Filmmaker Sajid Khan has spoken candidly about the hardships he has faced since being accused of sexual harassment during Bollywood’s #MeToo movement in 2018. The allegations, which surfaced while he was directing Housefull 4, resulted in him stepping down from the project and being replaced by Farhad Samji.
In a recent interview, Khan shared, “I thought of ending my life many times in the last six years.” Reflecting on the impact of the allegations, he described the past few years as “extremely bad,” citing a lack of work and financial struggles. Despite receiving clearance from the Indian Film and Television Directors Association (IFTDA), Khan revealed that he had to sell his house and move into a rented flat to make ends meet.
Khan also opened up about his responsibilities as a caregiver for his late mother, Menaka Irani. “More than her son, I was her caretaker. Life has been quite tough,” he admitted. Recalling his early struggles, he said, “Since the age of 14, I started earning for my family because my dad passed away, leaving us in debt.”
As he attempts to rebuild his career, Khan expressed a deep wish that his mother could have witnessed his efforts to rise above adversity.
