The much-anticipated web series “Guns and Gulaabs” is gearing up for its grand debut on Netflix this upcoming weekend. This comedy thriller set in the 1990s boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Dulquer Salmaan, Rajkummar Rao, Gulshan Devaiah, and Adarsh Gourav in leading roles. Recently, the renowned director duo Raj and DK organized a screening of the project in Mumbai, attended by the show’s cast, crew, and other notable figures from the film industry.

Dulquer Salmaan, making his OTT debut with “Guns and Gulaabs,” graced the Netflix series’ screening event with his elegant wife, Amaal Sufiya. Salmaan donned a retro-patterned shirt paired with white parallel trousers, complemented by tinted eyeglasses, a distinctive silver necklace, and beige shoes, capturing the essence of the 90s. Amaal opted for a green and black printed outfit, paired with minimal accessories and black heels.

Rajkummar Rao emanated retro charm in a black jacket with white prints, a black high-neck t-shirt, matching trousers, and black shoes. Adarsh Gourav chose a brown suit and white shirt for the occasion. Shreya Dhanwanthary, the female lead, appeared elegant in a red net saree, accompanied by a matching sleeveless blouse, chandelier earrings, and a wavy hairdo adorned with red roses. Director Raj Nidimoru, Krishna DK, and the remaining cast also made stylish entrances.

Notably absent from the event was one of the show’s leading actors, Gulshan Devaiah, without a specified reason. The screening event was attended by numerous prominent celebrities such as Babil Khan, Huma Qureshi, Ishaan Khattar, and more.

The Netflix series, generating anticipation with its promising trailer, reportedly draws inspiration from the British TV series “Misfits of the World.” In addition to Rajkummar Rao, Dulquer Salmaan, Gulshan Devaiah, and Adarsh Gourav, the Raj and DK-directed show features an impressive ensemble cast including Satish Kaushik, Pooja Gor, Shreya Dhanwanthary, Ashmith Kunder, Gautam Sharma, Vipin Sharma, and others in pivotal roles. “Guns and Gulaabs” is set to premiere on August 18, Friday.

Dulquer Salmaan’s Tribute to Siddique: ‘The Kindest Soul

Renowned director Siddique, a beloved figure in Malayalam cinema, breathed his last at the age of 63 on August 8. The film industry was left in shock as news broke that Siddique had succumbed to a heart attack, leading to his admission at Kochi’s Amrita Hospital. The distressing incident occurred around 3 PM on August 7, prompting his immediate hospitalization. Medical reports revealed that he had been supported by an Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) machine.

This heartrending news prompted a wave of emotions from Indian celebrities who turned to their social media platforms to express their grief and pay tribute to the late director. Among those who poured their hearts out was actor Dulquer Salmaan, who took to Instagram to pen an emotional note in memory of Siddique.

Sharing a photograph of Siddique, the director behind the hit film “Bodyguard,” which starred Salman Khan, Dulquer Salmaan’s poignant words read, “The gentlest soul. The kindest human. A gifted writer/director. The most incredible humor hiding behind his soft demeanor. He gave us some of the most iconic films. Part of our pop culture and referred to in our everyday conversations. This is an immeasurable loss.”

Dulquer Salmaan’s tribute concluded with a heartfelt message: “Prayers and strength to Siddique Sir’s family and loved ones.”

The Instagram post was met with a flood of responses from fans and admirers. One individual expressed, “RIP, you will always reside in our hearts. A brother who made Malayalees laugh for a long time.” Another comment highlighted, “Salute to the director who gifted us so many wonderful movies.” A poignant note read, “A tearful salute to the popular director, Siddique….!” Others shared sentiments like “Utterly disheartening. He taught a generation to laugh out loud” and “Rest in peace Siddique sir. Remembering him for his great films and his unique record of scoring superhits in three languages with the film ‘Bodyguard’ (Malayalam/Tamil/Hindi).”

Siddique’s directorial journey culminated with the 2020 release of “Big Brother,” featuring Mohanlal in the lead role. The film also starred Arbaaz Khan, Anoop Menon, Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Sarjano Khalid, Honey Rose, and Siddique himself. As the Malayalam film fraternity mourns the loss of a creative genius, Siddique’s cinematic contributions and his warm persona remain etched in the hearts of fans and colleagues alike.

A teaser, titled Chup, was recently released. Balki discusses, “Chup is a thriller and there are a lot of Guru Dutt references in the film. It’s not based on Guru Dutt, but you will hear of him and his films. Basically, it’s about the artist in him.”

Balki maintains that all of the actors were chosen for a specific reason. “I like to cast people not so much unexpectedly, but based on who I feel is closest to my character,” Balki goes on to remark that the casting is nothing out of the ordinary. “This is a commercial film, a commercial thriller, but in a world never done before. The thought is very relevant today and the narrative isn’t different from what we usually see. It’s a new space for Sunny sir, but there is nothing unusual.”
