The government is targeting a 4% economic growth for the ongoing fiscal year, announced the Federal Energy Minister Hammad Azhar on Saturday.

While giving an economic outlook at a press conference today in Islamabad, Hammad Azhar said that the government will also expand the “social protection programs” in the country to help the low-income groups.

Azhar said that the government managed to reach this level of economic growth because of the “prudent economic policies” that were followed despite the “negative impact of COVID-19”.

“This will not be temporary growth it will be sustained and further strengthened,” said the federal minister.

The minister said that during the first nine months of the current fiscal year, large-scale manufacturing grew by 9% and Pakistan in March only had made exports worth $3.2 billion.

Azhar said that the foreign exchange reserves of the country had reached $23 billion while remittances also increased by 39% in the current year.

The energy minister said that the cement industry has seen a record production of 17% while better crop prices have benefitted the farmers’ community.

Pakistan’s GDP Growth Is Estimated At 3.94%

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday told via the micro-blogging site Twitter that Pakistan’s GDP is estimated at 3.94%.

According to the Prime Minister, the National Accounts Committee has finalized the GDP growth estimate & GDP growth is estimated at 3.94%.

PM Khan said that this reflects the success of our govt’s economic policies while managing COVID 19 pandemic.

In the tweet, Prime Minister said,

“Our V-shaped recovery is balanced between 3 major sectors: agriculture, industry & services.”

Hammad Azhar denies reports of increasing electricity prices

It was earlier announced that the electricity price will be increased by Rs1.72 per unit, however, Hammad Azhar on Friday has denied all the reports.

The Minister for Energy took to the micro-blogging site to clarify that the government is not increasing the electricity price.

“It is important to clarify that a Quarterly Tariff Adjustment is expiring in October and a new one will be replacing it,” said Hammad Azhar.

The Minister for Energy went on to say that the net increase in the electricity unit price will be only .08 paisa/unit.

Hammad Azhar also said that the federal cabinet did not approve an immediate increase in the price of electricity despite the recommendation of NEPRA.

The Ministry of Power has been directed to request NEPRA to reconsider the decision so that the price of electricity remains the same and should only increase eight paise in October.

PM Khan approves reduction in petrol, diesel prices

The government has decided to reduce the prices of petroleum products for 15 days.

The Minister for Finance, Revenue, Industries & Production, Hammad Azhar announced the news via Twitter.

As per the details, petrol prices have decreased by Rs 1.79 and the price of diesel has reduced by Rs 2.32.

The prices will be applicable from tomorrow.

On the other hand, the Kerosene price has reduced by Rs 2.06 and Light Diesel Oil has been reduced by Rs2.21.

Hammad Azhar also said that ,

“This follows the reduction in prices of Rs 1.55 for petrol and Rs 3 for diesel announced by the government on 1st April.”

Earlier today, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had suggested a reduction in the price of petroleum products for the next 15 days.

According to the details, OGRA in its summary to the petroleum division suggested a reduction of Rs 2 per litre in the petrol price during the last 15 days of April. The authority has also suggested a reduction of Rs 2 per litre in the diesel price.

OGRA in its summary also proposed to maintain the petroleum levy and not to increase it for the next fifteen days of the current month.
