19 convicts involved in May 9 tragedy granted pardon: ISPR

RAWALPINDI: The sentences of at least 19 convicts have been pardoned after they appealed for mercy, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday.

According to ISPR, a total of 67 convicts have given their mercy petitions. 48 petitions have been processed to Courts of Appeal while, petitions of 19 convicts have been accepted purely on humanitarian grounds, in accordance with law. Mercy petitions of remaining will be decided in due course of time, following the legal process.

Those whose punishment has been remitted are:

They all shall be released after completion of procedural formalities.

All those convicted retain the right of appeal and other legal remedies as per the law and the constitution.

RAWALPINDI: The military court sentenced 60 more culprits including Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) founder nephew Hassan Niazi over their involvement in the May 9 cases.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), more accused involved in the May 9 tragedy have been sentenced, 60 more culprits have been sentenced by the Field General Court Martial(FGCM).

ISPR said that Hassan Khan Niazi, son of Hafeezullah Niazi, involved in the Jinnah House attack, has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(PTI) had announced to challenge the decision of the military court, calling the punishments of the accused against the constitution.

The US, UK and EU had expressed concerns over the sentencing of the civilians by the military courts, maintaining that the convictions were against the international law.

Responding to the concerns raised by the foreign countries, the Foreign Office (FO) said that the military courts’ judgments were made under a law enacted by the parliament and in line with the ruling of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Security forces kill six terrorists trying to infiltrate through Pak-Afghan border

RAWALPINDI: Security Forces killed 13 terrorists in intelligence based operation (IBO) in South Wazirsistan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces conducted an intelligence based operation in general area Sararogha, South Waziristan District on reported presence of terrorists (khwarij).

During the conduct of operation, own troops effectively engaged khwarij location, as a result of which, thirteen terrorists (khwarij) were sent to hell.

Killed terrorists (khwarij) remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against the security forces as well as killing of innocent civilians.

Sanitization operation is being carried out to eliminate any other Kharji found in the area, as security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe-out the menace of terrorism from the country.

RAWALPINDI: Three weeks’ long Pak-China Joint Exercise Warrior-VIII between Pakistan Army and Peoples Liberation Army of China concluded on Wednesday.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pak-China Joint Exercise Warrior-VIII between Pakistan Army and Peoples Liberation Army of China was conducted from 19 November to 11 December 2024.

Three weeks’ long Exercise in Counter Terrorism domain is 8th in the series of bilateral exercises being held annually. Distinguished Visitor’s Day (DVD) Ceremony of the Exercise was conducted at Tilla Field Firing Range on 10 December 2024.

Commander Rawalpindi Corps, Lieutenant General Shahid Imtiaz, HI (M) graced the ceremony as Chief Guest while, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan along with dignitaries from China were also present.

Dignitaries appreciated high standards of professionalism displayed by troops during the Exercise.

“On this day in 1971, during the Indo-Pak War at the Zafarwal-Shakargarh Sector, Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed displayed unparalleled courage and extraordinary devotion to duty.

RAWALPINDI: The security forces on Friday killed four terrorists in three separate engagements in Balochistan.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), an intelligence based operation was conducted in Awaran District on reported presence of terrorists.

During the conduct of operation, after intense fire exchange, two terrorists were successfully neutralized; both high value targets identified as Niaz aka Ghuman and Zareef aka Shah Jahan.

In another operation in Dera Bugti District, own troops effectively neutralised one terrorist, it further said.

In yet another engagement in Kech District, own troops, while conducting an intelligence based operation, killed another terrorist.

“The killed terrorists were involved in numerous terrorist activities against security forces as well as the innocent civilians and were highly wanted by the law enforcement agencies,” it said.

Security forces of Pakistan, in step with the nation, remain determined to thwart attempts at sabotaging peace, stability and progress of Balochistan.

RAWALPINDI: At least 12 security personnel were martyred in a suicide attack in Bannu District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa here on Wednesday.

According the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), terrorists (Khawarij) attempted to attack a joint check post in the general area of Mali Khel in Bannu on November 19 (Tuesday).

“In ensuing fire exchange, six terrorists (khwarij) were sent to hell. The attempt to enter the post was effectively thwarted by own troops, which forced the terrorists (khwarij) to ram an explosive laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of the post.

The suicide blast led to collapse of portion of perimeter wall and damaged the adjoining infrastructure, resulting in martyrdom of 12 brave sons of soil that include 10 soldiers of the security forces and two soldiers of Frontier Constabulary,” said  military’s media wing in a statement.

“Sanitization operation is being conducted in the area and the perpetrators of this heinous act will be brought to justice.

Security forces and law enforcement agencies of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave men further strengthen our resolve,” it further said.

RAWALPINDI: The two-week long Pakistan-South Africa Joint Exercise Iqbal-I in Counter Terrorism domain was conducted between the Armies of Pakistan and Republic of South Africa at Cherat that had concluded after the closing ceremony was held.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR),  two weeks long exercise commenced on 15 October 2024 where two Combat Teams from Special Services Group, Pakistan Army and Republic of South Africa Special Forces participated in the Exercise.

The Commandant Special Operation School, attended the closing ceremony as Chief Guest. Colonel SS Lechoenyo, Chief of Staff Republic of South Africa Special Forces also witnessed the Closing Ceremony.

The troop displayed highest standards of professional excellence during the conduct.

The Exercise was aimed at refining the drills, procedures and techniques involved in CT operations through joint training, besides harnessing the historic military to military relations among the friendly countries.
