LAHORE: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Gujranwala Zone arrested two human traffickers during an ongoing crackdown in Gujrat on Friday.

According to FIA spokesperson, two traffickers– Mohammad Raza and Mehdi Hassan, were arrested in recent raids conducted across the region. Accused Raza fraudulently took 1.3 million rupees from a citizen, claiming to offer a job in Canada.

He had been wanted by the FIA Composite Circle Gujrat since 2016. Meanwhile, Mehdi Hassan swindled 130,000 rupees from a complainant by promising to send him to Iran. He had been on the run since 2020 and was wanted by the FIA Composite Circle Gujranwala.

Both suspects failed to fulfill their promises and disappeared after collecting money from the victims.

Director Abdul Qadir Qamar emphasized that all available resources were being utilized to arrest the suspects involved in similar crimes. Investigations were underway.

UK government announces crackdown on human traffickers

ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) made significant progress in its ongoing crackdown against the human trafficking agents involved in the Libyan boat accident.

Acting on the Prime Minister’s directives, authorities intensified efforts to curb human trafficking networks linked to the Libyan boat tragedy.

The FIA confirmed the arrest of 144 individuals, including 16 lawyers, during its operations. Among those apprehended was one of the Red Book’s most wanted human traffickers. In total, 197 cases were registered in connection with the incident, while the passports of 55 accused individuals were blacklisted.

Meanwhile the efforts extended to international agents as well. The red notices were issued through Interpol for 20 foreign-based traffickers.

FIA said the arrests of these agents were initiated with the assistance of global law enforcement agencies. The FIA also began blocking identity cards and bank accounts linked to individuals facilitating the human trafficking network.

The agency’s Director General, Ahmad Ishaq Jahangir, directed airport officers across the country to remain vigilant and prevent suspects from fleeing abroad. He instructed airport in-charges to ensure strict surveillance measures were in place.

FIA spokesperson confirmed that the process of blacklisting passports of facilitators was underway. Authorities pledged to use all available resources to apprehend those responsible for the tragedy.

ISLAMABAD: Federal government has started actions against the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) ​​officers and personnel involved in the Greece boat tragedy.

According to the FIA ​​spokesperson, DG FIA conducted a hearing on departmental actions against 49 officials involved in boat tragedies and 35 FIA officials involved in boat tragedies have been dismissed.

FIA spokesperson said that cases have been registered against 13 FIA officials involved in human trafficking, 4 inspectors, 10 sub-inspectors, 2 ASIs involved in boat accidents have been dismissed. 5 head constables and 14 constables of FIA involved in boat accidents were  also dismissed.

DG FIA Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir said that officials involved in negligence have no place in the institution, disciplinary action will be taken against these officials.

He said that the institution will be cleansed of black sheep involved in corruption and other irregularities and only through the process of self-accountability will it be possible to end human trafficking.
