Lauren Gottlieb, an American dancer who was a runner-up in the sixth season of ‘Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa,’ is excited to perform on the song ‘Naatu Naatu,’ which has been nominated for an Academy Award as the lead female dancer in 2023.

Talking about the opportunity, Lauren shared: “I feel so grateful to have been given the opportunity to represent India on such a global platform. Oscars are one of the biggest stages in the world and for India to be represented in such a big way and get nominated is incredible.”

Lauren Gottlieb insisted that she and her choreographers Napoleon and Tabitha D’umo are working hard to achieve the perfect balance between the crispness of the western stage and the freedom of India’s street style.

She added, “Before India ever happened for me, I had the opportunity to assist Napoleon and Tabitha on big production dance jobs in Hollywood. So it’s a huge homecoming moment for us. It’s been an incredible week sharing my knowledge of Indian dance and my experiences living in India with the entire cast.”

She continued, “I’ve been helping fine-tune the steps and I even convinced NappyTabs to have the two lead male dancers lip-sync the song. Earlier they thought it would be too difficult, but I said it’s Bollywood, so the lip-syncing has to be done.”

Lauren Gottlieb also shared how she trained the other dancers, “I have shown them Ranveer Singh and Allu Arjun‘s songs to get them to know the essence of Bollywood music. Bollywood is performed much larger than how we dance in the West. I even taught everyone how to do namaste and bow their heads after the performance. It makes me emotional knowing in just two days I will get to perform ‘Naatu Naatu’ on one of the most prestigious stages in the world.”

One of the most memorable moments from the Oscars 2022 was Smith slapping comedian Chris Rock in the face after the latter made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s baldness. Despite the fact that the infamous incident occurred a year ago, discussions and jokes about it have never stopped.

The Oscars 2023 preparations are currently underway, and host Jimmy Kimmel is keeping everyone up to date. The upcoming Oscars ceremony will be the host’s third. In a recent video, Kimmel stood outside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, discussing the decision to change the carpet’s colour. Kimmel discussed the ongoing debate over whether there will be any trouble at the Oscars this year, and expressed his hope that there will be none.

He further took a dig at Will Smith’s slap gate incident and joked the champagne colour signifies the award show will not have any bloodshed. Jimmy Kimmel said, “But if there is, I think the decision to go with a champagne carpet rather than a red carpet shows how confident we are that no blood will be shed.” He added how such a thing can only happen in Hollywood and said, “I’ve never really done play-by-play for carpeting before.”

While there are several theories about the Oscars 2023 carpet’s colour change, it appears to be a creative change. Lisa Love and Met Gala creative director Raul Avila advised on the decision and ensured that the carpet covered the entire floor. Furthermore, Love stated that they wanted to change the show from a day event to a night event.

Pakistani community mark Quaid Day in Riyadh

The Pakistani community honored the birthday of the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The event was held by Khayyam Akbar, the Minister and Deputy Head of Mission of Pakistan in the Kingdom, and attended by a big audience of Riyadh’s Pakistani community members at Al Hayat restaurant banquette hall east of Riyadh.

The event began with a drama about the hardship of Pakistanis since their independence until today. It emphasized that the principle of unity, faith, and discipline upon which leader Jinnah founded his idea for the founding of Pakistan should be the solution to the country’s current issues.

The play was followed by a speech by the Pakistani diplomat, Akbar. “Quaid-e-Azam, Jinnah, from nowhere, and in a most difficult situation, not only managed to bring the Muslims of the subcontinent together but also succeeded in making sure that a separate homeland for them became a reality,” he said.

“We should be always thankful for this and work as a nation to continue our efforts without having any feeling of hopelessness toward the challenges facing us today,” he added.

Akbar urged the 1.5 million Pakistanis living in the Kingdom to serve as ambassadors for their country and work diligently alongside their Saudi neighbors. He asked them to continue contributing to the Kingdom’s progress.

Abdul Malik Mujahid, an Islamic scholar and the operation manager of Riyadh-based Darussalam Publishers, which translated the Holy Qur’an into around 25 languages, provided data on Jinnah’s life and described him as a man of action rather than talk.

Following the talks, a short film about Pakistan’s primary difficulties, such as unmanned drone attacks on civilians, poverty, floods, religious fervor, sectarian bloodshed, political rivalry, and corruption, was presented.

The film also showed clips of some Pakistani leaders addressing the public and concluded by suggesting that the former cricket giant, Imran Khan, the founder and leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, could be the ideal leader at present to lead Pakistan in the footsteps of the Quaid.

Fawad Choudhary, President ISS, started his address by questioning the audience whether the Pakistani people were justifying what Pakistan was made for, in following the footsteps of the founder of the nation and exemplifying his principle of unity, faith, and discipline.

He said the people are directly responsible for what is happening in Pakistan in terms of corruption and injustice, stressed the importance of rising up, and stop compromising on the corruption of the leaders.

Choudhary appealed to the Pakistanis working in the Kingdom to contribute more to building the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a fortress of Islam, a cause to that leader Jinnah devoted himself.

The star claimed that in the past, getting married was the “greatest taboo” for female actors. She claimed that is now changing, though. The actor also discussed how, as a working mother, she takes decisions by declining offers when she does not want to leave her children alone.
In 2012, Kareena Kapoor wed Saif Ali Khan, who had previously been wed to star Amrita Singh. In 2016, Taimur Ali Khan was born into their family, and in 2021, Jehangir Ali Khan was born. Kareena recounted how, at one point, marriage was seen as the end of a female actor’s career in a recent interview.

When asked if ageism in Bollywood was finally changing, Kareena responded, “I think so,” to Harper’s Bazaar India. You must be proud of your age. Today’s women are more courageous. The biggest taboo for female actors was to get married, but nowadays, your marital status doesn’t matter for your job. Filmmakers are increasingly willing to take chances, work on unconventional scripts, and give new people a chance. It all comes down to having and projecting confidence in the end.

Kareena also discussed finding “work-life balance” while being a working mother. She declared, “I don’t think there is a formula or a secret to establishing work-life balance. Anything you choose to do or not do is entirely up to you. He had revealed, “[Marvel Studios] came to me at a certain time and, when I do something, I wanna do it right. If I commit to something, it has to be done in a way that I know it’s gonna be something special. And as it was lining up, it just didn’t feel to me like it was gonna work. I need to be able to make decisions and make the film as great as it can be, it just didn’t go down that road that way.”

Bank of England intends to liquidate Silicon Valley Bank’s UK subsidiary

The Bank of England announced on Friday that it was seeking a court order to put Silicon Valley Bank UK Limited into insolvency, following the takeover of its parent firm, SVB Financial Group (SIVB.O), by US regulators earlier in the day.

“SVB UK has a limited presence in the UK and no critical functions supporting the financial system. In the interim, the firm will stop making payments or accepting deposits,” the BoE said.

Certain depositors in the United Kingdom are eligible for up to 85,000 pounds ($102,000) in compensation for lost deposits through insolvency proceedings for banks or 170,000 pounds for joint accounts.

Failures are uncommon

Other assets and liabilities would be managed by the bank’s liquidators, and any monies recovered would be distributed to creditors, according to the Bank of England.

Bank failures are uncommon in the United Kingdom, with only two institutions having gone through the BoE’s resolution procedures since 2009.

SVB’s British subsidiary had requested 1.8 billion pounds of liquidity from the Bank of England through its discount window facility, which provides emergency lending to banks with acceptable collateral.

Earlier on Friday, Silicon Valley Bank UK said that it was a separate organization with an independent board of directors, apart from the parent company and its subsidiaries.

The parent SVB was taken over by US banking regulators earlier on Friday in an effort to protect depositors after the greatest bank failure since the financial crisis caused the global banking sector to lose billions in market value.

The SVB stock crash, which began on Thursday, has spread to other US and European banks. US banks have lost more than $100 billion in stock market value in the last two days, while European banks have lost another $50 billion.
