Punjab government shuts down free WiFi project

The government which claims to advance in technology has started blocking the way for it as the Buzdar government abolished free internet facility in Punjab.

The provincial government shuts down the Punjab WiFi project due to heavy annual subsidies.

Thousands of students, research scholars, journalists and citizens of educational institutions across the province are now deprived of free WiFi. Resources

It is pertinent to mention here that in the previous period, Punjab WiFi project was launched to provide free Punjab Wi-Fi facility at 200 places in the province.

According to the details provided by the sources, the project was costing Rs. 19.5 million annually.

Under the project, free Wi-Fi was provided to Punjab’s large libraries, colleges, educational institutions and other important government places, including parks and press clubs.

Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Bazdar had contracted the coronavirus after which he has isolated himself.

Azhar Mashwani, the chief minister’s focal person for digital media, tweeted on the social networking site, “Usman Buzdar has tested positive for COVID-19.

He had mild symptoms (Fever and Flu) since last night and in self-isolation as per the advice of Doctors. Request for prayers for early recovery.”

Over the ongoing Opposition democratic rallies, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar said that nation will never forgive those elements who are raising allegations against the state institutions.

In a statement, CM Usman Buzdar said that a vicious conspiracy is being hatched to weaken Pakistan by making national institutions controversial.

He said that state institutions are our pride and we will foil every conspiracy against them.

He said that those who are targeting the institutions will not succeed in their nefarious designs. “PDM is working on anti-state agenda.”

The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has given a new identity to Southern Punjab.

Earlier, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz lashed out at the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), saying “PDM is the third part of the axis of evil with India and Israel against Pakistan”.

He had also slammed opposition leaders for attacking the country’s integrity and institutions.

The federal minister had also condemned the slogans raised by Owais Noorani regarding Balochistan during the PDM Jalsa held in Quetta.

On Sunday, The JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman at the PDM Quetta Jalsa expressed his views over the blasphemy incident that happened in France.

“France and Denmark have committed a major crime. We send a message to France and Denmark that we condemn the insulting sketches.”

He went on to warn the countries by saying, “Stop such unholy actions immediately. When such unholy actions occur, remember that there will be a reaction.”

The JUI-F leader also condemned the arrest of Captain Safdar in Karachi after the PDM jalsa there.

“I call the incident with Maryam and Safdar a moral bankruptcy. A guest was arrested at the airport, we also condemn it.”
