ISLAMABAD: Another polio has reported in Pakistan, which has increased the number of cases from across the country to 48 this year.
According to an official of the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), the lab has confirmed ‘WPV1’ wild poliovirus type one.
A case of polio was reported in a 28-month-old boy from Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. DI Khan is one of the polio-affected districts of South Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
This is the third polio case from Dera Ismail Khan and the 48th case in Pakistan this year. Genetic evaluation of samples collected from the child is underway.
According to an official of NEOC laboratory, 23 polio cases have been reported from Balochistan, 13 from Sindh, 10 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.
It should be remembered that yesterday a case of polio was reported from Ghotki district of Sindh, this is the first case of polio from Ghotki.
