Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has called for better planning in Karachi before more rains next year after the current monsoon spell left the majority areas submerged in water and without power supply for nearly four days.

In a tweet on Monday, Chaudhry said, “The problem is that if the rain stops today and the situation returns to normal, we will forget everything and return to our normal life. There will be rains again next year, routine life will come to a standstill and there will be a noise. But we should learn from the situation and plan for the next year so that it does not happen.”

Life virtually stopped in Karachi when day-long heavy rainfall on Thursday caused catastrophic scenes in parts of the city.

The lives and properties of residents in several low-lying areas became survivors of severe danger due to the threat of flooding as the rickety drainage system of the provincial capital has almost collapsed.

Furthermore, the largest city of Sindh, Karachi that is also the economic hub of Pakistan portrayed Venice due to flooded streets and Nullahs. At least 20 people in 3 days have been killed in the rain-related incidents.

The messaging app is, however, working on a separate ringtone apart from your phone’s ringtone.

Today, on August 31, marks the 23rd death anniversary of the Royal Lady Diana, Princess of Wales.

Fans across the world, are honoring the ‘People’s Princess’ and remembering the legacy she left behind.

However, the long-awaited statue to honour Princess Diana will be installed next year on the late royal’s 60th birthday, July 1, 2021.

According to reports, her sons Prince William and Prince Harry issued a rare joint statement announcing that the statue will stand in the garden of their mother’s former home, Kensington Palace, and help people “reflect on her life and legacy.”

The announcement comes just three days before the 23rd anniversary of Diana’s death in 1997.

Plans for the statue were first announced in February 2017, the year of many commemorations of Diana’s life, as it marked 20 years since she died in a car crash in Paris aged 36.

“The statue was commissioned to mark the twentieth anniversary of her death and recognize her positive impact in the UK and around the world,” the palace said in a brief statement.

“The statue will be installed in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace on 1st July 2021, marking The Princess’s 60th birthday,” the statement continues.

“The Princes hope that the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on their mother’s life and her legacy.”

Under the seventh spell of Monsoon, Karachi to receive more rain showers from today (Monday), predicted the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

A statement issued by the PMD said that seventh spell of monsoon rains entered Sindh on Sunday evening which could aggravate existing urban flooding in Lower Sindh.

Under the influence of this system rain and wind-thundershowers, with isolated heavy to light showers, are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Tharparker, Nagarparker, Mirpurkhas, Islam Kot, Umar Kot, Sanghar, Sukkur and Larkana.

Heavy to moderate showers are expected in parts of Karachi today, while the weather will remain cloudy.

On the other hand, PMD has advised all concerned authorities to remain alert during the forecast period.

The Met Office earlier issued a warning of urban flooding in Karachi. However, the chief meteorologist said that the system to effect Karachi is relatively ‘weak’ which may mean isolated light to heavy rains across the city.

The port city was devastated after receiving unprecedented rains since Thursday as many areas are still flooded with rainwater.
