Ahsan Iqbal calls for constituting committee to probe lynching incidents

Ahsan Iqbal

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal proposed to constitute a committee to probe the burgeoning incidents of lynching in the name of desecration and blasphemy across the country.

Speaking at the floor of the National Assembly (NA) on a ‘point of order’, he strongly condemned the Swat lynching incident stating that it had brought a bad name to the country in the comity of nations.

Ahsan, expressing his personal experience, informed that a religious extremist made an assassination attempt on him but he was survived by the grace of Allah Almighty. Taking law into own hands, he said, it was against the spirit of Islam and as well as the Constitution and law of the land.

Ahsan said it was high time to control ‘street justice’ as it was responsibility of the state and judiciary to administer punishment to a suspect of blasphemous actions.

Highlighting an incident from the Islamic history, he emphasized that Islam lays great importance to the dead bodies of non-Muslims therefore it was the violation of basic Islamic injunctions immolating any human being on the basis of mere allegation.

Ahsan said, “Due to ongoing trend of individuals acting as judge, jury, and executioner, we are far behind other nations at the global stage”.

Responding to Minister Ahsan, NA Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah suggested him to take up the issue in the federal cabinet as he was the part and parcel of it.

Kubra Khan Opens Up About Film ‘Abhi’ and Speaking Out on Palestine

Kubra Khan
  • Kubra Khan is a Pakistani drama and film actress.
  • Kubra explained her two-year absence from films.
  • Kubra shared how she chooses her projects.

Pakistani drama and film actor Kubra Khan, fresh off the big screen with her new Eidul Azha release, “Abhi,” recently sat down in an interview to discuss her latest projects, thoughts on Palestine, and more.

Kubra explained her two-year absence from films, citing a packed schedule. “After ‘London Nahi Jaunga’ in 2022, I started ‘Jannat Se Aagay,’ then ‘Noor Jahan,’ and simultaneously filmed ‘Abhi.’ In ten years, I’ve done six films, which is a lot compared to others,” she said. Kubra’s filmography includes “Na Maloom Afraad,” “Parwaaz Hai Junoon,” “Jawaani Phir Nahi Ani,” and now “Abhi.”

Kubra shared how she chooses her projects. “I’m very selective with my characters and scripts. If it doesn’t touch my heart, I don’t do it. ‘Abhi’ appealed to me because it addresses minorities and the powerless, an important and often overlooked topic,” she said. Kubra emphasized the film’s message about valuing every individual, regardless of their power or status.

Speaking about her character Zara in “Abhi,” Kubra noted similarities with herself, though Zara is more extroverted. She praised her co-star and musician Goher Mumtaz, highlighting his significant contributions to the music industry. On music in films, Kubra revealed she would avoid item numbers unless contextually relevant, referencing her dance in “Superstar.”

Kubra addressed misconceptions about the Pakistani film industry, citing upcoming releases like “Na Baligh Afraad” and “Umro Ayyar.” She also explained her reluctance to give interviews post-“Jannat Se Aagay,” due to becoming more introverted and fearing misinterpretation of her words.

Expressing sorrow for the ongoing genocide in Palestine, Kubra stressed the importance of awareness. “An entire nation is being wiped out, and some people still don’t know what’s happening. If we can’t speak about it, what’s our use as human beings?” she concluded.
