SC issues show-cause notice to TV channels for airing Vawda’s presser

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) issued a show cause notice to 34 TV channels for airing contemptuous press conferences against the judiciary and sought their response with the signature of the channel owners within 2 weeks.

Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Aqeel Abbasi and Justice Naeem Afghan issued an order to issue a show-cause notice to 34 channels in the Faisal Vawda, Mustafa Kamal contempt of court case.

The order said that the show cause notice should be sent through Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and the channels should submit a response to the show cause notice within 2 weeks.

The response to the show cause notice should be signed by the operational head and channel owners or shareholders.

The court expressed its disappointment and concern over the matter, stating that in today’s age, false information can spread easily and that extra caution is needed.

It is further stated in the order that according to the lawyer Faisal Siddiqui submitted the initial response, the signature of the channel’s reply is not of any channel owner but of the lawyer Faisal Siddiqui.

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Mustafa Kamal has sought an unconditional apology from the Supreme Court in the contempt of court case for his anti-judiciary statement.

MQM Pakistan senior leader Mustafa Kamal has submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court Karachi Registry, in which it has been said that he has unconditionally apologized for his statement regarding the judiciary, especially the press conference on May 16.

“I respect the judges of the Supreme Court from the heart, I cannot imagine defaming the authority and reputation of the judiciary and judges”.

Mustafa Kamal said in the affidavit that he has requested forgiveness from the court and leaves himself at the mercy of the court.

It should be remembered that the Supreme Court had issued notice of contempt of court to Senator Faisal Vawda and Mustafa Kamal for making anti-judiciary statements.

KARACHI: Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar talking to the MQM-P delegation led by Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that he would never allow injustice in the urban areas of the province in terms of development, employment and importance.

“Karachi is my city and other urban areas of the province such as Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and Larkana would be looked after properly”, he assured the delegation.

The MQM-P delegation comprised Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Dr. Farooq Sattar, and Mustafa Kamal. They called on him here at CM and discussed the overall situation, including general elections.

Dr. Khalid Maqbool told Justice (rtd) Maqbool Baqar that they had expressed satisfaction and support when his name was recommended for caretaker chief minister. The CM thanked them and said he would serve everyone irrespective of any consideration.

The delegation raised the issue of urban areas for which he assured them his personal attention to resolve the issue of the urban areas. The CM added that the main job of his government was to support the Election Commission of Pakistan(ECP) in holding free, fair, and transparent elections.

The MQM delegation took up the issue of increasing street crime in the city. The CM said that he has directed the city police to control the street crime by enhancing patrolling, vigilance, and starting operations against the street criminals and drug mafia.

Justice Baqar said that a major reshuffle has been made in the administration, including the police. ‘I am sure the new administration would make a difference,” he said.

ISLAMABAD: A delegation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-P) on Wednesday met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Shraif where they expressed reservations about the attitude of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

The MQM delegation comprised MNA Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Mustafa Kamal, Rauf Siddiqui, Fauzia Hameed, and Sadiq Iftikhar.

During meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif , the economic situation of the country and the rapidly increasing inflation were discussed.

Sources said that Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui expressed reservations regarding the attitude of the Pakistan People’s Party and the non-implementation of the agreement by the federal government.

Apart from this, the progress so far regarding the correctness of constituencies in Sindh was also discussed.

The MQM Liaison Committee has expressed concern over the delay in the agreement and the non-acceptance of demands.

In this regard, the sources have said that MQM Pakistan has decided to announce the action plan if the notification of additional Union Councils (UCs) is not issued and they said that few administrative posts cannot be a substitute for the demands of MQM.

According to the sources, the MQM is considering leaving the positions for acceptance of their genuine demands.
