Hansal Mehta
  • Hansal Mehta is renowned for his exceptional storytelling and talent-spotting prowess.
  • He has established an illustrious career spanning 23 years.
  • Hansal Mehta shed light on his collaboration with the actress, offering effusive praise for her craft.

Hansal Mehta, renowned for his exceptional storytelling and talent-spotting prowess, has established an illustrious career spanning 23 years. Not only has he discovered talents like Rajkummar Rao, but he also propelled Pratik Gandhi to the forefront with the highly acclaimed series Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (2020), showcasing his keen eye for compelling narratives and promising actors.

Generating significant industry buzz, Mehta’s upcoming project—an untitled thriller noir drama featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan—has intensified excitement. Recently, Mehta shed light on his collaboration with the actress, offering effusive praise for her craft.

Known for her mainstream Bollywood roles, Kareena Kapoor Khan impressed Mehta with her acting prowess, despite his usual inclination towards working with emerging talents. In a conversation with Mid-Day, the director discussed his forthcoming thriller and shared his experience of working with the versatile actress. The convergence of their distinct genres—Mehta’s raw and gripping storytelling with Kareena’s mainstream Bollywood repertoire—promises an intriguing cinematic experience.

Reflecting on this contrast, Mehta affirmed, “One thing I can say is you will witness a new Kareena in the film. We had a fantastic time shooting the movie. With her, it’s the same kind of chemistry that I share with Rajkummar, Pratik, Mohammed Zeeshan [Ayyub], and Karishma [Tanna].”

Mehta expressed his delight at collaborating with Kareena Kapoor, describing it as an absolute joy and commending her acting abilities. Their new venture revolves around a cop drama primarily set in London, adding an international flavor to their collaboration.

While discussing his recent successes, including the acclaimed drama series Scam on Netflix and his multi-series contract with the platform, Mehta acknowledged the added security it brings.

He expressed, “It gives me an additional blanket of security. I now know that the stories I want to tell have a space where they will be embraced wholeheartedly. I applied many learnings from Scam 1992 to Scoop. One of them is that if you tell authentic Indian stories in an honest and engaging manner while trusting the audience’s intelligence, they can be effectively conveyed.”

Scoop, a critically acclaimed crime drama helmed by Hansal Mehta, features Karishma Tanna, Harman Baweja, and Zeeshan Ayyub in pivotal roles. Streaming on Netflix, the Hindi drama series revolves around the high-profile court case of journalist Jigna Vora, accused of the murder of mid-day reporter Jyotirmoy Dey in June 2011.

Rajkummar Rao is praised by Hansal Mehta in Bheed

Hansal Mehta
  • Director Hansal Mehta took to Twitter and shared his review of Bheed.
  • The upcoming film starring Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar which is slated for release on March 24.
  • The film, which is directed by Anubhav Sinha, revolves around the struggles of migrant workers in India during the COVID-19.

Chief Hansal Mehta took to Twitter and shared his audit of Bheed, the impending film featuring Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar which is scheduled for discharge on Walk 24. The struggle of migrant workers in India during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 is the subject of the film, which is directed by Anubhav Sinha. The situation is compared to that of the Partition of India in 1947. “One of the best ensembles since Maqbool,” Hansal said of the film and the cast’s performances.

The National Award-winning director tweeted the movie poster and wrote, “#” to share his brief review on Twitter. Bheed in theaters tomorrow. In addition to being a significant historical document, this movie is dramatic and engaging, featuring one of the best ensembles since Maqbool. @RajkummarRao does a fantastic job of portraying a conflicted “in-charge.” @anubhavsinha performs admirably. “Pankajji (Pankaj Kapur), Virubhai (Veerendra Saxena), Ashutosh Rana, Aditya Shrivastava, Bhumi, and the entire cast put together by @CastingChhabra is terrific,” he added in the comments section. Aditi Subedi is particularly heartbreaking. Avoid missing #Bheed.”

When the movie’s official trailer was released earlier this month, it got a lot of attention. After cutting out a speech by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a line that made reference to the Partition, the trailer was later taken down and re-released to mixed reviews. During an interview, Anubhav had stated, “Of course, these changes are obvious.” The aforementioned modifications are accurate, and the trailer was unavailable for two days. However, the filmmaker is responsible for this reason. I would prefer not to disturb the sacredness of the film.

When Sumit Kadel, a film business analyst, referred to the movie as “absolutely ridiculous,” Hansal had also spoken out in support of the production. “So you’ve seen the movie, I suppose,” he said. Hansal also wrote, “Let’s hear the political ideology you espouse in your tweet sir,” in response to a separate tweet. My opinion is in favor of free speech and expression. I believe in inclusivity and am open to criticism and discussion.”

Benaras Mediaworks, owned by Anubhav, produces Bheed, which was primarily shot in Lucknow. Dia Mirza, Kritika Kamra, Virendra Saxena, Aditya Srivastava, and Karan Pandit are also featured in Bheed.

Kareena Kapoor claims that the biggest taboo for female actors is getting married

Kareena Kapoor
  • Kareena Kapoor opened up about ageism in Bollywood.
  • How marriage was once seen as the end of a female actor’s career.
  • Kareena Kapoor married Saif Ali Khan, who was earlier married to actor Amrita Singh, in 2012.

Kareena Kapoor said ‘you have to wear your age proudly’, when questioned about ageism in Bollywood in a recent interview. The star claimed that in the past, getting married was the “greatest taboo” for female actors. She claimed that is now changing, though. The actor also discussed how, as a working mother, she takes decisions by declining offers when she does not want to leave her children alone.
In 2012, Kareena Kapoor wed Saif Ali Khan, who had previously been wed to star Amrita Singh. In 2016, Taimur Ali Khan was born into their family, and in 2021, Jehangir Ali Khan was born. Kareena recounted how, at one point, marriage was seen as the end of a female actor’s career in a recent interview.

When asked if ageism in Bollywood was finally changing, Kareena responded, “I think so,” to Harper’s Bazaar India. You must be proud of your age. Today’s women are more courageous. The biggest taboo for female actors was to get married, but nowadays, your marital status doesn’t matter for your job. Filmmakers are increasingly willing to take chances, work on unconventional scripts, and give new people a chance. It all comes down to having and projecting confidence in the end.

Kareena also discussed finding “work-life balance” while being a working mother. She declared, “I don’t think there is a formula or a secret to establishing work-life balance. Anything you choose to do or not do is entirely up to you. Because I don’t feel like leaving my kids alone or because I don’t want to be seen at an awards presentation, I want to be free to say no to the things that I don’t want to do. I want the option to pick because I prefer to relax at home with my hubby while watching a movie or sipping wine. One of the biggest adjustments I’ve personally undergone is that. I must make a decision.

In addition to numerous other movies, Kareena has been in 3 Idiots (2009), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), and Jab We Met (2007). She is currently working on her next project, The Crew. Rhea Kapoor supports the movie, which also stars Tabu and Kriti Sanon. Hansal Mehta’s forthcoming film is one of Kareena’s upcoming ventures. Sujoy Ghosh’s Devotion of Suspect X, starring Kareena and making her OTT debut, is also anticipated to release this year. It is an adaptation of Keigo Higashino’s same-titled novel, written in Japanese. In a Netflix project, Vijay Varma and Jaideep Ahlawat also star.

Online streaming of Hansal Mehta’s film Faraaz is prohibited in Bangladesh

Hansal Mehta
  • Hansal Mehta’s Faraaz has been banned in Bangladesh due to its certification.
  • A ban has been imposed on online streaming of the film in Bangladesh.
  • There is reportedly no ban, as yet, on the theatrical release of the film because their censor board.

Faraaz, a recent film by Hansal Mehta, had a limited release earlier this month. Bangladesh has now banned the online streaming of the movie. According to reports, there is currently no ban on the movie’s theatrical release because their censor board has not yet made a determination regarding the movie’s certification.

In response to a writ petition, the Bangladesh High Court’s panel of justices Md. Khasruzzaman and Md. Iqbal Kabir issued the order on Monday, according to an AIR report on Tuesday. The petition was submitted by one Ruba Ahmad, the mother of Abinta Kabir, who died in the 2016 Holy Artisan terrorist incident.

The movie is based on the terror incident that took place in Dhaka’s bakery in July 2016 and resulted in the deaths of 29 people. As soon as the Faraaz trailer surfaced online, Ruba reportedly filed a lawsuit to prevent the movie’s release in Bangladesh on the grounds that it portrays Abinta’s character “in a disparaging manner,” according to the AIR report. She allegedly added in her plea that Bangladesh’s law enforcement institutions were also painted in a negative light, which could harm the country’s prestige.

Zahan Kapoor portrays Faraaz Hossain, one of the victims, in the February 3 release Faraaz. Zahan is Shashi Kapoor, the late actorgrandson. ,’s “A single film has been four years in the making, while the two-hour feature was made in just 23 days. A more rewarding and worthwhile experience than making my debut movie is beyond my wildest dreams. Any outcome for the movie is a bonus. The experience of working with people who are as enthusiastic as I am and who want to give their all to bring a tale to life is one that I couldn’t have imagined being any better, Zahan had said to PTI prior to the movie’s release.

Aditya Rawal, a son of Paresh Rawal, plays the terrorist Nibras in Faraaz. In a previous interview with PTI, Aditya had discussed the movie and said that if a director like Hansal gives a project, actors can only seize the chance, appreciate the responsibility, and give it their all. Moreover, he had stated, “For me, the biggest issue was how do you, as an actor, trust what this character is saying and doing, because it is far from me, my reality, and my worldview.”

Review of the film Faraaz: a heartbreaking story of love and loss

  • Hansal Mehta’s Faraaz is based on the 2016 Dhaka terror attack.
  • A gut-wrenching tale coupled with some stellar performances, this film hits hard.
  • The film depicts the bigotry the Bangladeshi system has been fighting with.

Faraaz is not an easy movie to see, and making it couldn’t have been simple either. The 2016 Dhaka terror assault, in which five armed young men invaded the Holey Artisan Bakery and killed up to 20 people, the majority of whom were foreigners, and held a number of others hostage, predominantly Bangladeshi Muslims, is the inspiration for this Hansal Mehta film. The racism that the system has been battling for a long time is shown in the movie. Faraaz is a heartbreaking story with some outstanding performances. It contains some graphic scenes and touches on serious issues.

Faraaz tells the tale of Faraaz Ayaaz Hossain (Zahan Kapoor, making his acting debut), who put on a brave face and opposed hatred without caving in to terrorist demands. He was shot dead with his two female pals because he wouldn’t leave them during the attack. You feel a knot in your throat as you recall the anguish and fear from the sights that have been replicated inside the cafe. We learn that Faraaz and Nibris (debutant Aditya Rawal) went to college together and even participated in a friendly football game through a series of dialogues. That’s when you realize how much brainwashing is going on and how these men are coerced into engaging in bloodshed and religious wars without feeling guilty about it.

The character Faraaz Ayaaz Hossain is portrayed by Zahan Kapoor in the film Faraaz. He put up a bold front and resisted hatred without giving in to terrorist demands. He refused to leave them during the attack, therefore he and his two female friends were both shot to death. You recollect the agony and terror from the replicas of the sights inside the cafe, and a knot forms in your throat. Through a series of discussions, we find out that Faraaz and Nibris (debutant Aditya Rawal) attended college together and even took part in a friendly football game. When you realize how much indoctrination is taking place and how these men are being forced to participate in violence and religious battles without feeling bad about it, it becomes clear how widespread it is.

The excellent performances make Faraaz worth seeing in addition to other factors. Juhi Babbar Soni, who plays Faraaz’s mother, does a great job portraying a powerless mom who will do anything to protect her kid. She pulls all the strings because she comes from a powerful and influential family, but when terror strikes, it’s all for nothing. Herself imparts a sense of peace to all the craziness surrounding her, even in instances where she becomes anxious. Zahan Kapoor, the late legendary actor Shashi Kapoor’s grandson, makes his acting debut as Faraaz. He gives a restrained performance and emotes effectively, whether it is through violence, terror, or a serene posture. the opening moment where Faraaz discusses going overseas for higher education with his mother and sibling Basically, he analyzes and develops his character. I really wanted to know more about Faraaz and the ideals he adhered to in the movie.

While Zahan has a respectable start, Aditya Rawal’s harsh portrayal of the youth who has been brainwashed as the adversary will leave you in amazement. He does a powerful act. His role is much more complex than anyone else’s in the movie, whether it be in the way he delivers words, the assurance he projects while portraying a terrorist, or his moments of compassion and inner pain. All the other youngsters who portray terrorists are rookie actors who have nailed the subtleties of their performances.

Despite everything, Musafir Ko Ghar Hi Jaana Hai’s touching, soulful songs continue to be the film Faraaz’s standout feature. It was written and composed by Sameer Rahat, and it instills hope while also making you understand the anguish of the families who lost their loved ones.

Hansal Mehta on the decline of liberal discourse and his work Faraaz

Hansal Mehta
  • Hansal Mehta’s latest film Faraaz looks at the real-life events behind a terrorist attack in a Bangladeshi café.
  • The film, starring Aditya Rawal and introducing Zahaan Kapoor.
  • Follows a group of youngsters that turn violent in the name of religion.

Faraaz, Hansal Mehta’s most recent film, examines the actual circumstances surrounding a terrorist assault in a Bangladeshi café in 2016. Aditya Rawal plays the lead role in the movie, which also features Zahaan Kapoor and depicts a group of young people who become violent for religious reasons. The drama also introduces Sachin Lalwani, Jatin Sareen, Ninad Bhatt, Harshal Pawar, Reshham Sahaani, and Abhirami Bose. Faraaz made its international premiere at the BFI London Film Festival in October 2022 and will be distributed in theaters on February 3.

The movie stars newbie Zahaan as Faraaz Ayaaz Hossain, a young Muslim who refuses to leave his pals when the café is taken hostage by militants. Zahaan is the grandson of actor Shashi Kapoor and filmmaker Ramesh Sippy. After the attack, the young guy received the Mother Teresa Memorial International Award. A companion piece to his previous films Shahid (2012) and Omerta (2017), which also examined terrorism and religion, Hansal referred to his most recent work as such.

In an interview , the director responded as follows when asked if his movie was a reaction to the declining liberal discourse: “It is crucial to understand that rabid voices have replaced the liberal voices in the debate over good Muslims and bad Muslims as a result of the withdrawal of the former. The people who supported Shahid have dwindled in number as skepticism and fear have gradually taken hold.”

Added he, “I wanted to have that conversation since I come from a liberal environment rather than avoiding it. Faraaz does not dispute with the concerns when the terror group’s head asks him why he does not see what is occurring in Palestine or what the US is doing in West Asia. He claims that the world is filled with many problems, but he queries whether this is the solution.”

Kareena Kapoor will play a detective and mother in Hansal‘s upcoming movie, provisionally titled The Buckingham Murders, similar to Kate Winselt in the online series Mare of Easttown. Additionally, he is the director of the Netflix original series Scoop, which stars Karishma Tanna as crime reporter Jigna Vora who was imprisoned for another journalist.
