ECP adjourns hearing of PTI intra-party elections case

ECP

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) adjourned the hearing of the PTI intra-party elections case until April 8.

The case pertains to the legitimacy of PTI’s internal elections and their compliance with ECP regulations.

A three-member bench, headed by Member Sindh Nisar Durrani, heard the case, with PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Akbar S. Babar, and others appearing before the commission.

ECP member from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa raised questions about who is managing PTI’s internal affairs, noting that the media has repeatedly mentioned Salman Akram Raja, sparking concerns about his role in the party.

PTI’s intra-party elections have also faced criticism for alleged controversy and a lack of transparency, fueling debates over the party’s internal management.

Barrister Gohar stated that the party is currently managing its affairs under indoor management and emphasized that the issue would be resolved once the ECP provides the necessary certification.

In response, an ECP member urged PTI to vacate the stay order obtained from the high court, to which Barrister Gohar clarified that no stay order exists regarding the proceedings of this case.

An ECP member further remarked that the case is not a trial and that it is not feasible to reserve a decision while waiting for a judicial ruling.

The member also pointed out that the documents submitted by PTI are incomplete, raising questions about the adequacy of the evidence provided.

Akbar S. Babar, a founding member of PTI, emphasized that the matter is of significant public importance. He urged the commission to announce its decision immediately, stressing the need for a timely resolution.

Speaking to the media after the hearing, Babar went further, calling PTI an illegal organization and demanding that its accounts be frozen.

  • Shwetabh shared details of a phone call with Samay.

Comedian Samay Raina has been facing immense mental pressure after delet0ing all episodes of India’s Got Latent following multiple FIRs filed against him and the show’s makers. YouTuber Shwetabh Gangwar, a close friend of Samay, recently revealed that the comedian is struggling with the controversy.

In a now-deleted video, Shwetabh shared details of a phone call with Samay, stating, “Bhaisahab, toota hua hai vo insaan (He is a broken man). When the controversy first erupted, I could still see the old Samay in him, but when I spoke to him last time, I saw a broken man… depressed, sad, scared,” as reported by Free Press Journal. He further added that he took a social media break because he felt helpless. “I was emotionally drained. I couldn’t see my friend like that,” he said.

Samay, currently in Canada for live shows, has sought time until March 17 to return to India and record his official statement. During a recent performance, he joked about the controversy, as shared by a fan, Shubham Dutta, on Facebook. “Thanks for paying my lawyer’s fees,” Samay quipped to the audience. He also referenced Ranveer Allahbadia, saying, “Iss show pe bahut mauka ayega, jahan aapko lag sakta hai ki main bahut funny kuch bol sakta hoon, par tab BeerBiceps ko yaad kar lena bhai.”

Meanwhile, during a Supreme Court hearing on March 2, Justice Kant addressed remarks made by Samay during his Canada show without naming him. “These youngsters are being overly smart. They think we are probably an outdated generation. One of them has gone to Canada and spoken there. They don’t know the jurisdiction this Court enjoys and what can be done. We don’t want to take action because they are young; we understand,” he remarked, as per Live Law.

  • ‘Fans can connect you with anyone,’ she said.
  • She dismissed the speculation as baseless.

Actor Mahira Sharma has addressed recent rumors linking her romantically with Indian cricketer Mohammed Siraj, dismissing the speculation as baseless.

In an interview with Filmy Gyan, Mahira was asked about fans expressing heartbreak over the dating rumors. Responding with surprise, she said, “Kisi ka kuch nahi hai (There is nothing). I’m not dating anyone.”

When questioned about handling link-up rumors as a public figure, she explained, “Fans can connect you with anyone. We can’t stop them. When I work, I am linked to them (co-stars) too. They make edits and all. But I don’t give much importance to all this. If you like this, do it, but there is nothing like this.”

Last month, ETimes reported that Mahira and Siraj were in a relationship and keeping it “hush hush.” The rumors gained traction after Siraj liked one of Mahira’s Instagram posts, and the two followed each other on the platform.

However, Mahira’s mother, Sania Sharma, dismissed the claims. “What are you saying? People say anything. Now that my daughter is a celebrity, people will link her name with anyone, so should we believe them?” she told Times Now.

Mahira, known for her roles in Naagin 3, Kundali Bhagya, and Bepanah Pyaar, rose to fame after participating in Bigg Boss 13.

‘This is bullying’; Millie Bobby Brown speaks up against media scrutinizing her appearance

Millie Bobby Brown
  • Millie Bobby Brown has spoken out against media outlets.
  • Her comments follow discussions about her recent blonde-haired look.
  • Netizens claimed her new appearance made her look older.

Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown has spoken out against media outlets for scrutinizing her appearance, calling it “bullying” rather than journalism.

Brown’s comments follow widespread discussions about her recent blonde-haired look during promotional events for her upcoming Netflix film, The Electric State. Some publications and social media users claimed her new appearance made her look older.

In an Instagram video posted on Tuesday, Brown criticized the media’s focus on her physical appearance. “The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices, it’s disturbing… This isn’t journalism. This is bullying. Let’s do better. Not just for me, but for every young girl who deserves to grow up without fear of being torn apart for simply existing,” she stated.

Reflecting on her experience growing up in the public eye, Brown added, “I started in this industry when I was 10 years old. I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can’t seem to grow with me.”

She also pointed out how some expect her to remain the same as she did in Stranger Things Season 1. “They act like I’m supposed to stay frozen in time… And because I don’t, I’m now a target,” she said, highlighting media headlines questioning her appearance.

Refusing to apologize for growing up, she declared, “I refuse to make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of people who can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman.”

Several actors, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Emma Caulfield, Enola Holmes co-star Louis Partridge, and Brazilian actor Kevin Vechiatto, expressed their support for Brown.

UN human rights chief voices concern over situation in Kashmir

UN

UNITED NATIONS:UN human rights chief Volker Turk has voiced over the situation in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir as he called on the international community to intensify efforts to defend fundamental freedoms and the institutions founded to promote them.

“I am concerned by the use of restrictive laws and harassment against human rights defenders and independent journalists resulting in arbitrary detention and a diminished civic space, including in Kashmir, “Turk told the Human Rights Council, which is meeting in Geneva.

He also called for stepped-up efforts to address violence and displacement in the Indian state of Manipur, based on dialogue, peacebuilding and human rights.

Turk’s remarks about Kashmir, drew a protest from India’s Ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Arindam Bagchi, who  called them “unfounded and baseless.”

“As India was mentioned by name, let me begin by emphasizing that the world’s largest democracy continues to be a healthy, vibrant and pluralistic society. Unfounded and baseless comments in the update contrast jarringly with ground realities,” the Indian envoy claimed.

Presenting his global update covering more than 30 countries, the High Commissioner noted that there were some 20 conflicts described as “outrageous” the fact that legal safeguards for non-combatants were being repeatedly ignored around the world.

“Civilians are deliberately attacked. Sexual violence and famine are used as weapons of war,” Turk said. “Humanitarian access is denied, while weapons flow across borders and circumvent international sanctions. And humanitarian workers are targeted.”

In 2024, he added, a record 356 humanitarian workers were killed while providing aid to people in some of the world’s most appalling crises.”

“Our world is going through a period of turbulence and unpredictability, reflected in growing conflict and divided societies,” the High Commissioner said.

“We cannot allow the fundamental global consensus around international norms and institutions, built painstakingly over decades, to crumble before our eyes.”

In the Occupied Palestinian Territory, the UN rights chief emphasized that the fragile ceasefire holds in Gaza “and becomes the basis for peace”.
