A new giant robot named Chul-su is set to make its debut, adding another layer of intrigue and suspense to the show. Netflix shared the teaser on Instagram with the caption: “Everyone say hi to Chul-su! Season 3 coming in 2025 #SquidGame2 #SquidGame.”

Hwang Dong-hyuk, the director, writer, and executive producer of Squid Game, provided some tantalizing insights during an interview with Variety. “If you watch that clip, it’s going to give you a slight hint as to where Season 3 might take you,” he teased. “The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year.”

19 convicts involved in May 9 tragedy granted pardon: ISPR

RAWALPINDI: The sentences of at least 19 convicts have been pardoned after they appealed for mercy, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday.

According to ISPR, a total of 67 convicts have given their mercy petitions. 48 petitions have been processed to Courts of Appeal while, petitions of 19 convicts have been accepted purely on humanitarian grounds, in accordance with law. Mercy petitions of remaining will be decided in due course of time, following the legal process.

Federal Tax Ombudsman disposes of 12,914 complaints

KARACHI: Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has promptly disposed of 12,914 complaints out of 13,506 from 1^ST January to December 31, 2024.

During last calendar year ending 31st December, 2024, FTO received all time high number of complaints at 13,506.

Simultaneously, under the leadership of Federal Tax Ombudsman, FTO Secretariat, and all Regional Offices disposed of 12,914 complaints, which works out for 95.6% of total complaints.

This all-time high number of complaints is due to vigorous awareness sessions conducted by the FTO and his Advisors throughout the country.

The Chambers of Commerce & Industries of all big cities, Tax Bar Associations, Business Community Associations and Tax law practicing bodies were targeted to disseminate information about the role and functions of FTO organization, which resulted into this colossal number of complaints.

As a result of outreach and Awareness Sessions, a record number of complaints and decisions of FTO were rolled out. Resultantly, grievances of thousands of Complainants were redressed.

A comparative Account for last ten years’ institution of complaints is as given in Annexure-A.
During the year under consideration, in addition to regular complaints, the FTO also encouraged poor and less privileged Complainants for informal resolution of their grievances. As such we received 1540 informal complaints and the same were resolved.

In addition to that we received 143 reference cases which were also disposed of. The total number of Own Motion initiatives stood at 32 through which relief was granted to large number of Complainants/individuals.

FIA launches crackdown on human traffickers in boat tragedy case

UK government announces crackdown on human traffickers

ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) made significant progress in its ongoing crackdown against the human trafficking agents involved in the Libyan boat accident.

Acting on the Prime Minister’s directives, authorities intensified efforts to curb human trafficking networks linked to the Libyan boat tragedy.

The FIA confirmed the arrest of 144 individuals, including 16 lawyers, during its operations. Among those apprehended was one of the Red Book’s most wanted human traffickers. In total, 197 cases were registered in connection with the incident, while the passports of 55 accused individuals were blacklisted.

Meanwhile the efforts extended to international agents as well. The red notices were issued through Interpol for 20 foreign-based traffickers.

FIA said the arrests of these agents were initiated with the assistance of global law enforcement agencies. The FIA also began blocking identity cards and bank accounts linked to individuals facilitating the human trafficking network.

The agency’s Director General, Ahmad Ishaq Jahangir, directed airport officers across the country to remain vigilant and prevent suspects from fleeing abroad. He instructed airport in-charges to ensure strict surveillance measures were in place.

FIA spokesperson confirmed that the process of blacklisting passports of facilitators was underway. Authorities pledged to use all available resources to apprehend those responsible for the tragedy.

PM hails inflation drop to lowest level in 81 months

ISLAMABAD Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has expressed satisfaction over inflation reaching the lowest rate in 81 months.

In one of his statements, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that it is welcome that the inflation rate will reach 4.1 percent in December 2024. He said macroeconomic stability has been achieved but this is only the beginning. He said government has started a project like Uran Pakistan and will make it one of the leading countries in the world.

The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction that the inflation has reached the lowest rate in 81 months and said that after 24 years the current account has become surplus, the inflation has decreased from 38 percent to 4.1 percent.

He said that Pakistan’s stock market has become the second best market in the world and the policy rate has reduced from 22 percent to 13 percent.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif further said that due to the hard work of the government’s economic and financial team, the economy is moving towards stability.

Pakistan formally begins 2-year term at UN Security Council

UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan on Wednesday officially began its two-year term (2025-26) as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, the world body’s power center.

“As a non-permanent member of the UNSC, Pakistan will play its active role in promoting the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, including the right to self-determination of peoples under foreign occupation,” Ambassador Munir Akram said in a post on X platform.

“We will work with other Council members to promote peace & security,” the top Pakistani envoy added.

A formal flag raising ceremony for the new members of the Council –Pakistan, Denmark, Greece, Panama and Somalia — will take place on January 2 (tomorrow) at the UN headquarters in New York.

The new members replaced Japan, Ecuador, Malta, Mozambique and Switzerland whose terms ended on December 31, 2024.

Pakistan will also preside over the 15-member Council in July when it assumes its presidency according to alphabetical rotation of the member states’ official names. This will allow Islamabad to set the Security Council’s agenda.

In addition to this, Pakistan will get a seat on the Islamic State (ISIS) and Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee, which is responsible for designating individuals and groups as terrorists and imposing sanctions.

This is Pakistan’s eight term on the Council. The country’s previous terms on the UNSC were in 2012-13, 2003-04, 1993-94, 1983-84, 1976-77, 1968-69, and 1952-53.

Over the decades, Pakistan has played an active role in promoting the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and made significant contributions to international peace and security, including its role as one of the leading troop-contributing countries to UN peacekeeping missions across the world.

Pakistan, which was elected to the UN Security Council by the General Assembly in June 2024, has replaced Japan on the Asian seat.
