Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith divorce due to the Oscars 2022 controversy?

Will Smith

Since the slap heard around the world at the Oscars just over a month ago, Will Smith’s world has been flipped upside down.

Will has lost movie deals and received a lot of backlash, and now everyone is wondering what this means for the couple’s relationship.

The latest rumour got traction after Heat Magazine published an article in which an insider said: “Ever since the Oscars scandal, tensions between them have been palpable. There have been problems for years, but they’re barely speaking right now. If they were to split, Will has a fortune of $350million that Jada would be entitled to half of under Californian law.”

Divorce wasn’t even addressed by the insider, they only looked at what it would mean for Will and Jada, but they did insinuate the couple is on the rocks.

That said, we can’t make snap judgments based on an unsubstantiated suspicion.

Will and Jada haven’t mentioned their breakup yet.

Will Smith spotted all smiles in Mumbai after Oscars 2022 slap controversy

Will Smith spotted all smiles in Mumbai after Oscars 2022 slap controversy

After Oscars 2022 slap controversy, Will Smith has been the topic of the town for quite some time. Although the 53-year-old actor earned his first Academy Award for King Richard this year, many people will remember Will Smith unexpectedly slapping Chris Rock on the 94th Academy Awards stage after the comedian made a joke about Will’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

In the midst of Will Smith’s ongoing Oscars 2022 controversy, the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star was unexpectedly sighted in India.

Will is now in Mumbai and was photographed by photographers at Kalina Airport. Will was seen modestly welcoming everyone with a palm on his heart, all smiles, and was a picture of casual cool with a plain white tee, grey shorts, black and white sneakers, and a multicoloured bead on his neck as he got out of his car.

Smith was in good company, as the pandit next to him was also a pandit. Will also accommodated several of his followers by taking photos and selfies with them.

Meanwhile, as Will Smith’s punishment, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has barred him from attending the Oscars for ten years while retaining his Academy Award.

The prestigious festival’s 2022 ceremony decided not to telecast the Best Production Design, Best Editing, and Best Sound prizes, provoking a major protest from the film industry.

Meanwhile, Ahmed’s Short Film (Live Action) victory was announced before of time.

He said during his speech, “In such divided times, we believe that the role of story is to remind us there is no ‘us’ and ‘them’. There’s just ‘us’.”

Will Smith breaks down in tears after slapping Chris Rock at Oscars 2022

Will Smith slapped Chris Rock in the face on stage at the Oscars 2022 after the comedian made a joke about the actor’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

“This is a beautiful moment and I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me. It’s about being able to shine a light on all of the people,” Smith added.

“Jada, I can’t wait for GI Jane 2,” he said, clearly referring to her shaved hairstyle, which was the result of the hair loss condition alopecia.

Smith walked onto the stage and hit Rock before returning to his seat and yelling, “Keep my wife’s name out of your [expletive] mouth!”

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which organises the Oscars, issued a statement saying that it “does not condone violence in any form.”

Rock’s joke alluded to the 1997 film GI Jane, in which Demi Moore starred as the title character with a severe buzzcut.

The actor won his first Academy Award for his role as the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams in King Richard.

“Art imitates life,” he said. “I appear to be the insane father, just like Richard Williams. Love, on the other hand, can drive you insane.”

Following the incident, Rock presented the best documentary award, which was the reason he was on stage.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Scott Feinberg, Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry had to “pull aside and comfort” a tearful Smith.

During an ad break, the trio could be seen talking just in front of the stage, with Washington and Perry putting their hands on his shoulders. Bradley Cooper, who starred in A Star Is Born, was also seen standing with Smith and appearing to reassure him.

Sean will now present the following section “”Will and Chris, we’re going to solve that like family,” Diddy” Combs said. Right now, we’re focusing on love.”

Smith appeared on the red carpet with sons Trey and Jaden, daughter Willow, and his wife at the Vanity Fair Oscar party, smiling for photographers and posing with his award.

Other partygoers reacted to the incident, with filmmaker David Furnish saying that he tells his sons with Elton John “don’t hit anybody… under any circumstances.”

Tiffany Haddish, an actress and comedian, defended Smith, saying he was standing up for his wife.

“And that’s how we do it,” Jaden Smith tweeted after his father hit Rock.

Other members of the film industry chastised Smith, with The Last Samurai producer Marshall Herskovitz urging the Academy to discipline him and Star Wars actor Mark Hamill calling it “the ugliest Oscar moment ever.”

He continued, saying: “Stand-up comedians are experts at dealing with hecklers. Violent physical assault, on the other hand, not so much.”

Doubt began to creep in when Smith rose from his seat and hit Rock on the stage. Of course, these guys are veterans of film and television, and would know how to carry out a fake stage slap. Except, everyone was starting to think, it didn’t look that fake.

By the time Smith was sitting back in his seat and shouting to Rock to “keep my wife’s name out your [expletive] mouth”, it was clear this was no sketch. A professional like Smith would know better than to drop the F-bomb on stage during a live TV broadcast.

Much like previous Oscars that were defined by their viral moments – such as Ellen’s group selfie or the best picture winner mix-up in 2017 – this will now forever be the Oscars where Will Smith punched Chris Rock.

The Girls Trip star said she first suspected she had alopecia after “handfuls of hair” came loose in the shower.

“I was just like, ‘Oh my God, am I going bald?’ It was one of those times in my life where I was literally shaking with fear,” she explained. “That’s why I cut my hair and continue to cut it.”

This was not Rock’s first time making a joke about Pinkett Smith at the Academy Awards. He hosted the ceremony in 2016, when she was among the celebrities who boycotted it due to a lack of diversity in the nominations.

“Jada Pinkett Smith boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties – I wasn’t invited!” he said that year.

Other winners at Sunday’s ceremony included Jessica Chastain for best actress for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Jane Campion for best director for The Power of the Dog, and Apple TV film Coda for best picture.

Ariana DeBose won best supporting actress for West Side Story, while Troy Kotsur won best supporting actor for Coda, which also won best picture.

Accepting the Oscar for best actor for King Richard, he stated that Richard Williams was a “fierce defender of his family” and that he was “being called on” in his life to “love people and protect people.”

He concluded by expressing his hope that the Academy would invite him back.

Oscars will have a host again in 2022

Oscars will have a host again in 2022

The Oscars will have a host for the first time since 2018, broadcaster ABC said Tuesday, after television ratings for film’s biggest night have plummeted in recent years.

The 94th Academy Awards, scheduled for March 27, will see Tinseltown’s most important prize-giving event return to its traditional Dolby Theatre venue in Hollywood.

Last year’s unorthodox edition, held at a Los Angeles train station with no host, was watched by just over 10 million viewers — a 56 percent decline from 2020, which was already a record low.

“You heard it here first, I can confirm that this year’s Oscars will have a host,” Craig Erwich, president of ABC Entertainment and Hulu Originals, told a virtual panel discussion hosted by the Television Critics Association.

Erwich declined to give any further details, including whether Jimmy Kimmel — host of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and the last two hosted Oscars in 2017 and 2018 — will return.

“It might be me,” he quipped.

In 2019, comedian Kevin Hart pulled out of hosting the Academy Awards after homophobic tweets he made several years earlier reemerged.

He was not replaced, and while that year’s hostless format drew praise and was even emulated by other awards shows such as the Emmys, subsequent Oscar ceremonies were criticized for lacking focus and humor.

Also on Tuesday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that veteran Glenn Weiss will direct the Oscars for a seventh consecutive year.

Few details have been confirmed for the show, which will be produced by Will Packer and were postponed for a second consecutive year.

The delay, reportedly to avoid clashing with February’s Winter Olympics and the Super Bowl in Los Angeles, was announced months before the Omicron variant forced multiple Hollywood shows to scrap in-person events this winter.

Honorary Oscars gala delayed as Hollywood braces for Omicron

Honorary Oscars gala delayed as Hollywood braces for Omicron

The Governors Awards — an annual gala where honorary Oscars are handed out — became the latest glitzy Hollywood event postponed Wednesday, as fears grow of a surge in coronavirus cases fueled by the Omicron variant.

Actors Samuel L Jackson and Danny Glover, Norway’s Liv Ullmann and actress-director Elaine May had been due to receive golden statuettes to honor their careers next month at an event that typically draws a who’s who of Tinseltown.

“We have made the difficult decision to change our plans in hosting the Governors Awards in person on January 15,” the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said in a statement.

“Given the uncertainties around the variants, and the impact this could have on our community, we feel this is the best and safest decision for our honorees and guests.”

The Academy said “rescheduled plans will come at a later date” for this season’s Governors Awards. The main Oscars ceremony is still currently set to take place on March 27.

In recent months, Hollywood’s annual film award season had kicked off with a return to the usual in-person premieres, galas and receptions.

But several events have been scrapped or delayed in just the past few days.

On Wednesday, the starry Critics Choice Awards gala was also postponed from its early January slot.

“We are currently working diligently to find a new date during the upcoming awards season in which to host our annual gala in-person with everyone’s safety and health remaining our top priority,” said the Critics Choice Association in a statement.

Others to delay or cancel included a red-carpet event for new Star Wars series “The Book of Boba Fett,” the Palm Springs International Film Festival gala, the annual BAFTA Los Angeles Tea Party and a premiere for Peter Dinklage musical “Cyrano.”

California currently boasts the lowest positivity rate of any US state at 3.3 percent, and continues “to lead the nation in terms of administered doses of vaccine,” Governor Gavin Newsom said Wednesday.

But California has still “seen a significant increase in the number of identified cases of Covid” in the past week, he warned.

Data suggests Omicron has become the main variant for new cases in the state.

While A-list film events are disappearing, movie theaters are enjoying a rare spell of positive news, with “Spider-Man: No Way Home” obliterating box office records.

The superhero film took in $260 million at domestic theaters on its first weekend. No other film opening during the pandemic had previously reached $100 million.
