Elephants are extremely clever animals that can feel and understand a wide range of emotions. These gorgeous animals are the cornerstones that sustain many ecosystems, from planting forests to digging out water holes to guarantee the wildlife population has a drinking source. However, they may also be rather foolish and destructive at times. A wild elephant was seen in a Reddit video breaking down an entire tree only to scratch its itchy back. We can certainly sympathise! The 17-second video has received over 2,400 likes on Reddit and has users in splits.

The wild elephant is seen in the video standing next to what looks to be a savannah tree. The big tusker knocks it down seconds later and rubs itself against the fallen tree to scratch that itch. The video was most likely captured by a tourist visiting a safari park.
The video has elicited numerous humorous reactions. “That tree grew in that spot for 80 years fighting drought and infestations only to be knocked over, killed, and used for an ass-scratcher. The indignity,” one user said. The humiliation.” Another person mentioned that such behaviour is extremely prevalent. “Not done for a “scratch”. Elephants routinely knock trees over and eat the roots. Go on a safari. It’s worth every penny.”
A third made a parallel between humans and elephants, stating, “Humans literally destroy whole forests and make hundreds of species go extinct each decade to fulfil consumerist whims. Humans have hunted tigers and rhinos almost to extinction just to collect some of their body parts. Humans are by far the worst.”
