PAF contingent reaches KSA for ‘Spears of Victory-2025’

ISLAMABAD: A contingent of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) comprising JF-17 Thunder Block-III fighter jets alongside dedicated air and ground crew has landed at King Abdul Aziz Air Base, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to participate in the multinational combat exercise “Spears of Victory-2025.”

“For this International deployment, PAF fighters flew non stop from home base in Pakistan to Saudi Arabia, carrying out in flight Air-to-Air refuelling; showcasing long range employment capabilities of JF-17 Block-III Aircraft,” an Inter Services Public Relations(ISPR)  said.

During the conduct of the exercise, PAF pilots flying AESA & Extended Range BVR Equipped JF-17 Thunder will be pitched against participating Air Forces equipped with a wide variety of sophisticated Combat Aircraft.

The exercise is witnessing participation of fighter jets and Combat support elements from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Bahrain, France, Greece, Qatar, UAE, UK and USA.

Royal Saudi Air Force is holding the fifth cycle of the exercise, which provides an excellent opportunity to bolster interoperability within the participating Air Forces in the back drop of technological advancement, increasing complexity in Airpower application & shared aerial defence challenges.

Pakistan, KSA agree for qualitative change in bilateral trade

RIYADH: Pakistan and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia agreed that it was now necessary for the two countries to bring about a qualitative change in their economic, trade and investment relationship.

The bilateral relationship was discussed as Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif had a “warm and cordial” meeting with Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud on the sidelines of the One Water Summit held here.

The Crown Prince spoke of his great pleasure at meeting the Prime Minister Shehbaz for the fifth time over past six months.

He said that this was the evidence of the genuine love and affection that connect the peoples of the two countries.

The Crown Prince stressed that it was important to ensure that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enhance meaningful cooperation that will bring about economic growth and prosperity in Pakistan.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction at the pace of progress of the implementation of the MOUs and agreements signed between the two countries regarding investment in Pakistan.

The Prime Minister thanked the Crown Prince for his most genuine affection for the people of Pakistan.

He reiterated his invitation to the Crown Prince to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience. The Crown Prince responded that he was looking forward to his visit to Pakistan.

Later in a post on his X time-line, the prime minister referring to his meeting with the Crown Prince, thanked him for his personal interest and support in building closer Saudi Arabia-Pakistan ties for the benefit of the two nations.

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar  said that implicating Saudi Arabia for petty political point scoring was regrettable and indicative of a desperate mindset.

The deputy prime minister, in a statement on the comments by the spouse of PTI founder Imran Khan regarding Saudi Arabia, also urged all political forces to desist from compromising Pakistan’s foreign policy in pursuance of their political objectives.

“Implicating Saudi Arabia for petty political point scoring is regrettable and indicative of a desperate mindset. We urge all political forces to desist from compromising Pakistan’s foreign policy in pursuance of their political objectives,” he said.

Calling Pakistan and the Saudi Arabia “close friends and brothers” he said the Pak-Saudi bilateral relationship was based on mutual respect.

The deputy prime minister said that the Pakistani nation was proud of its close relationship with Saudi Arabia which always stood by Pakistan through thick and thin.

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia reaffirmed their desire to enhance defence cooperation in all domains to achieve self-sufficiency in the field of defence production, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

According to the ISPR, 7th meeting of Pakistan-KSA Bilateral Defence Industrial Forum was held at Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

Pakistan tri services delegation was led by Chief of General Staff (CGS), Lieutenant General Muhammad Avais Dastgir, whereas, Assistant Defence Minister, Engr Talal Bin Abdullah Al Otaibi led the Saudi Arabian side.

During the meeting, dignitary from the KSA acknowledged Pakistan’s achievements and sacrifices in war against terrorism and its valuable contributions towards regional peace and stability.

The forum discussed challenges to global and regional security and their implications on Defence Forces.

The forum noted that rapid advancements in modern technologies necessitated further enhancing defence industrial cooperation in critical capabilities between the two brotherly countries. In this context, progress of ongoing areas of collaboration was reviewed while new areas of collaboration were also agreed.

7th Monkeypox case detected in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Another person has been tested positive for Monkeypox in Islamabad on Monday, a total 7 case was reported in the country so far.

The 44 years old person came from KSA, belongs to Gujarat district of Punjab and it is the 7th Mpox case this year and 6th after World Health Organization (WHO) emergency declared last month.

The patient is currently at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Islamabad and stable.

The Mpox causes signs and symptoms which usually begin within a week but can start 1–21 days after exposure. Symptoms typically last 2–4 weeks but may last longer in someone with a weakened immune system.

The common symptoms of mpox are: rash, fever,sore throat, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy and swollen lymph nodes.

It should be noted that last month the World Health Organization declared monkeypox as a public health emergency.

RIYADH: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the economic ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had entered a new era as both countries were set to take concrete measures to boost the volume of bilateral trade in the coming days.

The prime minister, in a meeting with Saudi Minister of Commerce Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi on the sidelines of the Special Meeting of World Economic Forum here, said the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) was playing an active role in promoting and facilitating the foreign investment in the country.

The Saudi minister told the prime minister that on the directives of Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, the Kingdom was prioritising trade and investment in Pakistan.

A delegation of Saudi businessmen, traders and investors would soon visit Pakistan, he added. PM to attend World Economic Forum meeting in KSA

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday will travel to Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to participate in a two-day special meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on ‘Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy for Development’.

The prime minister was invited to attend the WEF meeting by Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman  Al Saud and WEF Founder and Executive Chairman Professor Klaus Schwab.

The prime minister will be accompanied by the key members of the federal cabinet. During the meeting, the prime minister would spell out Pakistan’s perspective on health, financial technologies, information technology, comprehensive development, regional cooperation and an equitable and sustainable use of energy for the global progress.

On the sidelines of the WEF meeting, he is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with the global leaders, head of world bodies and other important personalities. About 1,000 leaders from business, government and academia will participate in the Special Meeting on Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy for Development.

The meeting, 28–29 April 2024, will focus on new pathways to reinvigorate growth globally amid the challenges posed by an increasingly fragmented geopolitical and economic environment. “Building on the inaugural Growth Summit, held in Geneva, Switzerland last year, the meeting, 28–29 April 2024 held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will revolve around three themes: revitalizing global collaboration; a compact for inclusive growth; and catalysing action on energy for development,” it was added.

The event bridges the growing North-South divide, which has further widened on issues such as emerging economic policies, the energy transition and geopolitical shocks.

The statement further says that the meeting’s programme includes a variety of pressing global issues.

ISLAMABD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif departed to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in a commercial airline for a visit from April 6 to 8. This would be the prime minister’s first foreign visit since his election.

He is accompanied by federal ministers Including Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Abdul Aleem Khan, Attaullah Tarar and Ahad Khan Cheema. Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz also accompanied the prime minister.

The prime minister, after his arrival in KSA tonight, would stay in Madina Munawara.

During his visit, the prime minister will perform Umrah and offer prayers at the Masjid Nabwi Al-Sharif, Foreign Office said in an earlier press release.

The prime minister is expected to meet Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz and discuss issues of mutual interest.

The leaders will also exchange views on regional and global developments. Pakistan and KSA have longstanding fraternal relations rooted in religious and cultural affinity.

The people of Pakistan have the deepest respect and regard for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, it was added.

The leadership of both countries is committed to advancing the fraternal ties and mutually rewarding economic and investment relations.

ISLAMABAD: Minister of Health, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Fahad bin Abdurrahman Al-Jalajel assured full support towards new health initiatives in Pakistan.

The Saudi minister made this assurance during a meeting with the Caretaker Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Dr Nadeem Jan on the sidelines of the 70th Session of the WHO’s Regional Committee of the Eastern Mediterranean in Cairo.

Senior officials from the Saudi Ministry of Health were present during the meeting. Bilateral fraternal relations between Pakistan and KSA are based on common faith and aspirations, the minister added. The Minister of Health Kingdom of Saudi Arabia noted with appreciation that relations with Pakistan in the field of health have touched a new level.

Dr. Nadeem Jan discussed the possibility of mutual collaboration in the vaccine production capacity. The Saudi Health Minister offered to provide assistance and support in developing vaccine production capacity in Pakistan. Both the ministers agreed to exchange of expertise through a team of health experts to formalize the transfer of technology.

Dr. Nadeem Jan expressed gratitude for accommodating Pakistani doctors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He discussed the possibility of exchange of knowledge and expertise especially in the field of nursing and paramedics. The Saudi Health Minister agreed to send a high-level team from Saudi Health Ministry to deliberate on this proposal and formalize an MoU soon.

Dr Nadeem Jan also explained his innovative idea of establishing a “Pharma Park” in Pakistan to manufacture the basic ingredients of medicines. The Health Minister of Saudi Arabia appreciated the idea and expressed his willingness to support Pakistan in the establishment of the proposed Pharma Park. Dr Nadeem Jan informed the Saudi Minister about the steps for polio eradication in Pakistan. He highlighted the newly revamped communication strategy and the localized operational hub for stopping the wild poliovirus circulation in high-risk zones.

The Saudi Health Minister lauded the strategy for the eradication of polio from Pakistan. The minister informed that Pakistan is sending a team of doctors and paramedics, with a 30-bed field hospital equipped with all the diagnostic and life-saving emergency interventions to Afghanistan for the provision of health emergency cover to the victims of earthquake in Herat.

The Saudi Health Minister appreciated this gesture and informed that the King Salman Relief Centre is also busy in providing emergency relief to the victims. The minister apprised the Saudi Health Minister of the forthcoming Global Health Security Summit in Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have reiterated their desire to further improve bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade, economy and defence.

This was discussed at a meeting between the visiting Chief of General Staff of the Saudi Armed Forces General Fayyadh bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, who along with the members of his delegation, called on President Dr Arif Alvi, at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Welcoming the delegation, the President said Pakistan highly valued its relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) which had always supported Pakistan at difficult times. He stated that both brotherly countries enjoyed excellent relations in various fields and had commonality of views on various regional and international issues. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing bilateral economic and financial ties with the Kingdom for the mutual benefit of two brotherly countries.

The President highlighted that Pakistan was looking for investment as the country had huge potential for the investment in the agriculture and IT sectors. He apprised the delegation that Pakistan had constituted a Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) to serve as one window platform to fast-track decision making and facilitate Foreign Direct Investment in four key areas: Information Technology, Agriculture, Energy and Mining in the country, especially from the KSA.

Expressing satisfaction at the existing level of cooperation, the President said that the high-level exchanges of military leadership of two countries would further boost defence cooperation. He informed that he was highly impressed by the vision of Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman that led to the normalisation of relations between the Kingdom and Iran and would also bring peace and prosperity to the region.

He appreciated the role played by the KSA in the Organization of the Islamic Countries for important Muslim causes, especially for Palestine, Kashmir and Afghanistan. He deeply thanked the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for providing financial support to Pakistan to deal with its economic challenges. He asked General Fayyadh bin Hamed to convey his warm regards to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.
