Ali Fazal spills the beans on film adaptation of ‘Mirzapur’

The excitement surrounding the film adaptation of Mirzapur continues to grow, and actor Ali Fazal has fueled the anticipation with new details.

In a recent roundtable discussion with The Hollywood Reporter India, Ali, who plays Guddu Pandit in the hit web series, shared insights into the upcoming project. While he didn’t confirm if the film is a prequel, he hinted at intriguing possibilities, saying, “It has to be back in time because there are like some dead people walking.”

When asked if the film would be a Mirzapur prequel, Ali responded, “You will find out. But we are really excited to bring it to the theatres. Peaky Blinders also did that. It wasn’t like a one-off or an odd choice of move.” The film, created by Puneet Krishna and directed by Gurmmeet Singh, is set for release in 2026.

The movie will reunite the original cast, including Pankaj Tripathi (Kaleen Bhaiya), Ali Fazal (Guddu Pandit), and Divyenndu (Munna), along with Abhishek Banerjee, who plays the compounder. The film will first hit theaters before streaming on Prime Video India. Produced by Excel Entertainment, it follows the success of the Mirzapur series, which released its first season in 2018, the second in 2020, and the third in 2024.

She revealed that his mother has not accepted her.

Pankaj Tripathi, known for his role as Kaleen Bhaiya in Mirzapur, has frequently shared his deep bond with his wife, Mridula Tripathi, in various interviews. In a recent interview, Pankaj Tripathi’s wife opened up about the challenges she faces in her marriage, particularly regarding acceptance from Pankaj’s family. She revealed that cultural reasons have caused his mother not to accept her.

Mridula explained, “It’s still not acceptable. We aren’t blood relatives, but in our culture, it is unacceptable for a woman to be married into a family of a lower stature, if another woman has already been married into a family of a higher stature. And because my sister-in-law had been married above her station into my family, I couldn’t be married into their family, which was considered of a lower stature.”

She added, “My mother-in-law hasn’t accepted me to this day, for the reasons I mentioned earlier. She is still upset about this intermingling. But what can we do about it now?”

Pankaj, during his appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati, reflected on his struggles before fame, stating, “I came to Mumbai in 2004 and Gangs of Wasseypur happened in 2012. For eight years, no one knew what I was doing. I did not have to sleep at Andheri station during my days of struggle only because of her.”

Pankaj and Mridula met at a wedding in 1993 and got married on January 15, 2004. They moved to Mumbai and welcomed their daughter, Aashi Tripathi, in 2006. Pankaj will soon appear in Anurag Basu’s Metro In Dino, alongside a star-studded cast.

Mirzapur & Fukrey Makers Team Up For Upcoming Thriller ‘Paan Parda Zarda’

Paan Parda Zarda, yet another promising web project, has just been unveiled. Mona Singh, Tanvi Azmi, Tanya Maniktala, Priyanshu Painyuli, Rajesh Tailang, Manu Rishi, and Sushant Singh are just a few of the series’ impressive ensemble cast members. The suspenseful series is set against the backdrop of Central India’s illicit opium trade.

The series looks to be a potent source of entertainment with its riveting tale of shifting allegiances and battle lines established between family and loved ones. Jio Studios and Reliance Entertainment are supporting the action-packed mafia drama Paan Parda Zarda. Together with Reliance Entertainment and Dreamer and Doers Co., the outstanding series will be planned and created.

Jyoti Deshpande and Namit Sharma collaborated to produce the show. On Jio Studios’ official social media website, an update was posted as the show began production. “We are thrilled to announce, Jio Studios & Reliance Entertainment bring together top creative talent for our next magnum opus – web series Paan Parda Zarda set against the world of illegal opium smuggling in Central India. The show goes on the floor today so stay tuned as the thrilling ride is about to begin.”

This series will encompass a great creative team of makers including ace directors Gurmmeet Singh (Mirzapur and Inside Edge) and Shilpi Dasgupta along with Mrighdeep Singh Lamba (Fukrey franchise), Suparn S Varma (Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hain, Family Man and Rana Naidu) and talented writer duo Hussain Dalal and Abbas Dalal (Bambai Meri Jaan, Farzi, Brahmastra), Radhika Anand and Vibha Singh. The epic series will take place at prominent sites around Central India.

Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, best known for the Fukrey series, said in a release, “Paan Parda Zarda is a labor of love that has been created after years of research and writing prep.” The audience will enjoy witnessing the drama unfold in a previously unknown setting. This is a wonderful occasion for Gurmmeet Singh, Shilpi Dasgupta, and me since telling this narrative to an audience has long been a goal of ours.”

“We are excited about embarking on a brand-new journey with Paan Parda Zarda in collaboration with Jio Studios,” said series co-director Gurmmeet Singh. “Cinema has been reduced to vulgar business of numbers”, Isha Talwar

Isha Talwar recently took to her Instagram account to share the IMDB ratings of recently released Indian films, urging the “real writers to stand up” and address the situation. According to the actor, the industry’s suffering is a consequence of the prevailing obsession with box office figures.

“Cinema has been reduced to a vulgar business of numbers. Do you remember having discussion about the box office performance or the first week collection during the 1990s. No!. But now it’s all about algorithm…ki kis picture ne kitna business kara. People are criticising the content and still they are reaching ₹500 crore mark, which I don’t understand how,” she says urging makers to “at least see what you are making”.

She goes on to elaborate that not providing opportunities to new talents contributes to the recycling of the same old content. “We have rendered the industry inaccessible for newcomers. Breaking into it is nearly impossible for emerging talents. The narratives circulating in the market have instilled so much fear in potential talent that they hesitate to step towards the industry,” she reveals. Here, the 35-year-old poses a question, “But if we don’t welcome fresh talent, how can our output meet the standards?”

Isha Talwar also highlights that the industry doesn’t function based on merit alone; individuals receive opportunities not solely due to their talent, but due to various other factors.

“They don’t recognize your value and aptitude. To be part of a big-budget film, you must be a recognizable face. Without the existence of OTT platforms, would actors like me find work? I’m uncertain. I grappled for a decade without any prospects, until Mirzapur happened. Even today, after projects like Saas Bahu and Flamingo, I continue to audition. All I can assert is that proficiency isn’t sufficient here,” she asserts. Yet, when inquired if her outspokenness about the industry’s issues stems from anger, Talwar clarifies, “No.”

Rather, she expounds, “It stems from a place of concern. It’s not that I lack scripts. I have a substantial workload. I’m engaged in a Punjabi project. I hold immense respect for regional cinema, considering the content we craft for pan India. However, I would appreciate the creation of engaging pan India films. I don’t recall the last time I enjoyed a good Bollywood commercial film. In contrast, I recently watched the Korean movie ‘Past Life,’ and it was so captivating that I would choose to watch it again over a Bollywood film,” Isha Talwar concludes.

The Mirzapur actor verified the rumors by saying that the movie is in production. He stated, “I am confirming that it’s coming. A lot of it is going to be really different. Except for me and Taapsee, there are so many new things. It’s another crazy experience. We had not kept expectations earlier too that it will be so loved, the story, the world around the story. The amount of love we got for the film we thought, he stated.”

He went on to say: “We had left an interesting open ending buffer for a second part and how we can do that and luckily for us the audience responded and in 15 days now I am going to start the shoot for it. Please do go and watch the film.”

In 2021, the romantic-thriller movie attracted the highest Hindi movie viewers on Netflix. Harshvardhan Rane, Aditya Srivastava, Dayashankar Panday, Shivaji Satam, and Alka Kaushal were also included in it. Release day for Haseen Dilruba is July 21, 2021.

Vikrant Massey’s film 12th Fail has just finished filming, in the meantime. According to News18, he would appear in the movie Gaslight alongside Sara Ali Khan, Sector 36, and Deepak Dobriyal.
