ATC indicts PTI leader in May 9, burning PML-N office cases

LAHORE: An anti -terrorism court (ATC) Lahore has indicted Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf(PTI) leaders and workers in case related to the May 9 and torching of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) office.

Yasmin Rashid, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, Ejaz Chaudhry and Mian Mahmood-ul -Rasheed were charged in both cases by the court. The court indicted 31 accused, including PTI leaders.

The court charged the accused in both cases and summoned the witnesses against the accused for evidence.

An anti -terrorism court adjourned the hearing till February 20, ordering further proceedings in Kot Lakhpat Jail.

19 convicts involved in May 9 tragedy granted pardon: ISPR

RAWALPINDI: The sentences of at least 19 convicts have been pardoned after they appealed for mercy, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday.

According to ISPR, a total of 67 convicts have given their mercy petitions. 48 petitions have been processed to Courts of Appeal while, petitions of 19 convicts have been accepted purely on humanitarian grounds, in accordance with law. Mercy petitions of remaining will be decided in due course of time, following the legal process.

Those whose punishment has been remitted are:

  3. Laeeq Ahmed s/o Manzoor Ahmed

  8. Muhammad Suleman s/o Said Ghani Jan
  9. Hamza Sharif s/o Muhammad Azam
  10. Muhammad Salman s/o Zahid Nisar
  11. Asher Butt s/o Muhammad Arshad Butt
  12. Muhammad Waqas s/o Malik Muhammad Khalil
  13. Sufayan Idrees s/o Idrees Ahmed
  14. Muneeb Ahmed s/o Naveed Ahmed Butt
  15. Muhammad Ahmed s/o Muhammad Nazir
  16. Muhammad Nawaz s/o Abdul Samad
  17. Muhammad Ali s/o Muhammad Boota
  18. Muhammad Bilawal s/o Manzoor Hussain

They all shall be released after completion of procedural formalities.

All those convicted retain the right of appeal and other legal remedies as per the law and the constitution.

The remission of punishments is a testament to the strength of the due process and fairness, which ensures that justice is served while also taking into account the principles of compassion and mercy.

ATC directs to complete investigation from Bushra Bibi in 7-days

RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Terrorism Court(ATC) has directed to complete the investigation from Bushra Bibi regarding May 9 tragedy cases in 7 days.

The hearing related to the May 9 cases against Bushra Bibi and other accused was held in Adiala Jail, where the anti-terrorism court rejected Bushra Bibi’s application for interim bail.

More than 500 accused of May 9, including Imran Khan, Sheikh Rashid, Shibli Faraz, Ghulam Sarwar, Sadaqat Abbasi, Shireen Mazari and Azam Swati appeared in the hearing held in Adiala Jail.

On the other hand, Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb of Islamabad High Court heard Bushra Bibi’s plea against abuse in jail where Bushra Bibi’s lawyer appeared in the case.

During the hearing, Bushra Bibi’s lawyer said that the registrar office raised objections to Bushra Bibi’s plea.

Justice Miangul Hasan said that the office’s objection to Bushra Bibi’s request is based on malice, she is arrested in a NAB case from Islamabad and Adiala Jail is Islamabad’s jail as far as the prisoners of Islamabad are concerned.

Later, Bushra Bibi’s petition against ill-treatment in the jail was sent to Superintendent Adiala Jail.

LHC declares PTI founder’s physical remand in May 9 cases null and void

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court(LHC) declared Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI)  founder Imran Khan’s physical remand in 12 cases of May 9 null and void.

The petitions against physical remand in 12 cases of founder PTI were heard by a 2-member bench comprising of Justice Tariq Saleem and Justice Anwar-ul-Haq of the Lahore High Court, while the Prosecutor General Punjab gave arguments in the case.

In the hearing, Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh said that you cannot force the accused to undergo photogrammatic test, while Justice Anwar ul Haq Pannun remarked that when did you get the idea that modern devices should be used now.

Prosecutor General Punjab Farhad Ali Shah said in his arguments that the facility of photogrammatic test is inside the jail and should not be taken outside.

The Prosecutor General said that the PTI founder made a special narrative out of the tweets, the recovery of those tweets and WhatsApp messages from mobile phones is not possible without investigation.

MIANWALI: Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(PTI) Member of National Assembly Amjad Ali Khan was released from Mianwali Jail.

Amjad Ali Khan was granted bail in 2 cases on May 9, after which he was released from jail and reached home.

Amjad Ali Khan was re-arrested under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance on Thursday, but on the order of the Lahore High Court, the Commissioner withdrew the orders of the 3 MPOs, after which he was released from Mianwali Jail.

Additionally, 36 PTI workers have also been released from Mianwali Jail.

LHC rejects plea against jail trial of May 9 arson cases as inadmissible

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court(LHC) dismissed the petition against the jail trial of the May 9 arson cases as inadmissible.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi of Lahore High Court heard the petition against the jail trial of the May 9 arson cases.

In the petition, the position was adopted that the notification of the jail trial was not issued in the light of the rules of the High Court while the jail trial cannot be clean and transparent.

Justice Ali Baqar Najafi declared that the notification of jail trial has been issued according to the law, if there is anything illegal in the jail trial, it should be proved.

The court dismissed the petition as inadmissible.
