Florida guy drives car with 2 missing tyres: ‘Somebody put a curse on me’

The United States: When pulled over for driving with two tyres missing, a Florida man cited “paranormal activity” as the reason he continued driving home.

Andres Orjuela-Montealegre, 29, was pulled over on Interstate 75 at 4 a.m. on October 23 when Marion County Sheriff’s officers discovered deflated tyres on the driver’s side of the SUV.

Deputy Wilson realised the tyres weren’t simply deflated, but that Andres was “driving on what remained of the rim,” according to a news release from the Miami Herald.

“When the deputy asked about the damage to the vehicle, [the driver] stated someone had put a curse on him and that he hit a curb a little hard.”
The driver, a Tampa native, claimed he was given a “do or die” choice: go home without tyres or set fire to the car and sleep on the barrier, according to bodycam footage.
“Somebody put a curse on me,” the driver can be heard saying. “That is paranormal activity.”

Deputies decided to urge the driver to step out of his SUV and undergo sobriety tests after determining the behaviour was caused by more than simply demonic spirits.

He went through with it, only to become “increasingly agitated” and spit on the police. According to the sheriff’s office, Andres began threatening and kicking them and even tried to take a deputy’s taser from its holster.

The motorist was arrested and charged with two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, attempting to deprive an officer of a means of protection or communication, resisting an officer with violence, corrupting a public servant by threatening them and driving under the influence (DUI).

“He now faces up to 25.5 years of imprisonment and is being held on a $27,000 bond,” according to the law enforcement agency.
