Barack Obama responds to Donald Trump’s victory in US Election 2024

Former US President Barack Obama shared his thoughts on Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential elections, offering congratulations to both Trump and J.D. Vance via the social media platform X.

Obama acknowledged that while the election result did not align with the hopes of many, given the significant policy differences between him and the Republican candidate, it was crucial to respect the democratic process. He emphasized that for democracy to thrive, it is essential to accept the outcome, even when it doesn’t match one’s preferred vision.

The former president further stressed the importance of upholding democracy by ensuring a peaceful transition of power, regardless of political disagreements.

Barack Obama expressed pride in Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz, praising them as exceptional individuals who led impressive campaigns. He stated, “Michelle and I could not be prouder of Vice President Harris and Governer Waltz – two extraordinary public servants who ran a remarkable campaign.”

He also shared his gratitude for the officers and volunteers who dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to the presidential election effort, acknowledging their vital contributions.

Barack Obama emphasized that in a diverse nation like the United States, where people from various backgrounds coexist, it’s natural not to always agree with one another. He further stated that for the progress of the country, it’s essential to engage with those who, despite strong differences, approach matters with good intentions and respect.

It is worth noting that Donald Trump has been elected as the 47th president of the United States, marking his second term in office. Out of 538 electoral votes, Trump secured 277, while his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, received 226 votes.

‘Shoot them dead’: Philippine president Duterte in his own words

Philippine president
  • Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was known for his foul-mouthed tirades, vulgar jokes, and threats to kill people.
  • His remarks were directed at everyone from drug users and critics to world leaders and even God.
  •  Philippine President-elect Rodrigo Duterte endorses the killing of corrupt journalists.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who step down on Thursday, was notorious for his foul-mouthed tirades, vulgar jokes, and threats to kill people.

His unfiltered remarks were directed at everyone from drug users and critics to world leaders and even God, but he remained popular among Filipinos fed up with out-of-touch politicians and corruption.

Here are some of his quotes since taking power in 2016:

“Hitler massacred three million Jews. Now there are three million drug addicts (in the Philippines). I’d be happy to slaughter them.”

On September 30, 2016, Duterte likens his deadly crackdown on drug users to Hitler’s efforts to exterminate Jews, although vastly underestimating the number of people killed in the Holocaust by the Nazi leader’s regime.

“If you know of any addicts, go ahead and kill them yourself as getting their parents to do it would be too painful.”

Hours after being sworn into office on June 30, 2016, Duterte visits a dockside slum and urges Filipinos to kill drug users.

“Who is this stupid God? This son of a whore is really stupid in that sense. You created something perfect and then you think of an event that would tempt and destroy the quality of your work.”

Taking aim at the biblical creation story, Duterte questions why God would create Adam and Eve and then expose them to temptation on June 22, 2018.

Shoot them dead

“My orders are to the police and military, also village officials, that if there is trouble or the situation arises that people fight and your lives are on the line, shoot them dead.”

On April 1, 2020, Duterte issues a shoot-to-kill order against coronavirus lockdown troublemakers after a protest over food aid.
