ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Railways Haneef Abbasi has announced to run special trains on Eid-ul-fitar with discounted fares.

Minister for Railways Haneef Abbasi directed the railway authorities to ensure the safety of the lives and property of the passengers and to install surveillance equipment to avoid any accident. Haneef Abbasi says railway revenue will increase and expenses will be reduced.

He said that special trains will be run from Ramadan 25 and will reduce fares on Eid ul Fitar .

Railway Minister Haneef Abbasi said remittances have increased and ministry of Railways in touch with different countries for ML One project of the railway.

It is to be remembered that Haneef Abbasi has recently been included in the federal cabinet and has been given the ministry of Railways three days ago.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways (PR) is planning to launch a high-speed express train between Lahore and Karachi, similar to the Green-Line Express that operates between Islamabad and Karachi via Lahore.

“The primary goal of this new train service is to provide passengers with advanced amenities and an enhanced travel experience,” an official in the Ministry of Railways told.

Currently, the official said the teams from relevant departments are working on preparations for the launch of this modern train, which is expected to begin by the end of January next year.

The official emphasized that Pakistan Railways is focused on improving passenger services, using new technology to locally produce coaches, which will eliminate the need for imports.

Additionally, he said the department is working to enhance food quality and cleanliness to ensure a comfortable and clean environment for passengers.

The Green-Line Express, which was inaugurated in 2015 by the then Prime Minister at Islamabad’s Margalla Railway Station, currently takes about 20 hours to travel from Islamabad to Karachi Cantonment Station, with stops at key locations such as Rawalpindi, Lahore, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Sukkar/Rohri, Hyderabad, and Drigh Road.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Railways (PR) has reduced the fares of all passenger trains and this will effective from September 23, 2024.

Pakistan Railways has announced a 10% reduction in the fares of passenger trains, the reduction in fares will be applied to all passenger trains including air-conditioned.

The announcement also stated that the reduction in passenger train fares will be effective from September 23.

According to the statement released by Pakistan Railways, the fares of passenger trains have been reduced despite a 20 percent increase in salaries and other expenses.

It may be recalled that earlier also the fares of passenger trains were reduced due to the reduction in the prices of petroleum products.

Earlier, the railway department decided to operate 10 passenger trains under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode.

According to Pakistan Railways officials, the first phase of the privatisation will commence soon and 10 trains will be handed over to private operators under the PPP mode.

PR completes 40% restoration work of bridge damaged in Quetta

LAHORE: The Pakistan Railways has successfully completed 40 percent of the restoration work on a bridge damaged by terrorism in Quetta, Balochistan.

Pakistan Railways spokesperson confirmed that ongoing work was being carried out in two shifts under the supervision of Railway Chief Executive Officer Aamir Baloch.

The spokesperson assured that the bridge would be ready for train operations by October 15. He emphasized that the restoration was being managed with the railway’s own resources.

Once security clearance was received, the rail connection between Balochistan and the rest of the country will be immediately restored.
