ANF arrests 8 drug traffickers in seven raids

RAWALPINDI: Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) in its crackdown against drug traffickers managed to recover over 425 kg of drugs and arrested eight accused including a woman.

ANF spokesman informed that 240 kg hashish and 120 kg heroin were recovered from Galimain Ghandi Lakpas, Quetta.

Thirty kilograms of hashish was recovered from Chenab Toll Plaza Gujarat while two accused were arrested.

Eighteen kilograms of opium and 5 kg of hashish were recovered from a vehicle in Othal Lasbela while two accused were netted during the operation.

Five kg heroin and 1 kg Ice drug were recovered from an accused in Sambrial, Sialkot.

In the fifth operation, 3 kg heroin was recovered from the possession of a woman arrested near Niazi bus stand in Lahore.

Two kg of Ice drug was recovered from an accused rounded up near Sher Shah Toll Plaza Multan.

In the seventh operation, 1.1 kg of Ice drug was recovered near Zero Line, Torkham.

Cases under the Anti-Narcotics Act have been registered against the arrested accused and further investigations are under process.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), tremors were felt in Quetta and suburbs.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC), the epicenter of the earthquake was Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, while its depth was 98 kilometers.

PM directs to accelerate effort of curb power theft in Sindh

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar directed the relevant authorities to accelerate their efforts to curb electricity theft in Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Sindh and Quetta.

The prime minister, chairing a review meeting on the anti-power theft campaign, also instructed to speed up the solarisation of agriculture tube-wells.

He also sought a comprehensive report on the resistance faced during the anti-power theft drive in Balochistan and other allied issues. The prime minister told the participants of the meeting that it was the caretaker government’s responsibility to leave behind an established system for the next democratic government concerning the steps like anti-power theft campaign.

The prime minister was briefed on the outcomes of the campaign since its launch. He was told that the process was going on successfully in collaboration with the provincial governments. It was informed that under the campaign, a total of 19,415 power thieves were arrested and 39,836 First Information Reports were registered against power theft since September. Around 189 government officials had also been suspended over their involvement in the electricity theft.

The meeting was told that the campaign against the electricity theft remained the most successful in Mardan where the power theft ratio declined from 43 percent to 13 percent. The participants were told that Rs 14 billion had been recovered under the campaign till September 30. Prime Minister Kakar lauded the performance of the Energy Ministry, power distribution companies, and relevant federal and provincial authorities for the successes achieved in the campaign.

RAWALPINDI: Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) arrested three drug peddlers and recovered 108 kg drugs from their possession in five different raids.

ANF Headquarters spokesman informed that 24.8 kg hashish was recovered from an accused, resident of Kohat arrested on Super Highway Karachi. On the pointation of the accused, a co-accused, resident of Karachi was also arrested.

In another operation at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi Courier Office, ANF recovered 180 grams Ice drug from a parcel booked for Dubai. 30 kg hashish concealed in doors of a vehicle was recovered on Sibi Road Quetta. During the operation, an accused, resident of Naseerabad was arrested.

Drugs concealed for the purpose of smuggling were recovered in Chagai and Kach districts. 25 kg hashish, 8 kg heroin, 1 kg opium, 30 grams ice drug and 20 kg prohibited materials were recovered.

RAWALPINDI: Security forces foiled a terrorist activity in Chaman area of Balochistan and recovered a huge cache of arms, and ammunition in an intelligence-based operation (IBO).

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), an Intelligence Based Operation (IBO) was carried out in area of Boghra Road Chaman area of Balochistan to search a suspected hideout of terrorists, linked with recent firing incidents on law enforcement agencies and civilians in Chaman area and planting of improvised explosive devices in surrounding areas.

As a result of continuous technical surveillance and reconnaissance of the area, a location of the terrorists was identified and security forces along with CTD were inducted.

Resultantly, while terrorists had already escaped, a huge cache of arms and ammunition including rockets, improvised explosive devices and other accessories has been recovered. The recovery has helped avert an obvious terrorist activity at some urban areas like Quetta.

QUETTA: The lives of 1200 cancer patients registered in the Balochistan Endowment Fund are in danger in the province.

Sources at Balochistan Health Department, endowment funds have not been released to the only cancer hospital of the province for two months, medicines worth Rs. 7.5 million were provided monthly to Cenar Cancer Hospital Quetta in the name of endowment fund.

However, due to non-payment of endowment fund, the vendor has stopped the supply of cancer medicines for two months.

According to health department sources, 150 patients visit Cenar Cancer Hospital on a daily basis.
