The Punjab Chief Minister said that it will be able to run fans, lights and small motors etc. while the battery will provide a backup of up to 16 hours.

She said that the scope of solar system for domestic consumers will be expanded gradually.

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has decided to take measures to monitor the sale of stolen or snatched mobile phones and vehicles spare parts in the markets Karachi.

The 31th meeting of the Apex Committee Sindh was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, in which Sharjeel Memon, Home Minister Zia Lanjar, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Corps Commander Karachi Lt Gen Babar Iftikhar,  DG Ranger Major General Azhar Waqas and other concerned officers.

Minister Home Zia Lanjar and IG Police Ghulam Nabi Memon briefing the meeting said that street crime particularly mobile snatching and four-wheeler and two-wheeler theft has decreased due to improved policing, however, the cases of four and two-wheeler snatching has shown slight increase.

Comparative figures for the first three months (January to April) of 2023 and 2024 indicate a decrease in the number of theft cases reported. The number of mobile phones snatched also showed a decline, with 6,813 cases reported in 2024 as compared to 8,688 in 2023, indicating a decrease of 1,875 cases.

However, the overall figures of street crime have shown a decrease of 1613 cases.

The Chief Minister instructed the IG Police to reactivate the Shaheen Force with a dedicated motorcycle squad of 386 motorcycles. The squad should patrol the identified hotspots during peak hours, and each SSP should issue and implement a patrolling plan. Additionally, the police department was directed to revamp Madadgar-15.

The Home Minister announced that an additional 168 vehicles, including 120 motorbikes, would be deployed to enhance the police force’s capabilities.

The Chief Minister instructed the Inspector General (IG) of police to initiate the E-tagging of repeat offenders. A pilot project should be started with 4,000 devices. The IG police reported that the Rules have been drafted and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are being formulated.

PDMA dispatches relief goods for rains hit people

PESHAWAR: On the special directives of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur, relief activities are in full swing in the rain-affected districts across the province.

As an important step in this regard, PDMA has dispatched relief packages for Swat, Mohmand, Peshawar, Lower Chitral, Lower Kohistan and other affected districts. Relief supplies include tents, blankets, kitchen sets, hygiene kits, mosquito nets, mattresses and other necessary items.

Apart from this, disbursement of financial assistance announced by the Chief Minister, has also been started. So far, Rs 30 million have been disbursed among affectees in the different districts of the province.

Moreover, the chief minister has directed the district administrations and PDMA to further accelerate relief activities and rehabilitation of infrastructure damaged by recent torrential rains and floods in the certain parts of the province.

Meanwhile,  330 incidents of walls and roofs falling in different districts took place, 53 houses were completely damaged and 277 houses were partially damaged.

According to PDMA, on the instructions of the Chief Minister, relief checks are being given to the rain victims and relief materials have also been provided.

According to PDMA, the relief items include 200 tents, 100 kitchen sets, 200 blankets, while 100 mats, 200 mosquito nets and 200 mattresses have been given to the victims, and other daily life items have also been given to the victims.

Sindh CM issues alert amid heavy rains prediction

Chief Minister Sindh said that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation(KMC), all towns and water boards should complete the arrangements in their respective areas, all civic agencies should keep the storm drains and drainage system clean.

Punjab Cabinet decides to establish ‘Special Speedy Trial Court’

LAHORE: The Punjab Cabinet has approved the establishment of a Special Speedy Trial Court in the province.

The fifth meeting of the provincial cabinet was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, in which a briefing was given on the amendment of the defamation law and the establishment of a special court.

In the meeting, approval was given to establish a special speedy trial court in Punjab and it was decided that the cases of rape and child cruelty would be brought to an end by speedy trial.

The degree in the defamation case should be completed in 90 days and the trial in 180 days, while it will be presented to the Punjab Assembly for approval in this regard.

On this occasion, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz said that the culture of lying and making false accusations has to be changed.

Murad, Aurangzeb agree to attract foreign investment

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister  Syed Murad Ali Shah and Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb have agreed to collaborate to attract foreign investment and boost exports, enhancing the financial stability of the province in general and of the country in particular.

The CM pointed out that his government has always paid its electricity bills on time, and if any outstanding bills needed to be reconciled, the federal government should have brought the issue to their attention instead of making at-source deductions.

The CM also said that the FBR after reading a news item of the cars registered in Sindh from 1948 to 2015 had deducted Rs6 billion of the province at source. Despite the resolution of the issue still the amount has not been refunded.

The Federal Finance Minister told the chief minister that he was working to develop a proper professional working relationship between the federal and provincial organizations.

“The federal and provincial organizations and institutions have to work together, learn from each other’s expertise, support each other for growth and cooperate for collective uplift and development,” he said.

Mohammad Aurangzeb assured the chief minister that the at-source deduction issue would be resolved amicably. The CM and the federal finance minister also discussed the price escalation of industrial gas. The chief minister said that the industrialists were quite upset with the increase in industrial gas prices.

The Federal finance minister said that during his meeting with the industrialists, they also complained to him. Therefore, they agreed to discuss the matter with the federal minister for petroleum to resolve the issue.

The chief minister said that in the federal Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), the provincial government has not been given any new scheme for the last eight years. Compared to Sindh the other provinces have been given new schemes in the federal PSDP.

It was also agreed that the federal and provincial governments would work together to develop the agriculture sector on scientific and modern methods.

The CM told the federal finance minister that he was working to introduce new technologies to improve crop yield and measures being taken to ensure the provision of certified seed in the market.

Discussing the reconstruction of flood-devastated infrastructure, the CM told the federal finance minister that houses, school buildings, and roads were being reconstructed.

Five killed, eight others injured in rain related incidents in KP

PESHAWAR: As many as five persons were killed and eight were reported injured due to rains for the last 24 hours in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Director General (DG) Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said four houses were reported partially damaged. Four children and woman died while two women, two children and a man reported injured.

Apart from humans, reports about perishing of livestock has also been received.

The Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur has expressed grief and directed to provide relief and compensation cheques to the affected families.

PESHAWAR: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Chief Minister Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur held discussions on matters related to peace and security in the province.

It was decided in the meeting to bring the perpetrators of the incident to justice and eradicate terrorism.

Ali Amin Gandapur emphasized that peace and security are top priorities for the provincial government and ensuring the protection of life and property of the people is the foremost objective.

He mentioned that efforts would be made to strengthen the police and other law enforcement agencies in the province.

The Chief Minister also stated that concrete steps would be taken under a coherent strategy to achieve this objective.

A meeting was held on the law and order situation under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, in which IG Punjab gave a briefing.

The Punjab Chief Minister ordered a crackdown on the sale and purchase of glass-coated strings while asking for a daily update report on the crime situation.

She said that after seeing the video of the child killed by the kite string, her heart trembled. Actions are needed on a war footing for the implementation of the law to prevent kite flying.

The meeting also agreed to develop a fool-proof mechanism to stop drug delivery.

Maryam Nawaz said that cases should be made against big drug dealers with irrefutable evidence, while in the case of rape, the accused should be punished and set a lesson.

It should be noted that a young boy died due to electrocution while trying to fly a kite in Sargodha.

According to the police, the incident took place in the Taqi Park area of ​​Jhal Chakian.

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presiding over a cabinet meeting decided to launch Kissan Card to support peasants.

Chairman Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has given clear instructions for the issuance of Kissan cards and preparing a plan to carry out development initiatives in every district. “I want to constitute a committee to implement the Election Manifesto of the party so that all the 10 points as announced by the chairman can be implemented in true letter and spirit,” he said.

He said that Kissan Cards would be issued to farmers benefiting from various government programmes. He added that it aimed at consolidating the recipient’s information for transparent and efficient implementation of these interventions.

CM Sindh said that his government would develop a digital platform and provide all district administrations with user logins to enter details of farmers in their jurisdictions.The information added to the system would pertain to demographics, contact details, crops and landholding patterns, livestock, irrigation system and mechanization.

Murad Shah said that this initiative would result in an appropriate allocation of schemes to the right farmers, ease in broadcasting messages to the larger masses and the creation of a centralized database.

He said that the Kissan card holders would be given preference in the procurement of wheat and held in case of natural disasters. Mr Shah constituted a committee with the Minister of Irrigation, SMBR, and Secretary of Agriculture to start developing data and submit their recommendations.

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur to let his brother Faisal Amin Gandapur contest on the National Assembly seat from Dera Ismail Khan.

In a video statement, Ali Amin Gandapur said his brother will contest by-elections from the NA-44 constituency which he vacated following his win on the PK-113 Dera Ismail Khan-III seat.

Ali Amin Gandapur said he has conveyed the decision to party founder Imran Khan as well after he inquired Gandapur where he plans to adjust his brother in the provincial cabinet.

“He did not know that my brother was yet to contest the elections,” he said.

Sindh Assembly passes resolution to declare Bhutto as National Democratic Hero

KARACHI: Sindh Assembly unanimously passed a resolution to declare the late former prime minister and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto a national democratic hero.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah submitted a resolution declaring Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto as a national democratic hero in the Sindh Assembly.

Speaking in the Sindh Assembly, Murad Ali Shah said that the Supreme Court itself has admitted that a mistake has been made in the Bhutto case, and the constitution will have to be amended to end the atrocities.

Chief Minister Sindh said that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto should be officially declared a martyr.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement(MQM) member Abdul Waseem said that grandfather was hanged and grandson heard the verdict. He said “We are living in a country where justice is lacking”.

Court annuls order declaring Gandapur proclaimed offender

ISLAMABAD: The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad annulled the trial court’s order declaring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur as a proclaimed offender over the recovery of arms and liquor.

A case of recovery of arms and liquor has been registered against Chief Minister KP Ali Amin Gandapur in Bharakahu Police Station.

Sessions Judge Shahrukh Arjumand heard the review application of Ali Amin Gandapur, in which Ali Amin Gandapur’s lawyer filed a request for exemption from the attendance of his client, which was accepted by the court.

The petitioner’s counsel told the court that the judicial magistrate had declared Ali Amin Gandapur proclaimed offender for persistent non-appearance, but Ali Amin had not received the notice.

The Sessions Court ordered the petitioner to deposit a bond of Rs 50,000 and give a local surety.

The court annulled the order of the trial court declaring Ali Amin Gandapur as the proclaimed offender sent the case back to the trial court and adjourned the hearing till March 14.

35 die, 43 injured due to heavy rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority(PDMA) has released a report on the damage caused by rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to PDMA, roofs of houses and landslides occurred due to rain, so far 35 people have died and 43 people have been injured in various incidents.

The PDMA report states that 346 houses have been partially damaged and 46 houses have been completely damaged.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has announced relief money for the families of those who died and the injured in the accidents caused by rain and snow.

The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa announced giving one million each to the families of the deceased, 300,000 to the seriously injured, and 50,000 to the minor injured.

PPP’s Mir Sarfaraz Bugti elected Chief Minister of Balochistan

QUETTA: Mir Sarfaraz Bugti of Pakistan People’s Party(PPP) has become the Chief Minister of Balochistan.

Polling for the election of the new Chief Minister was held in the session presided over by Speaker Balochistan Assembly Abdul Khaliq Achakzai.

Speaker Balochistan Assembly while announcing the results after polling said that Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has been elected Chief Minister by getting 41 votes.

It should be noted that only Sarfaraz Bugti had submitted the papers for the Chief Ministership of Balochistan, Sarfaraz Bugti also had the support of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) and Balochistan Awami Party(BAP).

In the 51-member house of the Balochistan Assembly, the number of members of the Pakistan People’s Party is 11, while the Muslim League-N is second with 10 seats and the Balochistan Awami Party is third with 5 seats.

Ali Amin Gandapur elected as KP Chief Minister

ISLAMABAD:Ali Amin Gandapur has been elected as Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) here Friday.

The newly elected speaker, namely Babar Saleem Swati, who took the oath yesterday, presided over the KP Assembly session.

In the 106th House, Ali Amin Gandapur bagged 90 votes, while PML-N candidate Dr. Ibadullah Khan managed to secure 16 votes.

Ali Amin Gandapur, who won the elections from Dera Ismail Khan as an independent, had the support of the Sunni Ittehad Council, while his opponent was Ibadullah Khan of the Muslim League-N, who also got the support of the Pakistan People’s Party(PPP)  and PTI parliamentarians.

Speaker KP Assembly while announcing the results said that Ali Amin Gandapur got 90 votes while PML-N candidate Ibadullah got 16 votes, thus Ali Amin Gandapur got 90 votes and was elected as the Chief Minister.

LAHORE: Newly elected Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has called for a plan to provide free medicines in emergency of government hospitals.

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in which the proposal to build a central pathology lab for government hospitals was reviewed. The meeting was briefed that the revamping of major hospitals of Punjab will be completed by June.

In the meeting, recommendations and suggestions were asked for making medical city in three districts. The Chief Minister also sought for a list of vacant, abandoned and closed hospital buildings across Punjab.

In the meeting, Maryam Nawaz called for a plan to provide free medicines in emergencies in  government hospitals and also decided to start home delivery of medicines from May 1.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz asked for suggestions to improve the pathology lab system.

On this occasion, she said that free medicines are the right of the people and government will fulfill the promise of giving medicines. She said the people of backward and remote cities also have full right to medical facilities.

PHC stops police from arresting Ali Amin Gandapur

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court(PHC) extended bail of Ali Amin Gandapur, nominated chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and also stopped police from arresting him in any ongoing investigation.

Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Waqar Ahmed of Peshawar High Court heard the case of nominated Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur.

The lawyer said that Ali Amin Gandapur is the nominated Chief Minister, and there is a fear of arresting Ali Amin Gandapur in old cases, Punjab police are roaming here, and there is a fear of arresting him.

Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim remarked that how did the Punjab police come here and arrest the petitioner?

The court granted Ali Amin’s bail till March 19 and ordered that Ali Amin Gandapur should not be arrested in any case.

The court also asked for the details of the cases.
