Daniel Radcliffe selected for lead ‘All Quiet On The Western Front’

Daniel Radcliffe
  • ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ Daniel Radcliffe star was originally cast in the lead role.
  • Lesley Paterson revealed that the ‘Harry Potter’ actor was set to play the role of Paul Baumer.
  • Lesley explained how Daniel’s name alone was not enough to generate funding.

‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ star Daniel Radcliffe was originally cast in the lead role.

According to reports, screenwriter Lesley Paterson revealed that the ‘Harry Potter’ actor was set to play the role of Paul Baumer in one of his first film projects after the wizardry franchise ended in 2011.

Casting Daniel, 33, was thought to secure the necessary funding for the project based on Erich Maria Remarque’s 1929 novel, but this proved not to be the case.

Lesley told the a newspaper: “When we optioned the book 16 years ago, the landscape was so different. There’s no way you could have done a German-language film and raised any money for it.”

“So we decided pretty early on, we would probably have to pitch it as English speaking with a German accent. And we thought, ‘What names are going to raise finance?’ And at that time, Daniel Radcliffe was coming off the back of Harry Potter,” Lesley added.

According to reports, Lesley explained how Daniel’s name alone was not enough to generate funding for the film because it was the ‘Harry Potter’ brand that had made him so well known.

The 42-year-old triathlete said: “We realised pretty quickly that although he’s a wonderful actor, he wasn’t right for this and his name actually didn’t raise any finance.”

Germany: Police spoke to gunman weeks before attack in Hamburg

Germany
  • Philipp F had a permit to possess the weapon for sports purposes.
  • The gunman was seen on video firing through a glass.
  • Seven people were killed in Thursday’s attack.

A man who killed seven people in Germany was visited by police last month after a tip raised concerns about his mental state.

He cooperated with officers, and there were not enough grounds to take away his pistol at the time, according to police.

The 35-year-old suspect, identified only as Philipp F, had a permit to possess the weapon for sports purposes.

According to the interior minister, the country is preparing a new law that will tighten restrictions on gun ownership.

Seven people were killed in Thursday’s attack at a Jehovah’s Witness meeting hall in the city, including an unborn baby.

The initial emergency contact came in at 21:04 local time (20:04 GMT) reporting shots fired, and officers arrived four minutes later.

The gunman was seen on video firing through a glass. He then rushed to the premises, where hundreds of people had gathered, blasting nine magazines of ammo before turning the rifle on himself when police arrived.

A woman who was seven months pregnant was among the eight injured. She lived, but her unborn child died.

According to Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the death toll could grow.

According to German Senator Andy Grote, “fast and decisive” steps” by police personnel saved several lives. He called the incident the “worst crime” in recent Hamburg history.

Officials said the suspect had “ill feelings” towards the religious community, of which he had previously been a member before leaving “on bad terms”.

Jehovah’s Witnesses are members of a Christian-based religious movement that began in the United States around the close of the nineteenth century.

According to the movement’s most recent report from 2022, there are over 8.7 million Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide, with approximately 170,000 in Germany. There are thought to be about 4,000 members in Hamburg.

On Friday, Hamburg Police Chief Ralf Martin Meyer said officers visited the man in February after they received an anonymous letter claiming he “bore particular anger toward religious believers, in particular toward Jehovah’s Witnesses”.

The letter also said he “might be suffering from a mental illness, although it had not been medically diagnosed”.

Police said he was cooperative and had an open conversation with the officers. “The bottom line is that an anonymous tip in which someone says they’re worried a person might have a psychological illness, isn’t in itself a basis for [such] measures,” Chief Meyer said.

Forensic experts worked at the scene of the shooting on Deelböge street through the night but have since left the area.

Floral tributes have been laid near the front entrance by mourners. One man, cradling his young son and daughter, told the BBC that he tried to return home last night but was stopped by police armed with assault rifles.

Germany already has some of Europe’s tightest gun rules, including a requirement that anybody under the age of 25 undergo a psychological evaluation before obtaining a license.

According to the National Firearms Registration, there will be approximately one million private gun owners in Germany by 2021. They are responsible for 5.7 million legal firearms and firearm parts, the majority of which are owned by hunters.

Following major arrests in December in connection with an alleged coup plan, German authorities have been under pressure to tighten the country’s firearms restrictions even more.

The Oscars 2023 will take place on March 12, and American actor-dancer Lauren Gottlieb, who finished second in Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa season 6, is eager to perform on the song Naatu Naatu. The RRR song, which is up for Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards, has gone viral all around the world. In an Instagram post on Friday, Lauren, who has appeared in movies like ABCD: Any Body Can Dance (2013), revealed the “wonderful news” of her impending Oscars performance.

Lauren posted pictures of herself posing with the famous Hollywood Sign in the distance. She captioned the pictures, “NEWS SPECIAL!!! At the OSCARS, I’m performing on Naatu Naatu! I’m incredibly thrilled to represent India on the world’s most renowned stage. Good luck to me!” A response to her article stated, “Very happy for you! In a recent interview, Jr. NTR, who is in the US for the Oscars 2023 with Ram Charan and team RRR, stated that he and Ram will not be dancing to Naatu Naatu on stage. In the interview, Jr. NTR also mentioned the song’s performers, MM Keeravani, Rahul Sipligunj, and Kaala Bhairava. He continued by saying that India would also be walking down the red carpet at the forthcoming awards.

Junior NTR remarked, “I don’t think that’s happening,” when speaking with KTLA (him and Ram dancing to Naatu Naatu at the event). I eagerly anticipated it happening. But regrettably, we were unable to practice. We don’t want to be on the biggest platform in the world without being ready. Hence, we were busy. I was busy, and Charan may have been busy as well due to his numerous prior engagements at home. Thus, I don’t believe we will be performing; instead, the song will be sung by our music director (MM) Keeravani, Rahul (Sipligunj), and my brother (Kaala) Bhairava. I believe it will be enjoyable for me to watch the song from the audience because the moment I watch that clip, my legs have started aching all over again.”

MM Keeravani penned the song Naatu Naatu for the SS Rajamouli-directed historical drama RRR. It has been put forth for the upcoming Oscars’ Best Original Song category. RRR is the first Indian movie to be nominated for an Oscar Award in more than 20 years. The first Indian song to receive an Oscar nomination is Naatu Naatu.

China chooses Li Qiang as Premier, trusted ally of Xi Jinping

China
  • The National People’s Congress approved Li in a ceremonial vote.
  • Li received 2,936 votes, with three votes against him and eight abstentions.
  • Li is one of Xi’s most trusted lieutenants and one of the country’s most prominent leaders in decades.

China‘s rubber-stamp legislature has named Li Qiang, a long-time aide to leader Xi Jinping, as premier, with the burden of restoring the world’s second-largest economy following three years of zero-Covid restrictions.

On Saturday morning, the National People’s Congress approved Li in a ceremonial vote at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People. Li received 2,936 votes, with three votes against him and eight abstentions.

Li, 63, is one of Xi’s most trusted lieutenants and one of the country’s most prominent leaders in decades. He will succeed outgoing Premier Li Keqiang, who has served as Xi’s deputy since 2013.

Traditionally, the premiership is an influential job in charge of the economy, but Xi has undermined its power over the last decade by taking practically all decision-making into his own hands.

Yet, much of the next premier’s efforts will likely be focused on trying to turn around the Chinese economy, which recently set a GDP growth target of approximately 5% for this year – the lowest in decades.

That will not be easy: China is experiencing a historic downturn in the vital property market, consumer spending is weak, and youth unemployment remains high. Local governments are also burdened by debt.

Relations between the USA and China

With an unprecedented regulatory onslaught on the private sector and growing uncertainty about China’s future strategy, business confidence has plunged. Relations between the United States and China are at an all-time low, resulting in increasing conflicts in technology and investment. Foreign investment in China has been declining.

During a leadership transition in October, Xi picked Li Qiang, a former Communist Party boss of Shanghai who presided over the city’s catastrophic two-month lockdown, as the guy to take on these difficulties.

Li began his career as an irrigation pumping station worker in the eastern province of Zhejiang. He earned his bachelor’s degree in agricultural mechanization at a college in Ningbo before working his way up through the provincial bureaucracy.

His career took off after he worked as Xi’s de facto chief of staff between 2002 and 2007 when Xi was the party chairman of Zhejiang province.

According to observers, Li is the first premier since the Mao era who did not previously serve as vice premier at China’s State Council.

When Li was promoted last year, Julian Evans-Pritchard, senior China economist at Capital Economics, claimed that his personal links with Xi appeared to have sealed his elevation over more competent candidates.

Yet, some observers believe his time in Shanghai, particularly prior to last year’s Covid lockout, indicated a pragmatic, pro-business approach.

During Li’s tenure, Tesla built the city’s first gigafactory outside the United States. Tesla owns the entire factory, making it the first foreign automaker in China to do so.

According to Citi analysts in a research paper, “China’s business environment should grow more hospitable, at least in the next two years” under Li, who is expected to assist private enterprises and foreign investors.

In 2019, Li also oversaw the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s debut of China’s Nasdaq-style stock market.

Excessive salt consumption can be the cause of death

salt
  • The world is “off-track” to meet its goal of halving global sodium consumption by 2025.
  • One of the most important minerals for the body is sodium.
  • Too much of it raises the risk of heart disease, stroke, and early death.

In its initial study on reducing sodium intake, the World Health Organization (WHO) stated that excessive salt intake is one of the leading causes of death and disease worldwide. According to the analysis, the world is “off-track” to meet its goal of halving global sodium consumption by 2025.

One of the most important minerals for the body is sodium, but too much of it raises the risk of heart disease, stroke, and early death. While sodium (sodium chloride) is mostly found in table salt, it can also be found in other condiments like sodium glutamate.

According to the WHO’s global estimate, by 2030, the implementation of cost-effective salt reduction strategies might prevent the loss of 7 million lives worldwide.

Only nine nations, including Brazil, Chile, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Spain, and Uruguay, have an extensive set of suggested measures to lower sodium intake.

According to estimates, the average daily salt consumption across the globe is 10.8 grammes, more than twice the WHO recommendation of less than 5 grammes (one teaspoon).

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director general of the WHO, said, “Unhealthy diets are a leading cause of death and disease globally, and excessive sodium intake is one of the main culprits. This report shows that most countries are yet to adopt any mandatory sodium reduction policies, leaving their people at risk of heart attack, stroke, and other health problems. WHO calls on all countries to implement the ‘Best Buys’ for sodium reduction, and on manufacturers to implement the WHO benchmarks for sodium content in food.”

The four “best buy” strategies recommended by the health organisation to lower salt levels may help prevent noncommunicable diseases include:

  • Reducing the salt content of foods and establishing goals for the quantity of sodium in meals and foods
  • Limiting salt or sodium-rich foods in public institutions like hospitals, schools, workplaces, and nursing homes through establishing public food procurement programmes
  • Front-of-package information that enables buyers to choose items with less sodium
  • Campaigns in the media and behaviour change communication to cut back on salt and sodium consumption

There is growing proof that consuming too much sodium increases the chance of developing other illnesses like obesity, renal disease, osteoporosis, and stomach cancer.

  • To achieve his ripped look, Ranbir undertook a rigorous exercise routine and training session to achieve his six pack abs.
  • His fitness trainer Shivoham praised him for his dedication and hardwork.

On March 8, Luv Ranjan’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar was released, and it had a strong opening weekend—the best ever for an Indian romantic comedy. In the movie, which features Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in a novel pairing, Ranbir appeared buff and went shirtless to show off his six-pack abs. Shivoham, the actor’s personal trainer, has now explained how Ranbir underwent a grueling training regimen to get that look.

Shivoham, Ranbir’s personal trainer, posted two shirtless images of the actor looking ripped on Instagram. He congratulated the actor for having incredible discipline and dedication to acquire this appearance in the caption. What you see is a real illustration of a dedicated, disciplined lifestyle, the author stated. Because it’s a team effort, it’s impossible to participate halfheartedly and have such great outcomes. The number one reason you reach your goals and what makes you stand out from the competition is the Desire to wake up and do what is necessary, not the nutrition, supplements, or training. Ranbir was lauded by Shivoham for managing his personal and professional lives. In November of last year, the actor and his actress-wife Alia Bhatt had a daughter, Raha. Shivoham went on to say “juggling both his personal and professional lives. These are beliefs that are ingrained in you and conditioning that you take up from your parents and the people you surround yourself with; you cannot learn all of these things by reading books. Brother, I’m so proud of you. I can’t wait to reveal “THE ANIMAL” appearance to the world next (fingers crossed and red heart emoticons).”

On its debut day in India, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar generated revenue of 15.73 crore rupees net. The movie, which marks Ranbir and Shraddha Kapoor’s debut collaboration, outperformed Jab Harry Met Sejal, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma, on its first day of release to record the highest opening for a romantic comedy in India (2017).

Animal is one of the forthcoming movies starring Rashmika Mandanna and Ranbir. The movie, which will be released later this year, also stars Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor.
