ISLAMABAD: China’s Minister of Central Committee of the International Department of Communist Party of China (IDCPC), Liu Jianchao on Friday said as its “iron brother and time-tested friend”, China accorded a special place to Pakistan in its foreign policy and desired to strengthen the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.

The senior Chinese leader expressed these views in a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, held here in  Islamabad.

Liu expressed satisfaction at the steady pace of the Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and said China would extend full cooperation to Pakistan for the timely implementation of all ongoing and new CPEC projects.

He also lauded the political parties of Pakistan for their steadfast support of CPEC and China-Pakistan friendship.

He reiterated China’s keen desire to enhance further linkages between the Communist Party of China and the political parties of Pakistan.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar appreciated the positive contribution of CPEC to Pakistan’s socioeconomic development, progress, and prosperity.

He underscored that as the flagship project of President China’s Belt and Road Initiative, CPEC had led to a major transformation in energy security.

Lauding the unanimous political consensus on CPEC in the two countries, Dar expressed Pakistan’s firm resolve to build upon the achievements of CPEC and its high-quality development in Phase II.

Pakistan, China sign 23 MoU to deepen bilateral cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China on Friday signed 23 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to deepen bilateral cooperation in multiple areas including transport infrastructure, industry, energy, agriculture, media, health, water, socioeconomic development, and other areas of mutual interest.

The MoUs were signed after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his Chinese counterpart Li Qiang held delegation-level talks in Beijing wherein they reaffirmed that the Pakistan-China Strategic Cooperative Partnership was characterized by mutual trust, shared principles, and strategic governance, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch told the media at her weekly press briefing.

Both sides also expressed unwavering support for each other’s core issues and reiterated their commitment to the high-quality development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the timely completion of ongoing projects.

Both sides also resolved to protect the CPEC from detractors and adversaries with Prime Minister Shehbaz PM reaffirming commitment to ensure the safety and security of Chinese personnel and projects in Pakistan.

The two countries agreed to maintain high-level exchanges, including strengthening of institutional linkages in all tiers and spheres, besides continuing to holding consultations on matters of bilateral and global significance, particularly during Pakistan’s two-year term as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the term 2025-2026.

The spokesperson said that since his arrival in China, the prime minister has met with Chinese investors and businesspersons to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan. In the meeting and events including a Business Forum in Shenzhen, he encouraged the Chinese companies to invest and develop joint ventures.

Several MoUs have also been signed with Chinese companies in economy, green energy, textiles, and manufacturing.

Before he departed for a five-day visit to China, the prime minister had told the Chinese media in an interview that he would engage with Chinese business leaders to secure investments and yield dividends mutually beneficial for companies on both sides.

The prime minister, who arrived here Wednesday on the second leg of his five-day China visit, appreciated the robust support of CIDCA for CPEC projects and for Pakistan’s socioeconomic development, particularly the establishment of Pakistan-China Friendship Hospital, the Desalination Plant in Gwadar, and the New Gwadar International Airport.

Terming the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as the hallmark of ironclad friendship between Pakistan and China, they noted that the Joint Working Group on Socioeconomic Development under the CPEC had yielded positive results.

They also expressed confidence that the momentum would continue in the CPEC phase II to improve the lives and livelihoods of the people.

Prime Minister Shehbaz underlined that the governments and the peoples of both countries had always stood in solidarity with each other during times of natural disasters and calamities.

He commended CIDCA’s pivotal role in supporting developing countries particularly Pakistan during the COVID-19 pandemic, the post-2022 flood reconstruction, and the grant of polio vaccines.

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said that the economic and cultural connections between the people of China and Pakistan are strong and focused.

In a video message ahead of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to China, he said that a delegation comprising of one hundred and twenty six Pakistani businessmen is also visiting China.

“China has an important role in Pakistan’s development. It has always helped Pakistan in difficult times,” he added.

He said there is a big opportunity for us to export the country’s products to neighboring China, adding, Pakistani business delegation will sign investment and export agreements with their Chinese counterparts during the visit.

The Minister for Planning also recalled that the first phase of CPEC focused on infrastructure development, adding, this also provided two hundred thousand job opportunities to the youth.

Ahsan Iqbal said the government is focusing all its efforts on ensuring high growth rate on sustainable basis.

Pakistan firmly upholds one-China principle: President

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has reiterated that Pakistan firmly adhered to the one-China principle as the country always chooses to stand on the right side of history.

“Pakistani people loved China as “there is no conditionality between us,” the president remarked in an interview with the Chinese media published on Wednesday, marking the 73rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan.

This was the first such interaction of President Asif Ali Zardari with any foreign media after being re-elected for the second time in March. Recalling the rapport between the previous leaders of the two countries, President Zardari said, “My late father-in-law, Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto told the nation to look east, to look towards China.”

President Zardari, who had visited China nine times during his first term as Pakistani president, reaffirmed Pakistan’s stance of upholding the one-China principle, rejecting any form of “Taiwan independence.” “Taiwan is part of China. There’s no other way,” the president said, adding that Pakistan will always stand by China and safeguard China’s core interests.

Commenting on the development of Gwadar Port, a starting point of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), President Asif Ali Zardari said a lot of work had been done at the Gwadar Port since the launch of the CPEC 11 years ago, noting that the Port would always welcome investors from all over the world.

President Zardari said Pakistan is encouraging more schools to adopt the Chinese language into their compulsory curriculum.

Emphasizing the importance of strengthening people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, he called for more policies to facilitate the movement of people between the two countries.

BEIJING: Pakistan and China expressed joint determination to accelerate progress on all projects of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) including ML-I upgradation, Gwadar Port and realignment of Karakorum Highway.

The bilateral ties and cooperation were discussed in a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC), Liu Jianchao here.

The deputy prime minister is on a four-day visit to China mainly to co-chair the Fifth Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

In the meeting, the two leaders also reaffirmed the importance of the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership between Pakistan and China and to further reinforce mutually beneficial collaboration.

They discussed the longstanding cooperation and exchanges between the political parties of Pakistan and the Communist Party of China. Senator Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm support to China on its core issues while Minister Liu expressed China’s support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and high-quality socioeconomic development.

The deputy prime minister and foreign minister expressed condolences and shock over Chinese casualties in the heinous Shangla attack, and reiterated Pakistan’s firm resolve to counter terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and to bring perpetrators of the Shangla attack to justice.

He underlined the measures taken by Pakistan to ensure enhanced security of Chinese projects, personnel and institutions in Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said that the economic and cultural relationships between Pakistan and China were rapidly growing due to China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

In a message on global observance of Chinese language as one of the largest dialects for communication, he said that a sufficient number of Pakistanis were learning the Chinese language which was further cementing ties between the people of the two countries.

The United Nations (UN) observed the UN Chinese Language Day every year on April 20 to highlight the contribution of Chinese literature, poetry and language in world culture.

The prime minister observed that steps were being taken at the official and public sectors levels to promote the Chinese language and literature so that the people to people contacts between the two countries could be further strengthened.

Today was the observance of the Chinese language as the global language, he said, adding that the dialect had been an exponent of centuries old Chinese culture.

In the last few decades, China had been proving its mettle in economic prosperity besides, the Chinese language and culture had been becoming popular across the globe, he added.

GWADAR: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar urged the people of Balochistan, particularly, the youth to avail the historic opportunity of development in their province as the detractors of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) were about to lose their relevance very soon.

The prime minister, addressing the inauguration ceremony of Pak-China Friendship Hospital and Gwadar Seawater Desalination Plant here, said the journey of CPEC would surely move forward, not the backward, so joining the development course would be a prudent decision.

“Those who think to change the course (of CPEC) by force, violence or any other means are committing historic blunder as their relevance will be over very soon. The prudent decision in the nation’s fate is to joint the course of development, instead of resisting it and miss the opportunity,” he remarked.

He said the ease in the form of reduced travel durations across the province was just due to CPEC intervention.

He told the gathering that trade worth $36 trillion was expected to take place in and around China in the near future, therefore it was a must to join the journey through skill development and claim the share, instead of showing hostility.

He said the journey of China’s modernisation was significance and steering millions of people out of poverty was unprecedented.

He said the clean drinking water had been an issue faced by the Gwadar people and the desalination plant project would address it to a great extent. Besides, the construction of a 150-bed hospital would provide quality healthcare to the people, he added.

He also thanked the Chinese ambassador for announcing the solar power project and emergency services for Quetta.

Prime Minister Kakar assuring the all-out support of the federal and provincial governments on the matter of security, reiterated that the Pakistan Army, police and law enforcement agencies would safeguard the Chinese workers even at the cost of their lives.

Earlier, the prime minister, along with the Chinese ambassador and Balochistan chief minister unveiled the plaques to inaugurate the projects which followed the presentation of the souvenirs to the prime minister as well as the envoy.

In his address, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong congratulated the people of Balochistan over the inauguration of the desalination plant providing clean drinking water.

KARACHI: State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to Issue Rs 100 Commemorative Coin to mark 10th anniversary of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC).

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has contributed greatly to Pakistan’s infrastructure and economic development since its decade of inception in 2013.

To mark the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, the Government of Pakistan has decided to issue a commemorative coin of Rs.100.

The coin shall be issued through the exchange counters of SBP Banking Services Corporation from August 11, 2023.

The coin is round milled with serrations on the edge, diameter of 30.00 mm, weight 13.5 grams, and has Cupro-Nickel metal contents (Copper 75% & Nickel 25%).

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif assured the Chinese investors to further simplify the procedures for the companies working in Pakistan, especially under the umbrella of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and implement them in letter and spirit.

He said under the CPEC, the two countries were entering into a new era of cooperation, therefore the government was further streamlining and simplifying the procedures to facilitate the Chinese companies and investors working in the country.

PM Shehbaz assured the Chinese investors that the difficult time for them was now over as “We are going to do this under one umbrella as a one window operation and this I mean in letter and spirit…not just words but true implementation”.

Addressing an award ceremony here, Shehbaz Sharif said that the Chinese government and companies had contributed towards Pakistan’s industrial promotion in various areas and their contribution had not only led to creating job opportunities and industrial production but also further strengthened the bilateral economic ties.

Earlier the prime minister gave awards to top-performing Chinese companies working especially in projects under CPEC in Pakistan.

He said recently the two friendly countries had celebrated a decade of CPEC under Belt and Road Initiatives (BRI). He said China had so far invested a valuable $30 billion under CPEC which had really transformed the economic landscape in Pakistan.

“Now we are entering into the second phase of CPEC in which multiple new areas are being incorporated including the green corridor, Information Technology, and Special Economic Zones.

He said the Pakistan government had launched a great initiative “Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC)”, which would consist of all main stakeholders including the federal government, all provincial governments, and institutions, particularly Pakistan Army led by General Syed Asim Munir.

SUKKUR: Provincial Minister for Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah inaugurated 11 state-of-the-art Rescue 1122 ambulances in Sukkur which will be operated by Sindh Integrated Emergency & Health Services (SIEHS). Out of these two ambulances have been donated by China Aid specifically for CPEC route.

Sukkur is the ninth district to get Rescue 1122 ambulances after Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Larkana, Qamber, Shahdadkot, Badin, which are being operated under the guidance & funding of Health Department, Government of Sindh.

Out of these eleven ambulances, four will be Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), three will be Advance Life Support (ALS) & four will be Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances.

These ambulances are outfitted with life-saving drugs, medical equipment, and trained paramedics, and they will serve the region 24 hours a day, seven days a week to transport critical patients from their homes to hospital, hospital to hospital or from any accident location to hospitals.

The SIEHS Rescue 1122 ambulances’ command and control operations are supported by an ACE certified call center (Accredited Center of Excellence) system with a robust IT infrastructure.

This expansion of the emergency ambulances will not only provide quality pre-hospital emergency services to those in need in the district of Sukkur but also employment opportunities to technically trained residents of Sukkur district, ensuring improved quality of life.

Sukkur residents could access this service by dialing 1122 from any cellphone or landline.

ISLAMKOT: Minister for State Dr. Mahesh Malani inaugurated the synchronization of 330 MW of ThalNova with the national Grid by switching the button in the control room of the project on Friday.

Minister for State Dr. Mahesh Malani, on behalf of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah whose private flight was canceled due to bad weather in Thar, inaugurated the project.

The CEO of Hubco Group Kamran Kamal and CEO ThalNova Saleemullah Memon gave a detailed briefing to State Minister Dr Mahesh Malani about the project and lauded the efforts of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah for his support and encouragement to the investors for generating electricity from Thar Coal.

The Chief Minister in his message to the inauguration ceremony said that the addition of power plants like ThalNova that utilized local fuel would significantly support Pakistan in reducing its dependency on imported fuel. He added that ThalNova has also created hundreds of direct employment opportunities for locals.

He said that the coal reserves of Thar could be used to generate 100,000 MW of electricity for over 200 years. “The utilization of Thar coal would immensely impact Pakistan’s development, allowing the government to save up to $6 billion on fuel imports,” he said..

It may be noted that ThalNova Thar Power Limited is a 330 MW Coal Fired Power Project based on Thar Coal. It is part of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The Project is a joint venture among Hub Power Company Ltd (Hubco), Thal Engineering Ltd, Novatex Limited, and China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) which is also the EPC contractor.

The Project started construction in March 2019 to ensure the earliest utilization of indigenous Thar Coal. The Project experienced delays due to COVID-19 pandemic. The Project has now been synchronised onized with the national grid.
