ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved the hike in electricity price by Rs 5.40 per unit on the account of quarterly fuel adjustment.

A hearing was held in NEPRA on the fourth quarter adjustment of the financial year 2022-23.

NEPRA has approved to increase the price of electricity by Rs 5.40 per unit for the quarterly adjustment, the approval was given for the fourth quarter adjustment of the year 2022-23.

The increase in tariff will not applicable to K-Electric and lifeline consumers.

The regulatory body will issue the detailed decision of the hearing regarding electricity price hike later and the final decision and notification will be issued by the federal government.

CPPA seeks Rs4.75-per-unit hike in power tariff

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) agreed to a hike of Rs1.38/unit in electricity price.

As per a notification issued, the fuel price modification will be valid only on the bills for the month of September 2021, further that the fuel price adjustment will be applicable to all customers excluding Lifeline and K-Electric (KE).

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had demanded Nepra for a surge of Rs1.47 per unit. The authority held a public hearing on September 1, 2021, and accepted surges in power tariffs.

Hammad Azhar denies reports of increasing electricity prices

It was earlier announced that the electricity price will be increased by Rs1.72 per unit, however, Hammad Azhar on Friday has denied all the reports.

The Minister for Energy took to the micro-blogging site to clarify that the government is not increasing the electricity price.

“It is important to clarify that a Quarterly Tariff Adjustment is expiring in October and a new one will be replacing it,” said Hammad Azhar.

The Minister for Energy went on to say that the net increase in the electricity unit price will be only .08 paisa/unit.

Hammad Azhar also said that the federal cabinet did not approve an immediate increase in the price of electricity despite the recommendation of NEPRA.

The Ministry of Power has been directed to request NEPRA to reconsider the decision so that the price of electricity remains the same and should only increase eight paise in October.

NEPRA increased electricity rate by Rs1.11 per unit

NEPRA Approves To Increase Power Tariff Per Unit Up To Rs 2.97

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has increased the rate of electricity by Rs 1.11 per unit for one month. The price increase came in the wake of the September fuel price adjustment

According to the details, the cost of generating electricity in September was Rs 3.95 per unit and the pre-generation cost of electricity was Rs 2.84 per unit in September.

The decision will impose a burden of more than Rs 12 billion on power consumers. Additional collection from consumers will be made in December bills. However, the decision will not be applicable to K-electric consumers.

Earlier, NEPRA had approved a hike in tariff by 48 paise in November.

According to the details, the increase had been approved on account of the cost of the fuel adjustment for the month of August 2020.

Electricity production cost for the month of August remained at Rs3.68 per unit.

As per the NEPRA, consumers would pay an extra Rs5 billion on account of fuel adjustment in electricity bills of next month. The price hike was not applicable to K-Electric users.
