Kuwait first-ever announcement of electricity load shedding

Kuwait is facing its first-ever electricity load shedding amidst scorching temperatures as the nation grapples with soaring electricity demand.

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy has implemented temporary measures to manage the strain on power grids during peak hours.

Residents in affected areas may experience up to two hours of power cuts, aimed at balancing supply with unprecedented demand exacerbated by climate change.

Officials emphasize the critical need for prudent electricity usage between 11 am to 5 pm, urging the public to conserve energy to ease the burden on power plants. Despite these measures, essential services such as hospitals, government clinics, and blood banks remain unaffected, assured by backup generators ensuring continuous operation.

Kuwait, renowned for its oil wealth, has historically been insulated from such energy challenges.

However, as temperatures soar close to 50 degrees Celsius, authorities are bracing for even hotter days ahead.

The Ministry reassures the public that health facilities are equipped to handle load shedding without compromising medical services.

As the nation navigates this unprecedented situation, the Kuwait Meteorological Department warns of further heatwaves, underscoring the urgent need for sustainable energy practices to safeguard against future disruptions.
