ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif removed Chief Commissioner Islamabad Captain (Retd) Anwar ul Haq.

Muhammad Ali Randhawa is likely to be posted as Chief Commissioner Islamabad after the removal of Captain (Retd) Anwar ul Haq. Muhammad Ali Randhawa is a Grade 20 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service.

A letter has been written to Secretary Establishment Division on behalf of Admin Ghulam Murtaza, Section Officer of Ministry of Interior.

It has been said in the post that the Ministry of Interior wants to use the services of Chaudhry Muhammad Ali Randhawa, appointed as Commissioner Lahore in the Punjab Government, as Chief Commissioner in Islamabad or Capital Development Authority, so his services should be entrusted to the Ministry of Interior.

ABBOTTABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif launched the Shuhada Package to support the families of the federal government officials martyred in the line of duty, comprising cash assistance, housing allowance as well as free education and medical treatment.
The prime minister, who visited the family of late Customs Inspector Syed Hasnain Ali Tirmizi, who was martyred in a firing incident in Dera Ismail Khan a few days ago, handed over a cheque under the Shuhada Package to the grieved family and assured his government’s all-out efforts for the security of the customs officials serving to purge the country of smuggling.

Offering Fateha for the martyred soul and sympathizing with the bereaved family, he said that the Shuhada Package, earlier announced by the Punjab government, had now been extended to the federal government and could be revised further considering the country’s financial position. Under the package, the family members of a martyred sepoy would get Rs 10 million cash assistance and Rs 13.5 million housing allowance besides free education and medical treatment. The family of a martyred customs inspector would be entitled for a Rs15 million cash and Rs25 million housing allowance along with free education and medical facilities.

During interaction with the family members, the prime minister showed compassion and affection to the orphaned children and called them the “children of a hero” and his father the “father of a hero” of whom the whole nation felt proud.

The prime minister paid tribute to the late customs inspector who sacrificed his life while fighting against the smuggling and to save billions of dollars for the national economy.

He also lauded the patience and perseverance of the martyred customs inspector’s father and apprised him of his government’s ongoing efforts to curb smuggling, citing his multiple meetings on the subject.

He also thanked Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir, KP government, provincial chief secretary, and Inspector General of KP Police for their support in the federal government’s endeavour against smuggling so that people could use their produce and the country could earn foreign exchange through exports by legal means.

ISLAMABAD: As the world observes World Malaria Day on Thursday, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif called for a vigorous political commitment and adequate investment strategies to reach the goal of a world free from the disease.

President Asif Ali Zardari asked all provincial governments and other stakeholders to take joint measures to control malaria disease. In his message on the occasion of World Malaria Day, the president underscored that prevention, diagnosis and treatment of malaria was possible.

The World Malaria Day is observed every year on April 25 to create awareness and find solutions to the challenges being faced in controlling the disease.

The Government of Pakistan is committed to providing all health facilities to the people, he said adding that Pakistan was determined to implement new initiatives under the Global Malaria Programme.

President Zardari pointed out that the measures were aimed at testing, confirming and standardizing the treatment of every suspected case of malaria.

Expressing satisfaction over the Ministry of National Health’s concerted efforts to combat malaria through a joint unit, the president said the Common Management Unit Malaria adopted a comprehensive strategy.

On the other hand, prime minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a message on the Day, stressed the need to learn from each others’ experiences and support each other’s’ efforts in combating the disease.

He said the research and academic institutions needed to flag scientific advances to both experts and the general public, international partners, companies and foundations to showcase their efforts and reflect on how to further scale up malaria control interventions.

KARACHI: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the mausoleum of Father of the Nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, where he paid his respects and offered Fateha.

This is the first visit of Shehbaz Sharif to the Mazar-e-Quaid after he took the oath for the second term as the prime minister on March 4, 2024.

The prime minister laid a wreath at the mausoleum and also penned his comments in the visitors’ book. In his remarks, the prime minister said he was there to pay tribute to the great Quaid for his great struggle to create a separate homeland and show his respects to him.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif took notice of the “willful” delay in tax cases and ordered for suspension of Commissioner Inland Revenue Islamabad and other relevant officials.

While issuing a directive for the suspension of all the relevant officials, the prime minister also asked for initiating an inquiry against them.

Soon after assuming the office, the prime minister had directed for immediate reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and decided to oversee the process himself.

As per details, billions of rupees’ cases related to government revenues have been pending for adjudication in the Tax Tribunals.

The prime minister had requested the Chief Justice of Pakistan for the early disposal of such cases.

Recently, the prime minister took a notice of one of these pending cases in which an FBR counsel had sought adjournment and directed the relevant authorities to inquire into the matter.

The prime minister observed that the national exchequer had been suffering due to the pendency of such cases involving worth billions of rupees tax matters.

Shehbaz Sharif made it clear that he would not tolerate any kind of lethargy in pursuance of such legal matters, and under his pledge with the nation, would continue monitoring the tax reforms.

Iran’s President Raisi arrives in Pakistan on three-day visit

ISLAMABAD: President of Iran Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi arrived here Monday on a three-day official visit till April 24, to meet the leadership and discuss the regional developments as well as bilateral cooperation.

This marks the first visit by any head of state to Pakistan after the general elections in February 2024.

As the Iranian president landed at Nur Khan Airbase, a red carpet was rolled out to accord him a warm welcome. Federal Minister for Housing and Works, the minister-in-waiting, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada received the guest. Clad in traditional attires, two children presented bouquet of flowers to the dignitary, who is accompanied by his spouse and a high level delegation comprising the foreign minister and other members of the cabinet, senior officials as well as a large business delegation.

During the three-day visit, President Raisi will meet the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Chairman of Senate and Speaker of National Assembly.

He will also visit Lahore and Karachi and meet with the provincial leadership. Besides discussing regional and global developments, the two sides will have a wide-ranging agenda to further strengthen Pakistan-Iran ties and enhance cooperation in diverse fields including trade, connectivity, energy, agriculture, and people-to-people contacts.

Later, President of Iran Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi was given a guard of honour as he arrived here at the PM House to meet Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, along with his high-powered delegation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz welcomed the visiting dignitary on his arrival at the venue of the formal welcome ceremony. The national anthems of both countries were played as the Iranian president stood at the salute dais along with the prime minister.

The smartly turned-out contingents of the armed forces presented a guard of honor to President Raisi. PM Sharif and President Raisi planted a sapling at the lawns of the PM House in connection with the Earth Day.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said that the economic and cultural relationships between Pakistan and China were rapidly growing due to China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

In a message on global observance of Chinese language as one of the largest dialects for communication, he said that a sufficient number of Pakistanis were learning the Chinese language which was further cementing ties between the people of the two countries.

The United Nations (UN) observed the UN Chinese Language Day every year on April 20 to highlight the contribution of Chinese literature, poetry and language in world culture.

The prime minister observed that steps were being taken at the official and public sectors levels to promote the Chinese language and literature so that the people to people contacts between the two countries could be further strengthened.

Today was the observance of the Chinese language as the global language, he said, adding that the dialect had been an exponent of centuries old Chinese culture.

In the last few decades, China had been proving its mettle in economic prosperity besides, the Chinese language and culture had been becoming popular across the globe, he added.

In separately issued statements, both the president and prime minister said that the timely action by the police averted a huge life loss, and reiterated their firm resolve to wipe out terrorism from the country.

“The whole nation will unitedly fight out the terrorism. The miscreants will be rooted out from the country,” the president remarked. Commending the efforts of the federal cabinet and relevant authorities for the successful visit, he said the Saudi delegation was impressed by the preparations of Pakistani ministers and officials.

He also thanked Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for his special interest in Pakistan, which led to a successful visit by the Saudi delegation. “We must ensure the completion of this investment in Pakistan with the same spirit and dedication,” the prime minister added.

He warned that no obstacles or hindrances in this regard will be allowed. PM Shehbaz departs for Saudi Arabia in first foreign visit

ISLAMABD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif departed to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in a commercial airline for a visit from April 6 to 8. This would be the prime minister’s first foreign visit since his election.

He is accompanied by federal ministers Including Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Abdul Aleem Khan, Attaullah Tarar and Ahad Khan Cheema. Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz also accompanied the prime minister.

The prime minister, after his arrival in KSA tonight, would stay in Madina Munawara.

DSP, gunman martyred in Lakki Marwat attack

Lakki Marwat: Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gul Muhammad Khan and his gunman were martyred in terrorit attack on a police vehicle in Lakki Marwat.

According to the police, a policeman was also injured in the firing by the terrorists and he was to Naurang Hospital.

Rescue sources said heavy police force reached the spot after firing incident and a search operation is underway in the area to arrest the terrorists.

It should be remembered that earlier in March 2023, DSP Iqbal Mohmand was martyred along with his gunman in a terrorist attack in Lakki Marwat.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned a terrorist attack on police personnel in district Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Chairing a meeting regarding security situation in the country, the prime minister said he had decided to personally review the meetings with respect to the overall security of the country especially the security of the Chinese citizens.

He said war against the menace of terrorism will continue till its complete eradication from the country. He directed the interior ministry to uproot terrorism completely from the country and to increase collaboration with the provinces to further improve the provincial anti-terrorism departments.

The prime minister also instructed to chalk out a comprehensive strategy for the regular audit of the security SOPs.

The interior ministry briefed the prime minister in detail about the overall law and order situation of the country and the performance of the ministry.

Pakistan will continue its moral, diplomatic support to people of Palestine: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that Pakistan would continue its moral and diplomatic support to the people of Palestine until their liberation from the Zionist occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestine state as per pre-1967 borders.

The prime minister, in his message on Quds Day, annually observed on the last Friday of Holy Ramazan (Jumuat-ul-Wida), said the entire Pakistani nation condemned the Zionist oppression and expressed solidarity with the suffering Palestinian people.

He said for the past seven decades, Israel had illegally occupied Palestine and Jerusalem and continuously violated international laws and human rights to maintain its occupation, while the international community acted as a silent spectator.

The prime minister said that the Israeli occupation and atrocities spanned over the last seven decades but its intensity increased manifolds since October last year. “So far, 32,000 Palestinians, including 17,000 children, have been killed and 70,000 injured in Gaza. Hospitals, refugee camps and schools have been deliberately targeted.

Despite the UN Security Council’s resolution for ceasefire, the unprovoked bombing of innocent civilians by Israel continues in Gaza,” the prime minister commented. He reiterated Pakistan’s demand for the international community to play its role to pressure Israel to stop oppression against the Palestinian people.

He also requested the Muslims in Pakistan and all over the world, observing the last Friday of Holy Ramzan to specially pray for their Palestinian and Kashmiri brothers and sisters for their salvation from the atrocities.

New IMF programme crucial for economic stability: PM

ISLAMABAD Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government was planning to enter a new programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which he said was very important to consolidate the country’s economy.

“With the new IMF programme, the international institutions will have more trust on us and we will be able to move forward on the agenda of development and prosperity with more confidence,” he said while speaking with the participants of the cabinet meeting held here under his chairmanship.

He said the finance minister was going to Washington this month with a delegation to participate in the IMF spring meetings where he will also discuss details of the new programme with the IMF.

He said although the terms of the new deal would not be so easy, but the government will shift the burden of the tough conditions from the less privileged to the wealthier.

The prime minister hoped that after the IMF board meeting, the last tranche of existing standby agreement worth $1.1 billion will be disbursed to Pakistan this month. As regards PIA divestment, he said the privatization process of Pakistan Airlines was on track and the schedule set for the process would be fully implemented.

He said outsourcing of the airport, the prime minister said a Turkish company was arriving Islamabad on April 6 which would negotiate the outsourcing process with the Pakistani authorities. As regards, digitization of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the prime minister informed that the consultants for the digitization process would be appointed by end of current month.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he recently chaired a meeting of Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) in which details of various sectors including finance, investment, exports, Information Technology, agriculture, power and petroleum were discussed.

“After a detailed meeting, it was decided that I will personally review the sector wise performance to solve out the problems faced by the sectors and to streamline the country’s economy,” he added.

The prime minister pointed out that the government had fulfilled its due responsibility with respect to the inquiry of the matter of letter by the Islamabad High Court judges by forming an inquiry commission led by former Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani.

Afterwards, he said Tassaduq Hussain Jillani recused from the commission, subsequently the Supreme Court took a sou motu notice of the letter. As regards receiving letters by the judges with suspicious powder, the prime minister said the government was investigating the matter. “The government, with the sense of responsibility will also probe this matter to uncover the reality.”

“Due to the efforts of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Pakistan got the 1973 constitution which was agreed upon by all political parties,” the prime minister said in a statement.

He emphasized that the Supreme Court, in its latest ruling, affirmed the true extent of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s political aspirations.

“His services in promoting democracy and democratic traditions in Pakistan will always be remembered,” the prime minister added.
