Johnny Depp is hopeful that the shocking trial would help restore his image, since his primary purpose in initiating the defamation action against his ex-wife was to clear his name in public.

The jury has begun deliberate following six weeks of testimony in the 58-year-old actor’s defamation trial against Amber Heard.

 

“This has never been a money matter for Depp,” said Depp’s lawyer, Benjamin Chew. “It’s about Mr. Depp’s reputation and getting him out of the prison where he’s been for the past six years.”

Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez told the jury in closing arguments in his libel lawsuit against his ex-wife that Heard “ruined his life by fraudulently informing the world she was a survivor of domestic abuse at the hands of Mr. Depp.”

The Pirates of the Caribbean star has already stated that he is going through the struggle with his ex-wife for the sake of his children.

According to analysts, the actor’s triumph is especially significant since it may assist demonstrate that anything false was claimed about him.
Meanwhile, Heard’s attorneys claim Depp damaged her life by waging a smear campaign against her after she divorced him and publicly accused him of violence in 2016.

Depp is suing Heard in Virginia’s Fairfax County Circuit Court for $50 million over an op-ed she penned in The Washington Post in 2018 identifying herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.” His attorneys claim that the piece defamed him despite the fact that it never stated his name.

After his lawyer dismissed her charges as a fraud, Heard filed a $100 million lawsuit against the former “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor.
