Stand-up comedian Samay Raina, who gained immense popularity with his talent show India’s Got Latent, recently addressed the controversy surrounding a remark made on the show by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps.

The controversial question led to multiple FIRs against Samay and his fellow judges, resulting in a temporary ban on their content. While Ranveer was granted relief by the Supreme Court, Samay has now issued a statement expressing regret.

Following the backlash over Ranveer’s controversial remark, Samay left for his Canada tour. However, after multiple summons, he appeared before the Maharashtra Cyber Police on March 24 in Navi Mumbai.

During questioning, he apologized for the comments made on his show, assuring authorities that such an incident would not happen again. “I feel deep regret for what I said. It happened in the flow of the show, and I had no intention of saying it. I realise that what I said was wrong,” he stated, admitting the controversy affected his mental health and impacted his tour.

While Ranveer’s remark was originally from OG Crew’s Truth or Drink, a resurfaced video revealed comedian Kanan Gill had asked the same question in 2015. Now, fans wonder if and when Samay will return to YouTube.

Comedian Samay Raina has been facing immense mental pressure after delet0ing all episodes of India’s Got Latent following multiple FIRs filed against him and the show’s makers. YouTuber Shwetabh Gangwar, a close friend of Samay, recently revealed that the comedian is struggling with the controversy.

In a now-deleted video, Shwetabh shared details of a phone call with Samay, stating, “Bhaisahab, toota hua hai vo insaan (He is a broken man). When the controversy first erupted, I could still see the old Samay in him, but when I spoke to him last time, I saw a broken man… depressed, sad, scared,” as reported by Free Press Journal. He further added that he took a social media break because he felt helpless. “I was emotionally drained. I couldn’t see my friend like that,” he said.

Samay, currently in Canada for live shows, has sought time until March 17 to return to India and record his official statement. During a recent performance, he joked about the controversy, as shared by a fan, Shubham Dutta, on Facebook. “Thanks for paying my lawyer’s fees,” Samay quipped to the audience. He also referenced Ranveer Allahbadia, saying, “Iss show pe bahut mauka ayega, jahan aapko lag sakta hai ki main bahut funny kuch bol sakta hoon, par tab BeerBiceps ko yaad kar lena bhai.”

Meanwhile, during a Supreme Court hearing on March 2, Justice Kant addressed remarks made by Samay during his Canada show without naming him. “These youngsters are being overly smart. They think we are probably an outdated generation. One of them has gone to Canada and spoken there. They don’t know the jurisdiction this Court enjoys and what can be done. We don’t want to take action because they are young; we understand,” he remarked, as per Live Law.

  • He shouted, “Free Samay Raina,” during a concert.
  • His support drew loud cheers from the audience.

Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia have been at the center of controversy after the YouTuber made a disgusting remark about parents on India’s Got Latent. While many celebrities criticized them, others have shown support. Now, a video of Badshah giving a shoutout to Samay during his concert has surfaced online.

Badshah recently performed at Parul University in Vadodara, Gujarat. Towards the end of his concert, he expressed his support for Samay by shouting, “Free Samay Raina,” which drew loud cheers from the audience.

A Reddit user shared the video, sparking mixed reactions. One user commented, “You could have just said ‘I stand with Samay Raina,’ but no worries, maybe next time.” Another questioned, “Free Samay Raina? When was he arrested?”

Others found the gesture exaggerated. “Overdid it, but okay. Second-hand embarrassing ‘free’ lol. Samay isn’t in jail; he’s in the US playing chess,” wrote one user. Another remarked, “Are these guys idiots? Is this issue really that big of a social cause?”

Samay Raina, facing multiple FIRs, later deleted all episodes of the show and stated, “Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle… I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly.”

IGL contestents come forward in defense of Samay Raina amid controversy

Samay Raina
  • Several contestants have come forward in support of Samay Raina.
  • They referred to Samay as their “elder brother.”
  • They expressed gratitude for the platform he provided.

Following the legal proceedings against India’s Got Latent and the removal of all its episodes, several contestants have come forward in support of comedian and host Samay Raina.

Comedians Sharon Verma, Bhavya Shah, and Kushal Bhanushali referred to Samay as their “elder brother” while expressing gratitude for the platform he provided.

Visually impaired comedian Bhavya Shah, who landed a movie role after appearing on the show, defended Samay, stating, “Did IGL cross a line? It definitely pushed the boundary. Be honest: if you were asked to imagine a blind person 6 months ago, you would have pictured a singer on the train with a begging bowl… Latent was the first time people saw something different: disabled people being goofy and Bakchod and normal. IGL was the platform. Samay was the gentleman. Remember that.”

Sharon Verma echoed similar sentiments, writing, “IGL gave me so much man. It was the reason I could actually pursue this dream of doing comedy… Samay’s genuinely been a big brother to us.”

Kushal Bhanushali also thanked Samay, posting, “IGL was my big bang. Thank you, Samay Bhaiya.”

On Wednesday, Samay Raina responded to the backlash, stating, “Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all India’s Got Latent videos from my channel… I will fully cooperate with all agencies.”

The controversy arose after Ranveer Allahbadia’s remarks in a recent episode sparked outrage, leading to formal complaints and legal action. Ranveer later apologized, admitting, “Comedy is not my forte… it wasn’t cool.”

Samay Raina’s show ‘India’s Got Latent’ faces legal trouble over controversial remarks

India’s Got Latent
  • India’s Got Latent has landed in legal trouble.
  • A contestant, Jessy Nabam, made controversial remarks.
  • Her remarks led to widespread outrage among Arunachal Pradesh.

The reality show India’s Got Latent, hosted by comedian Samay Raina, has landed in legal trouble following controversial remarks made by contestant Jessy Nabam from Arunachal Pradesh. The issue arose during a members-only episode when Raina asked Jessy whether she had ever eaten dog meat.

In response, Jessy stated, “The people of Arunachal Pradesh consume it, though I have never tasted it myself.” She further added, “I know because my friends eat it. They even eat their pets at times,” which sparked an immediate reaction from the panel. While Raina appeared visibly shocked, comedian Balraj Singh Ghai questioned the validity of her claim. However, Jessy stood by her statement.

Her remarks have led to widespread outrage, particularly among the indigenous communities of Arunachal Pradesh. Following the controversy, an FIR was filed against Jessy Nabam by Armaan Ram Welly Bakha, a resident of Arunachal Pradesh. The complaint, lodged at the Itanagar Police Station on January 31, 2025, accuses Jessy of making derogatory remarks about the state’s indigenous people.

The complainant has urged authorities to take swift action, stating that such comments perpetuate harmful stereotypes and should not be repeated in the future.
