Pakistan Budget 2024–25 Proposes Tax Hike on Phones

The federal government is considering implementing a flat 18% sales tax on mobile phones priced below $500 (equivalent to Rs139,008 as of June 19, 2024). If approved, this move would increase the prices of mobile phones from various companies, including Vivo.

The proposal was included in the budget for the next fiscal year (2024–25), presented on June 12 by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

If the proposals are approved, there will be a new tax rate for mid-range mobile phones in Pakistan, starting on July 1, 2024.

As per the finance bill of 2024, the government has proposed an 18% standard sales tax on all mobile phones priced below $500.

If the proposal to impose an 18% standard tax on phones valued below $500 is approved, the prices of Vivo mobile phones are anticipated to rise starting on July 1, 2024.
