JSMU awards degrees to more than 500 graduates

KARACHI: Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) held its fifth convocation at a renowned hotel in Karachi, where degrees were awarded to more than 500 successful graduates.

Twenty seven medals were awarded to the best graduates and position holders of batch 2022-2023, out of whom female students secured 25 medals. Urooj Fatima, MBBS student, received three medals for her exceptional performance.

After distributing medals to the position holders, Governor Kamran Khan Tessori, the Chancellor and chief guest of the Convocation, congratulated the graduating students and expressed appreciation for the crucial role played by parents and teachers in their achievements.

He praised JSMU as a reputable medical university, offering accessible opportunities for youth to obtain quality education at an affordable cost.

He added, ‘Nursing is an integral part of the healthcare system, playing a vital role in patient care, health promotion, and disease prevention. The emergence of the first batch of nursing graduates underscores JSMU’s dedication to meeting the evolving demands of the healthcare sector.’

He urged the graduates to pledge allegiance to their country and appealed them to remain in Pakistan, emphasizing the critical need for their service to address the shortage of doctors and contribute to fulfilling the healthcare needs of the nation.

As the Chancellor, he expressed hope that efforts to excel in the field of medicine and the inculcation of moral values in the students at the university campus will continue in the future with great zeal.

Secretary Health, Mansoor Abbas Rizvi distributed degrees to the graduates.

While addressing the convocation, Vice-Chancellor JSMU, Prof Amjad Saraj Memon, congratulated the parents for their unwavering sacrifices and support. He added that the year 2023 has been a period of growth and collaborations for JSMU.

This was achieved by introducing new programs, signing MoUs with national and international organizations, and opening new campuses.

He highlighted various ongoing projects at JSMU, including the establishment of SESSI’s affiliated hospital for the School of Nursing and Midwifery, establishment of Pakistan’s first Preventive Cardiology Clinic, operating at no cost for the underserved residents of Landhi, JSMU offered a flood relief initiative in locations such as Dadu, Matiari, Hub, and even further beyond.

KARACHI: Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori has said that business community is ready to stabilize the national economy.

Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori while addressing the “My Karachi Oasis of Colours Exhibition at Expo Centre, said that more than 300 exhibitors are participating in this exhibition. He said Siraj Qasim Teli started this exhibition in 2004.

He said, “Pakistan has a lot of resources but we do not know the direction at this time, I ask the rulers to tell our nation what the direction is, while our business community is ready to give stability to Pakistan.”

He said, “”We can do a lot as Allah has blessed us everything, we become good doctors and engineers but we should become good human beings.”

He also said “today I wonder what would have happened if there were no welfare institutions in the country and the middle class has disappeared today due to inflation, while the state has not been able to provide what it had to give.”

Kamran Tessori said that the city is under the control of mafias, whether it is garbage, electricity, gas or water, everything is scattered.

He said that let’s pledge that we will fight these mafias together.

JSMU awards degrees to over 630 graduates

KARACHI: Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) held its 4th convocation at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre Ground on Sunday to award degrees to over 630 successful graduates.

Forty medals were awarded to the best graduates and position holders of batch 2020 and 2021, out of which female students secured 24 medals. Saif Aslam Khan, a BDS student, received four medals for his exceptional performance.

Former Senior Director Medical and Health Services KMC Dr. Birbal Genani and his daughter Sapna Kumari received degrees simultaneously in the convocation.

On this occasion, Kamran Khan Tessori, the chief guest of the Convocation, addressed the students and asked them to respect and take good care of their parents and teachers who made them able to get this degree.

“There is a lot of talent in Pakistan and Pakistani youth are making the country proud all over the world”, he added.

Governor Sindh asked young people to consider Pakistan as their home and decorate it like their drawing room.

Minister Universities and Boards Ismail Rahu awarded degrees to graduates. In his speech, he asked the graduates to be true to their motherland and serve humanity with passion. He stressed on the importance Sindh Government attached to the education sector and pledged his support for educational projects in the province.

Speaking at the convocation, JSMU Vice Chancellor Prof Amjad Siraj Memon shed light on the milestones the university has achieved in recent years and shared that the JSMU is at the forefront of public universities having been declared the best among the medical universities of Sindh in the UK’s Times Higher Education Impact Ranking for 2022. “JSMU is working on sustainable strategies and programmes to provide modern and relevant health education in the province of Sindh,” the Vice Chancellor said.

He also shared his vision for the establishment of Jinnah Sindh Medical City and further briefed about the various projects that JSMU is currently working on, including the establishment of a boys’ medical college, the School of Nursing, the acquisition of SESSI’s Valika hospital in Landhi, the establishment of the College of Physical Therapy, and collaboration with Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC).
