MQM-P delegation meets with President Asif Zardari

KARACHI: A delegation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) on Wednesday met with President Asif Zardari.

MQM-P delegation was led by it convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui while Dr Farooq Sattar and Mustafa Kamal were also present in the meeting.

According to the spokesperson of the Chief Minister House, the MQM delegation congratulated Asif Ali Zardari on being re-elected as the President of the State, while the President thanked the MQM delegation for congratulating him.

The spokesman said that the MQM delegation had a discussion with President Asif Zardari regarding law and order situation of the Karachi.

On this occasion, Asif Ali Zardari said that today he has come to hold a meeting at the Chief Minister’s House regarding law and order in Sindh and he will take all the stakeholders together in the restoration of law and order.

The MQM delegation assured President Asif Zardari of full cooperation in future.

On the other hand, President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari presiding over a special law & order meeting at CM House directed the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to launch a large-scale operation against street criminals in Karachi, dacoits in the Katcha area, and drug traffickers throughout the province in close coordination with other provinces.

“I have zero tolerance for the illegal occupation of lands, and it must be stopped once and for all,” he firmly stated to the chief minister.

He urged the chief minister to provide a posting tenure to police officers, monitor their performance, and remove them when they fail to deliver.

Furthermore, Mr. Zardari instructed the chief minister to ensure that foreign nationals living and working in Sindh are provided with foolproof security.

ISLAMABAD: British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Ms Jane Marriott called on the Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui to discuss the challenges and opportunities being faced by the country in the education sector.

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that the Ministry of Education is working on a programme that aims to declare education emergency in Pakistan.

He said that the number of out-of-school children in Pakistan is ballooning and the only way to address this issue is by making it a national agenda.

The minister said that due to rapid and uncontrolled urbanisation slums in major cities are propping up. He said that these slums are ignored in every education policy.

He highlighted the importance of ensuring that no child should be left behind. He encouraged the UK to provide support in the cause of eliminating out-of-school children.

“We are burning the midnight oil in ensuring that the cause of education becomes one of the main agendas of national effort towards progress”. Ms Jane Marriott, British High Commissioner to Pakistan said that UK and Pakistan are the oldest partners and have been shoulder to shoulder since 1947.

She informed the minister that the UK encourages expansion of its green programme which can lead to an increase in enrolment of Pakistani students in UK universities via distance learning.

Secretary of Education Mohyuddin Wani highlighted that the Ministry of Education is developing a comprehensive plan which will declare an education emergency in the country and will furthermore align all the stakeholders on the same page.

Khalid Maqbool said that we have set a target to train one million youth in the IT sector. He said that he hopes that in the medium term, Pakistan will become one of the biggest suppliers of IT professionals to the world. He asked the UK to help in attaining IT certification for this IT-trained professional that would be recognised globally.

Furthermore, he said that the mental health of our students must be also catered to by professionals. He said that the education ministry aims to establish mental health awareness and support desks in all of the colleges in Islamabad.

James Hompson, Country Director British Council told the minister that after China the biggest British Council Programme is in Pakistan.

KARACHI: Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar talking to the MQM-P delegation led by Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that he would never allow injustice in the urban areas of the province in terms of development, employment and importance.

“Karachi is my city and other urban areas of the province such as Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and Larkana would be looked after properly”, he assured the delegation.

The MQM-P delegation comprised Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Dr. Farooq Sattar, and Mustafa Kamal. They called on him here at CM and discussed the overall situation, including general elections.

Dr. Khalid Maqbool told Justice (rtd) Maqbool Baqar that they had expressed satisfaction and support when his name was recommended for caretaker chief minister. The CM thanked them and said he would serve everyone irrespective of any consideration.

The delegation raised the issue of urban areas for which he assured them his personal attention to resolve the issue of the urban areas. The CM added that the main job of his government was to support the Election Commission of Pakistan(ECP) in holding free, fair, and transparent elections.

The MQM delegation took up the issue of increasing street crime in the city. The CM said that he has directed the city police to control the street crime by enhancing patrolling, vigilance, and starting operations against the street criminals and drug mafia.

Justice Baqar said that a major reshuffle has been made in the administration, including the police. ‘I am sure the new administration would make a difference,” he said.

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan(MQM-P) leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has said that now MQM will not protest but resist oppression.

MQM Pakistan leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, while addressing the meeting held at Bagh e Jinnah regarding the MQM Foundation Day. He said that March is the continuation of bright and eternal history. He said that those who had planned to create Pakistan had to promise to save Pakistan on March 18.

He said that like on March 23, 1940, the representative meeting of those who saved Pakistan is still going on here and  whole of Pakistan is represented in this meeting and that must unite the oppressed sections of Pakistan with one ideology and struggle.

MQM Pakistan leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui further said that power is not our civilization but civilization is our strength. He said MQM has to start a new and fresh struggle to save our nation from slavery.

On the other hand, Senior Deputy Convener MQM Dr. Farooq Sattar has said that only MQM can get the country out of the current economic crisis.

Senior Deputy Convener MQM Dr. Farooq Sattar said scattered people of MQM have united and today the largest gathering in the recent history of Karachi has taken place on the platform of MQM.

He said that all the parties have excluded MQM from the local bodies’ election through a systematic conspiracy. He said 80 percent of the people who boycotted the Karachi LB election are present at the MQM’s venue.
