RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Army has condemned the statements made by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan against the institution and its officers.
A statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the “baseless and irresponsible allegations” by Chairman PTI against the institution and particularly a senior army officer are absolutely unacceptable and uncalled for.
It said the Pakistan Army has a robust and highly effective internal accountability system applicable across the board for any unlawful acts committed by uniformed personnel.
It noted that the army will safeguard its officers and soldiers from any attempt to tarnish their prestige from vested interests through frivolous allegations.
“Pakistan army prides itself for being an extremely professional and well-disciplined organization with a robust and highly effective internal accountability system applicable across the board for unlawful acts, if any, committed by uniformed personnel.”
“However, if the honour, safety and prestige of its rank and file is being tarnished by vested interests through frivolous allegations, the institution will jealousy safeguard its officers and soldiers no matter what,” the statement added.
The military’s press wing said the baseless allegations hurled at the institution and officials and are highly regrettable and strongly condemned. No one will be allowed to defame the institution or its soldiers with impunity, it added.
It said the government of Pakistan has been requested to investigate the matter and initiate legal action against those responsible for defamation and false accusations against the institution and its officials without any evidence whatsoever.
It must be noted that Imran Khan had alleged that three people including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and a military officer were responsible for a plot to assassinate him.
