Gulshan Devaiah Expresses Interest In Kannada Film Industry

Gulshan Devaiah

Actor Gulshan Devaiah, known for his diverse acting abilities, shares his perspective on success and failures, highlighting his preference for the element of surprise in the future. He expresses his desire to work in a Kannada film and hopes for a second opportunity to do so. Devaiah also discusses Bengaluru’s vibrant theatre scene and the thriving crime genre in both films and OTT platforms. He addresses the ongoing discourse concerning content and language on OTT platforms, underlining the significance of sincerity in artistic expression.

Gulshan Devaiah, a seasoned performer, emphasized, “I don’t know what lies ahead. [It’s like] I’m on an endless river, rowing a boat. Maybe I’ll get tired one day and get off the boat. But, I’d like the future to be a bit surprising. That’s something I concern myself with.”

Although he has accomplished much in his career, Devaiah has an outstanding aspiration—to work in a Kannada film. Having grown up in Bengaluru, he recalls being offered a Kannada film titled “Rudraprayag” by filmmaker Rishab Shetty before the pandemic disrupted plans. Devaiah expresses his eagerness to take on a Kannada film project, given the opportunity, considering his connection to the vibrant theatre culture in the city.

Devaiah’s journey encompasses theatre, films, and OTT platforms, with his upcoming role in a crime-themed production by Raj & DK. He observes that the crime genre is flourishing across different platforms due to its versatility, encompassing elements of romance, comedy, realism, and action.

In the midst of discussions about content and language on OTT platforms, Devaiah offers his perspective, acknowledging the subjectivity of what’s deemed appropriate. He suggests that context plays a pivotal role in the interpretation and encourages sincerity in artistic endeavours.

Rishab Shetty receives  “valuable present” from Kamal Haasan

Rishab Shetty
  • Kamal Hassan sent Rishab Shetty an appreciation letter.
  • In it he referred to the Kannada film Kantara as a classic and compared it to Malayalam classic Nirmalyam.
  • The veteran actor said: “Your cinematic DNA has many forefathers you may not know of”

In a letter to Rishab Shetty, renowned actor Kamal Haasan lauded the Malayalam masterpiece Nirmalyam and compared Rishab’s Kannada film Kantara to it. Here is his complete statement.

Veteran actor Kamal Hassan sent an appreciation letter to Kantara’s director and actor Rishab Shetty On Friday, Rishab took to Instagram to thank the ‘legend’ for his ‘lovely message’ and ‘precious gift’. He added he was ‘too overwhelmed and awestruck’ with Kamal’s gift. In his letter, Kamal Hassan referred to Rishab Shetty’s film as a classic, and said, “I know you could not have seen a film called Nirmalyam by MT Vasudevan Nair. Your film has shades of that classic. Your cinematic DNA has many forefathers you may not know of, but remember that the cinematic language you speak came from them.”
Rishab Shetty shared a glimpse of Kamal Hassan’s appreciation letter and wrote in the caption, “It means a lot to receive such a lovely message from the legend of Indian cinema. Too overwhelmed and awestruck to see this surprise gift from Kamal sir. Thanks a ton for this precious gift, sir…”

Rishab Shetty thanked Kamal Haasan for his letter.

In the framed note, Kamal Hassan had said that while he should have written an appreciation letter the day he watched Kantara, the letter would not have been able to express enough. A part of his note read, “A film like Kantara stays in your mind and blossoms. I am a Godless man, yet I understand the need for one in most. I truly believe compassion is lacking in Gods depicted in most of our mythology. We of the Dravidian stock are a matriarchal society. That is seen in the last scene of your film, where the God behaves like a mother, rather than a testosterone father that he started off as.” Reacting to Kamal’s letter, a fan commented on Rishab’s post, “Lovely words and well-deserved appreciation, but a small correction it’s not mythology.”

Earlier, veteran actor Rajnikanth had reviewed the Kannada film, calling it a ‘masterpiece of Indian cinema’. He also praised the efforts of the film’s lead actor and director Rishab. Kantara is set in the fictional village of Dakshina Kannada. The movie follows Rishab’s journey as he engages in combat with a forest range officer. A sequel for the movie is reportedly in the works.
