Powerful blasts and gunfire were reported on Wednesday at Aden airport of Yemen shortly after a newly formed Yemeni government’s plane arrived from Saudi Arabia.
Following the damage, the Foreign Office (FO) has strongly condemned the attack at Aden airport of Yemen, targeting the cabinet members of the newly formed government in the country.
In a statement released by the FO, the spokesman said that they extend their sincere condolences on the loss of precious lives and wish speedy recovery for the injured.
“We believe this attack was not just condemnable as an act of senseless violence and terrorism, it was also reprehensible as an attempt to undermine the recent efforts by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and its positive results, that aimed at fostering enhanced peace and security in Yemen.”
The spokesman further said that Pakistan urges the international community to ensure respect for territorial integrity of Yemen and to support efforts aimed at promoting peace and security in the country.
Blasts hit Yemen’s Aden airport
It may be noted that no Yemeni cabinet minister had been injured in the attack. There were explosions shortly after landing.
He added that two explosions had taken place while the cabinet members were getting off the plane. Yemeni Information Minister Muammar Al-Iryani has accused Iranian-backed Houthi Shiite rebels of involvement in the attack.
Aljazeera reported that “The number of casualties has not been confirmed yet but sources said the explosions were powerful.”
Reuters news agency reported by quoting Security sources that at least five people have been dead and dozens more injured in the attack.
While AFP correspondent at the scene reported that he heard two explosions. “At least two explosions were heard as the cabinet members were leaving the aircraft,” the correspondent said.
