Prince Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’ earns new world record

  • Spare by Prince Harry has broken the record for fastest-selling non-fiction book.
  • Book sold 1.43 million copies on its first day of release in the UK, US and Canada.
  • Spare had a print run of two million copies when it was first released in the US.

Spare by Prince Harry has broken the record for fastest-selling non-fiction book ever.

In the UK, US, and Canada, the book sold 1.43 million copies on its first day of release.

A second print run has been planned in order to meet the enormous demand for Spare, which was ghostwritten by American novelist and journalist J.R. Moehringer. Spare had a print run of two million copies when it was first released in the US.

Barack Obama’s fourth book, A Promised Land (2020), which sold 887,000 copies on the day of its release, had previously held the record before Harry’s book.

Many merchants are offering it at a discount of up to 50%, despite having a cover price of $36 in the US and £28 in the UK.

“As far as we know, the only books to have sold more in their first day are those starring the other Harry (Potter),” according to Larry Finlay, managing director of Transworld Penguin Random House.
