Apple has postponed the release of Will Smith’s next film, Emancipation, in the wake of his now-famous Oscars smack of Chris Rock, according to reports.
The upcoming drama is produced by Apple Original Films and Smith’s Westbrook Studios, and was set to debut this year. However, sources say there is a ‘unspoken fact’ that the film will not be released until 2023,’ according to Variety.

Prior to this year’s Oscars, the Antoine Fuqua-directed film was already generating awards hype, but Smith’s on-camera assault on Chris Rock put the studio into damage control.
The 53-year-performance old’s was expected to garner him an Oscar nomination, but that was before he smacked Chris Rock on stage at the 2022 event.
According to Variety, ‘it’s the unspoken truth’ that the historical drama, which would have been Smith’s first after the trauma, would not be released until 2023.
