President for imparting marketable education to younger generation

President for
  • “Presently, the younger generation is uncertain about their future.”
  • International Education Day observed every year on January 24
  • Arif Alvi said education is an important factor in human progress.

ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi has urged the need of imparting the country’s younger generation with marketable education and provide them equal opportunities to excel in their career.

“Presently, the younger generation is uncertain about their future and many of them are leaving Pakistan for a brighter and more prosperous future in developed countries. We need to impart them with marketable education and provide them equal opportunities to excel in their career. We should also focus on the enrolment of out-of-school children,” he said in his message on International Education Day observed every year on January 24.

The President said that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had envisioned the education system of Pakistan as the driving force behind all the national goals. In the first National Education Conference held in Karachi, it was decided that the education system would work according to the national aspirations of Pakistan and it would be truly related to the needs of the people of Pakistan, he added.

He said, “on this day, Pakistan vows to raise the literacy rate in compliance with the 2030 Agenda of Sustainable Development by providing school access to all children and improving the education system by providing marketable skills to youth and enabling them to earn a respectable livelihood with modern technology and social development of a country”.

He said “Education is an important factor in human progress and the basic right of every citizen of Pakistan. It is considered to be closely related to the economic and social development of a country.”

“Without substantial investment in human resources, no country can achieve sustainable economic development. The literacy rate is an important indicator to measure the level of education. Its consolidation has a profound impact on other important indicators of prosperity,” he added.

The President said, “Education in a broader sense improves the capabilities of individuals and the capacity of institutions and becomes a catalyst for the closely interrelated economic, social, cultural, and demographic changes and national development.”

“Education is a powerful driver of development, and one of the strongest instruments for reducing poverty and improving health, gender equality, peace, and stability. It delivers large, consistent returns in terms of income, and is the most important factor to ensure equality and inclusion,” he added.

“For its part, Pakistan will continue to extend its full political, diplomatic and moral support to the valiant Kashmiri people in their just struggle for dignity and rights including their inalienable right to self-determination, in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council,” the president said in his message on the occasion of Right to Self-Determination Day, being observed on January 5.

President orders FUUAST to award unfairly withheld degree to student

President orders
  • President directed PBM to redress the grievances of the student.
  • He directed FUUAST to issue the degree to the student in 15 days.
  • FUUAST unfairly and unjustly withheld the issuance of degree.

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi on Tuesday expressed his displeasure over callous and heartless act of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) to withhold the issuance of a transcript and degree to a BBA student due to procedural hiccups between the university and Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM).

While rejecting the representation against the decision of the Wafaqi Mohtasib (WM), the president directed PBM to redress the grievances of the aggrieved student.

He also directed FUUAST to issue the degree and transcript to the student within 15 days.

The president observed that the university was well aware that the student was pursuing his education on a need-based scholarship under the Ehsaas Scholarship Programme paid by PBM directly to the University.

But instead of resolving the late fees payment issue with PBM, the FUUAST unfairly and unjustly withheld the issuance of degree and transcript to the student who had no role in the payment of fees.

President Alvi upheld the Wafaqi Mohtasib order wherein the Mohtasib had remitted the impugned matter to the PBM chairman for its resolution directly with FUUAST and notwithstanding its resolution, issue the transcript and BBA degree to the aggrieved student.

As per information, student Abad-ur-Rehman (the complainant) had preferred an appeal seeking interference of WM for issuance of the BBA degree and transcript which was withheld by FUUAST due to non-payment of outstanding dues of Rs 122,500 which was payable by PBM directly to the FUUAST without any involvement of the student.

President upholds order to grant due share to 4 sisters in property

President upholds order
  • President gave orders under the Enforcement of Women’s Property Rights Act.
  • He underscored that such an amicable settlement could not be brushed.
  • Sisters launched complaints against brothers over not giving property.

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has upheld the orders of the Federal Ombudsman for Protection against Harassment of Women at Workplace (FOSPAH) to grant four sisters their due share in the inherited property belonging to their deceased father after putting the property for open auction/sale and the proceeds to be distributed among all the siblings.

The President gave these orders under the Enforcement of Women’s Property Rights Act, 2019 in a case where four sisters had complained to FOSPAH that their brothers had declined to give their inherited right of share in the property of their deceased father and had prayed that their respective shares should be given to them.

The President in his decision observed that the brother along with other legal heirs of the deceased had signed a statement agreeing to enter into an amicable settlement, according to which the property in question, a house in Rawalpindi, would be evaluated through a commission appointed by FOSPAH to evaluate the market value/price of the said property and after fixing the market value of the said house, every sharer of the house would be given his/her due share as per the shari share and also all the expenses made would be deducted/adjusted whoever had spent duly.

The President underscored that such an amicable settlement could not be brushed aside at the desire and instance of a single signatory whereas all others were owning and accepting the same settlement. He further stated that it was a well-settled principle of law that a person cannot blow hot and cold and a person having a choice between two courses of conduct is to be treated as having made an election from which he cannot resile.

He noted that in the instant case, the brother had signed the joint statement with his consent during the course of the proceedings before the Ombudsman and had stated that he had no objection to the evaluation of the said property.
