FM

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the French Ambassador to Pakistan has been summoned to the foreign office (FO) to lodge protest over anti-Islam campaign.

In a statement on Monday, Shah Mahmood has urged the United Nations (UN) to take notice and action against the hate based narrative against Islam.

He said there is resentment in the world over the blasphemous caricatures.

He said irresponsible statement of the French President has added fuel to the fire. He said nobody has the right to hurt the sentiments of millions of Muslims under the garb of freedom of expression.

The Foreign Minister said the seeds of hate that are being cultivated today will polarize the society and have serious consequences.

Such hatred will trigger violent attitudes and further divide societies, the Shah Mahmood said.

On the instructions of the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister said a comprehensive resolution will be presented at the next meeting of the OIC foreign ministers, proposing to observe 15th March as the international day against Islamophobia.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Imran Khan has written a letter to the CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg, asking him to place a similar ban on Islamophobic and hate triggering content against Islam.

“I am writing to draw your attention to the growing Islamophobia that is encouraging hate, extremism and violence across the world and especially through the use of social media platforms including Facebook,” read the beginning of the letter.

Imran Khan said the message of hate must be banned in total.

He said nor should the world have to wait for a pogrom against Muslims, which is going on in countries like India and in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, to be completed before Islamophobia is banned.

The Prime Minister said unfortunately, in some states, Muslims are being denied their citizenship rights and their democratic personal choices from dress to worship.

“This in itself is reflective of prejudice and bias that will encourage further radicalization,” the premier concluded.

BRT bus service develops fault a day after resuming its operations

BRT Peshawar

Only a day after the resumption of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service, the bus plying on the corridor broke down on Sunday and the passengers travelling in it have to be shifted to another one.

The BRT Peshawar resumed its service after a month-long pause following frequent fire incidents in the buses.

The service was suspended in mid-September due to rising incidents of fire eruption on the buses. The company experts were then asked by the provincial government to conduct an audit of the buses and after a review.

According to the spokesperson of Trans Peshawar, the buses will be operational from 6am to 10pm. The vehicles will also travel on express routes.

A special route has been introduced from the Khyber Market to Hayatabad’s mall, he said, pointing out that from October 25, three direct routes from Hayatabad will become operational as well.

“Wearing masks has been declared mandatory for all passengers,” the spokesperson emphasized. “Special seats have been assigned for women, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.”

Other passengers will not be allowed to use these seats. Male passengers have been warned against crowding the buses unnecessarily.

Why Was BRT Service Suspended?

The BRT service suspended after the fifth incident of fire in a bus on September 16. It had alarmed the government and the commuters and prompted TransPeshawar to suspend the service.

However, the service launched on August 13 amid criticism over the delay in its completion and the high cost of the flagship project of the PTI government.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had inaugurated the BRT bus service and regarded it as one of the flagship projects of the PTI government.

The track is 27 kilometres long and at least 128 buses will run on it.
