Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has openly criticized Netflix’s top executives, accusing them of hypocrisy when selecting content for the Indian market.

Taking to Instagram, he expressed his admiration for the British drama Adolescence while lamenting the restrictions faced by Indian filmmakers on the platform.

Sharing his thoughts on the show, Kashyap wrote, “I am numb and envious and jealous that someone can go and make that.” He praised the performances of Owen Cooper and Stephen Graham, highlighting the immense effort put into the series, which was shot in single takes.

In the comments section, the Sacred Games director directly called out Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos and Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria. Criticizing their handling of Indian content, he stated, “If they were pitched this, most probably they would have rejected it or turned it into a 90-minute film.”

He also recalled his struggles with Netflix after Sacred Games, alleging a “total lack of empathy, courage, and dumbness” within the team. Kashyap accused the streaming giant of prioritizing subscriptions over quality, saying, “This hypocrisy of Ted and Bela via a vis the Indian market of 1.4 billion people… frustrates me.”

Despite his frustration, Kashyap ended on a hopeful note, expressing optimism for Indian content on Netflix, writing, “Fingers crossed for a better future.”

  • Kashyap reiterated his earlier stance, calling Bollywood “too toxic.”

Renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has officially confirmed that he has left Mumbai, citing dissatisfaction with the Hindi film industry. In a conversation with an Indian outlet, Kashyap reiterated his earlier stance, calling Bollywood “too toxic.”

“I want to stay away from film people. The industry has become too toxic. Everyone is chasing unrealistic targets, trying to make the next ₹500 or ₹800 crore film. The creative atmosphere is gone,” he stated. Reports suggest that he has likely relocated to Bangalore.

Earlier, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Kashyap had expressed frustration, saying he was “disgusted” and “disappointed” with Bollywood. Comparing it to South Indian cinema, he admitted, “I envy them (South filmmakers). Because now, it’s difficult for me to go out and experiment… The joy of filmmaking is sucked out. That’s why I want to move out. Literally, next year, I’m moving out of Mumbai.”

Currently, Kashyap is promoting the Malayalam film Footage, which he is presenting. Meanwhile, he will also be seen as a fearless cop in the upcoming film Dacoit, starring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur. The film is being shot in both Hindi and Telugu, with its release date yet to be announced.

  • She talked about her weight gain during a recent podcast episode.
  • Aaliyah developed an unhealthy relationship with food due to criticism.

Anurag Kashyap’s daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap, maintains an active presence on social media and boasts a substantial fan base. Several months ago, she announced her engagement to Shane Gregoire. Together, they host a video podcast named ‘Opposites Attract,’ where they engage in discussions covering various aspects of life, love, personal development, and more. In a recent podcast episode, the couple delved into their personal insecurities. Aaliyah candidly shared her experience with weight gain and how initial comments about her weight had an impact on her mental well-being.

During the podcast, Aaliyah revealed that she has always had a slender physique and a high metabolic rate. She mentioned, “I used to eat a lot, and I always wanted to gain weight because I was extremely skinny. No matter how much I ate, I couldn’t put on weight. My mom also had a similar experience when she was younger.” However, Aaliyah explained that her weight began to increase when she started taking antidepressants approximately two years ago. “I think I’ve gained around 12 or 13 kilograms in the past year and a half, which is  a significant change for me compared to my entire life,” she remarked.

Initially, Aaliyah was content with the weight gain as she disliked her previously very skinny appearance. However, her weight continued to increase, and she developed an unhealthy relationship with food, which adversely affected her mental health. People’s comments about her weight further exacerbated her mental well-being. Aaliyah recalled a distressing incident when a massage therapist visited her home and commented on her weight, causing her to cry.

Shane expressed his anger upon hearing about the massage therapist’s comment, emphasizing that such weight-related comments are unfortunately common in India. Aaliyah shared that she is now in a much better mental state. “When I initially gained weight, and the comments started pouring in, it felt like the end. Now, I have a mindset that if I’m unhappy with it, I’ll make a healthy change. I’m still insecure to some extent, but I have a healthier mindset,” she concluded.

Anurag Kashyap Praises Alia Bhatt As The ‘Best Performer’

Anurag Kashyap

From her Bollywood debut in “Student Of The Year” to her Hollywood entry with “Heart of Stone,” Alia Bhatt has had a remarkable journey. The new mother is basking in the glory of winning the Best Actress award at the 69th National Films Awards for her role in “Gangubai Kathiawadi.” Among the many Bollywood stars who congratulated her on this achievement was filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. However, Anurag Kashyap believes he can’t approach Alia to work with him.

In an interview, the director of “Gangs of Wasseypur” hailed Alia Bhatt as one of the finest performers in the country. He mentioned that he always reaches out to her when he appreciates her work but remains silent when he’s not pleased with her performances.

Anurag Kashyap went on to explain that due to his inclination towards low-budget films, he cannot afford to collaborate with actors of Alia Bhatt’s caliber. He said, “I think Alia is one of the best performers in the country, and I always reach out to her after watching her work. But I keep quiet when I don’t like something she’s done. I would love to work with her if it doesn’t affect the budget and the dynamics of my film, but it also has to come from the other side.”

Furthermore, the filmmaker emphasized that if any actor expresses hesitation about working with him, he promptly withdraws. He stated, “I don’t believe in wishful thinking. I don’t chase actors more than once. If they tell me to make adjustments to the script, I do it, but mostly, their hesitation is enough to get me to back out. Because if their heart isn’t in it, you can tell immediately on the screen.”

After her remarkable performance in “Gangubai Kathiawadi” in 2022, Alia Bhatt delivered consecutive hits. In the same year, she starred in the Telugu film “RRR,” followed by “Darlings” and Ayan Mukerji’s “Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva.” This year, she appeared alongside Ranveer Singh in “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani” and made her international debut with the American film “Heart of Stone,” featuring Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan, Sophie Okonedo, and Matthias Schweighöfer.

Anurag Kashyap says he was fired as director from Tere Naam

Anurag Kashyap
  • Anurag Kashyap, whose latest film Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat was released this month.
  • Anurag Kashyap recalled why he was fired from Tere Naam.
  • As he wanted Salman to not shave his chest as his character, Radhe.

Anurag Kashyap talked about being sacked from Salman Khan’s 2003 movie Tere Naam in his most recent film, Almost Pyaar, which he co-wrote and directed with DJ Mohabbat. In a recent interview, Anurag remembered the circumstances behind his dismissal from Tere Naam after writing the script; Satish Kaushik eventually took over as the film’s director. Salman’s Tere Naam character, Radhe, comes from Uttar Pradesh, “where guys don’t wax their chest,” therefore Anurag requested that Salman refrain from shaving his chest for the role.

Anurag Kashyap stated he enjoyed Salman’s flicks, including Sultan, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and Dabangg, despite the fact that Salman and the producers rejected his request that the actor not wax his chest during the filming. Abhinav Kashyap, the brother of Anurag, really directed Dabangg (2010), in which Salman portrayed an unorthodox cop.

Anurag recently stated, “I got booted out of a film because I urged the hero to not wax his chest,” in an interview with Unfiltered By Samdish. When asked which movie, Anurag responded, “Tere Naam.” Arrey Agra-Mathura ki film thi, wahan aise thoda hee hota hai, he stated as he continued to explain why he requested Salman to grow chest hair.

Actress Bhumika Chawla made her Bollywood début with Tere Naam, which also featured Salman. In the movie, Radhe, played by Salman, falls for Bhumika’s Nirjara and stalks and threatens her in an effort to win her over. The movie, which was co-written by Bala and Jainendra Jain, is a remake of Chiyaan Vikram-starring Bala’s 1999 Tamil film Sethu.

Director Satish Kaushik discussed a remake of Tere Naam and compared Kabir Singh (2019) to it in an interview with The Indian Express from 2022. We’ll absolutely need to change with the times, he had stated. It will be challenging to make the same movie and get Salman to give the same performance. Salman has consistently argued that the movie is solid and will succeed. However, the character in it conveys the incorrect message. Kabir Singh was also the subject of discussion. Tere Naam was turned as Kabir Singh.

Anurag claims that Abhishek was really brash at the beginning

Anurag
  • Anurag Kashyap shared his experience of working with Abhishek Bachchan.
  • Abhishek was’brattish’ and ‘entirely different’ from the actor .
  • Abhishek worked with in Manmarziyaan.

In a recent interview, Anurag Kashyap discussed his experiences working with actor Abhishek Bachchan. The director claimed that Abhishek “was really brattish” in his early days in the film business. He also recalls telling Amitabh Bachchan to tone down his acting while they were filming for the television program Yudh. Amitabh, according to Anurag, “takes criticism well.”.

“Anurag and I (Abhishek) collaborated on Yuva. The dialogue for that movie is my own. My brother worked as an AD on it as well, and we collaborated closely with Abhishek on the dubbing of the movie. He is a really diligent individual. He enjoys cuisine and is cultured. But in the beginning, he was a real brat. He would make fun of everything and had no sense of seriousness. But both he and other people evolve. That Abhishek is quite different from the Abhishek I worked with on Manmarziyaan, “Anurag Kashyap spoke to The Lallantop in Hindi and made a statement.

Anurag continued by sharing Amitabh’s response to being requested to lessen the Amitabh Bachchan-ness of his performance in Yudh. “He is tolerant of criticism. I saw that he was giving a typical Amitabh Bachchan performance, and I told him that I needed something more authentic, “In the same interview, Anurag remarked.

On Yudh, Anurag served as the creative director. Actors Sarika, Zakir Hussain, Mona Wasu, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Kay Kay Menon were also present. 2014 saw Yudh’s Sony Entertainment Television debut.

On February 3, the newest movie from Anurag featuring DJ Mohabbat, Almost Pyaar, was released. Anurag’s musical romantic drama stars Alaya F and Karan Mehta, who is making his acting debut. A passage from the Hindustan Times review of Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat said, “Anurag Kashyap’s Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat could seem a little unusual if you are tired of seeing mindless movies that only look wonderful on screen and don’t ask you to search for logic. Not because of any outstanding artistic merit, but rather because of the sheer intricacy that Kashyap injects into his narrative, which makes it tougher for you to focus on the screen and make sense of what is even happening.”

Anurag admits that Sanjay Leela Bhansali despised Dev D

Anurag
  • Anurag Kashyap spoke about filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali in a new interview.
  • He also revealed Sanjay’s reaction to his Dev D (2009) adaptation.
  • Both films are based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic Bengali novel Devdas.

In a recent interview, Anurag Kashyap discussed the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. A few years after the premiere of the director’s Devdas (2002), which starred Shah Rukh Khan, he also discussed Sanjay’s response to his film Dev D (2009). The renowned Bengali novel Devdas by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay is the basis for both movies. However, according to Anurag in a recent interview, Sanjay “hated” his interpretation of Devdas.

Sanjay did not like Dev D, according to Anurag Kashyap, who even said that Dev D had “ruined Chandramukhi and Paro.” In Sanjay’s Devdas, Aishwarya Rai played the role of Paro, Devdas’ childhood friend, while Madhuri Dixit played his confidante Chandramukhi, a courtesan. Mahi Gill portrays Abhay’s childhood sweetheart in Anurag’s contemporary rendition of the Bengali classic, which is set in modern-day Punjab and Delhi and features Chanda (Kalki Koechlin), a sex worker.

Anurag responded, “He (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) despised it,” when asked what Sanjay thought of Dev D in a recent interview with Unfiltered By Samdish. You have damaged Chandramukhi and Paro, he claimed. He mentioned it to Vikram (Vikramaditya Motwane), his assistant and a co-writer on Dev D, rather than to me. Bhansali is an expert. He is a complete freak of genius when it comes to music and dancing. He has now also learned about violence. He displayed violence in Gangubai (Alia Bhatt’s 2022 film Gangubai Kathiawadi). I went and told him, “tu apne limitations se bahar nikla,” since I was so ecstatic about it (you are now coming out of your limitations)

Anurag continued by describing how Sanjay had been angered by a magazine article he had once written about the film Black (2005). Anurag claimed the director of the movie with Rani Mukerji and Amitabh Bachchan believed he was “his adversary.” Black asked Anurag if he liked him, and Anurag said, “I didn’t. I refused to believe it. Sanjay was really unhappy when I wrote about why I didn’t believe it. Since it was personal to him, the work was not intended for publication. Hum dost ho gaye hain, ab wapis. When the ice breaks, it will be mujhe karna pada khud jaa ke (we are friends again after I went and broke the ice with him)… Anurag is an extremely reserved individual.

He has a terrible public presence. I keep reminding him that he should let go of that. He takes his time before he can trust someone. He also manages his personal trauma. He grew up watching the movie business extremely carefully and detested it.

Alaya F and rookie Karan Mehta played the main characters in Anurag Batra’s final movie, Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat. It became available on February 3. The movie saw Anurag and Amit Trivedi, who had previously collaborated on Dev D, return to the romantic musical genre.

Anurag Kashyap claimed that Shah Rukh had “given up” on him because he believes that he doesn’t “get things” in an interview with Unfiltered by Samdish. “Woh to mere college ke senior hain,” Anurag remarked when discussing his friendship with Shah Rukh. Shah Rukh is my senior at college; whenever he calls, I get up and answer the phone.

The actor (SRK) has given up on me, Anurag continued. Mujhe kuch samajh nahi ayega, unko lagta hai ki mera kuch nahi ho sakta (Shah Rukh thinks I do not understand things). He constantly reminds me of the things I must not do, like a big brother. He explained to me why I shouldn’t tweet or say certain things.

Anurag Kashyap continued by saying that Shah Rukh Khan offered him advise on a variety of topics. He acknowledged receiving a writing offer for the Asoka, starring Shah Rukh Khan, film. “Pehle Asoka ayi thi mere paas likne ke liye. Unke bohot sare aise projects aate the, par main tabhi se thoda avoid karta tha. Woh Shah Rukh Khan hai, unka ek stardom hai, ek worldview hai. Main jaisi film banana chahta hoon, mujhe wahi banana hai (First Asoka was offered to me to write. A lot of his films were offered but I’ve always avoided them a little. Shah Rukh has a worldview, stardom, and I cannot make films that do him justice. I want to make films my way).”

He claimed that everyone who loves about Anurag wants him to view the world the way they do, not only Shah Rukh. “Everything that a normal person should or must do in the eyes of the world, woh (Shah Rukh) bhi waise hai, sab waise hai,” the speaker said. “Aap bole na saving nahi karte ho, practical kyun nahi hote ho. Anurag remarked, “Mujhe waise jena hi nahi hai.

AWDJM review :Anurag directs a film that is as perplexing as its leads

AWDJM
  • APWDJM is one of those films that requires you to look at the screen in a completely different way.
  • Kashyap infuses in his story that requires you to concentrate on the screen.
  • The screen a bit harder to understand what is even happening.

Anurag Kashyap’s Almost Pyaar featuring DJ Mohabbat might seem a little unusual if you are tired of seeing mindless movies that only look wonderful on screen and don’t ask you to search for logic. You have to focus a little bit more on the screen to grasp what is even happening due of the story’s overwhelming complexity, not because of any outstanding aesthetic that Kashyap has included.

The movie depicts two concurrent storylines in two distinct settings, one in Dalhousie and the other in London. Both novels feature confused young people who, while never explicitly admitting their connection and calling it love, leave enough room for a Romeo and Juliet-style romance to be inferred. Although their love tales are already doomed, Kashyap’s approach to them is really peculiar. Local Dalhousie kid Yakub (debutant Karan Mehta), who distributes counterfeit film CDs, is drawn to Amrita, a 16-year-old student, and offers to take her to the movies for free because he thinks she’s “attractive.” The two leave their house to attend DJ Mohabbat’s concert because they admire him so much. Meanwhile, in London, a spoiled affluent girl named Ayesha (also Alaya F) is obsessed with a small-time DJ Harmeet (also Karan Mehta) who plays at a club where Ayesha visits to take a break from her ‘modern’ family.and are inextricably linked somewhere. He ends up taking on much too many topics as a result of the process. To a greater extent than it is capable of handling, Almost Pyaar attempts to merge patriarchy, love jihad, homophobia, and religious fundamentalism. As a result, it’s unclear to you what the movie is trying to express. Do the two terrible love stories represent the conclusion? Or does it genuinely want us to feel resentment at patriarchy and all of the aforementioned problems that persist in our society?

The thing that annoyed me the most with Almost Pyaar is that despite mentioning far too many topics at once, none of them are discussed in length, and their remarks simply pass by without having any lasting effect. In the end, it begins to appear chaotic and incredibly confusing because there are too many subplots included. Even though the movie is just 121 minutes long, you still wish the climax would arrive a little sooner.

Each assignment Alaya F does sees her improvement. She is assured, convincing, and brings out the depths of her personalities as both Ayesha and Amrita. She conveys the polar opposites of the innocence she emits as a schoolgirl and the flamboyance she wears playing a rich brat with equal ease. As a debutant, Karan Mehta—the son of a Punjabi filmmaker—shows promise and receives ample screen time to demonstrate his acting abilities. However, both Yakur and his hairand Harmeet frequently serve as diversion, but I had the impression that Kashyap made a purposeful attempt to highlight only particular aspects of Mehta’s characters. Vicky Kaushal, who plays DJ Mohabbat, is endearing every time he appears on screen, but I couldn’t understand how his character connected the two tales other than the fact that the four kids all enjoy music and want to see DJ Mohabbat perform. In truth, Kaushal’s opening comments in the movie are lifted directly from Javed Akhtar and Gulzar’s novels, but his sporadic appearance in different scenes serves more as a puzzle piece than as the movie’s narrator.

All in all, I thoroughly adored the soundtrack of the movie. After dev D and Manmarziyaan, Kashyap teamed up with Amit Trivedi once more to produce an album with cool and funny lyrics that talks to you and engages you. Mind you, the movie has maybe eight songs, and each one advances the story rather than merely serving as filler. The following love anthem may very well be Mohabbat Se Kranti. Arjun Kanungo makes a lovely cameo appearance while performing at a club, and the song “Netflix and Chill” features a plug for the well-known streaming service.

To sum up, I’d advise seeing Almost Pyaar as if you were attending a musical concert, with short sketches interspersed to keep you engaged. However, don’t strive too hard to understand the film’s purpose; otherwise, your efforts might not be successful. And the cliffhanger conclusion might pique your interest. Is a sequel already in the works? Perhaps Kashyap can provide an answer for us.

Anurag Kashyap on the cancellation of Sacred Games 3

Anurag
  • Anurag Kashyap has reiterated that the third season of his popular web show Sacred Games has been shelved.
  • He also added that he is not working for digital platforms right now.
  • All scared since the controversies around Ali Abbas Zafar’s 2021 web show Tandav.

The third season of Anurag Kashyap’s well-known web series Sacred Games has once again been postponed. Additionally, he said that he is not currently working for any digital platforms since they are all afraid following the scandal surrounding Ali Abbas Zafar’s web series Tandav from 2021.

Sacred Games was directed by Anurag and Vikramaditya Motwane. Along with many other actors, the show featured Saif Ali Khan, Pankaj Tripathi, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Anurag remarked to Mashabale India, “When the interviewer applauded Sacred Games and said he expected the director to produce more explosive stuff on OTT, “I actually worked on it because I wanted to do so much. But OTT’s aaj ke date was unsuccessful. Today, OTT lacks the bravery (Tandav ke baad sab dar gaye hain). Since Tandav, everyone has been afraid.”

“Now, I’m not interested in the (kind of work on) OTT where I’m not permitted to give characters surnames and I’m not allowed to depict things as they actually are. I’m unable to perform this hygiene task. I won’t carry it out. I’d rather not do it if I can’t keep it real “Added he

Anurag stated that he likes to work on projects that he finds enjoyable rather than performing the “hygienic stuff” for OTT merely because it is what everyone else is doing.

He also spoke about joining the team for Sacred Games throughout the interview. He claimed that the producers first turned him down because someone had informed them that “Anurag Kashyap does not draw female audience.” Vikramaditya later extended an invitation for him to participate, and he accepted. The show’s third season was canceled, and according to the creator, only Netflix knows why.

Several FIRs were made in six states before to the release of Tandav, alleging that the film’s content offended religious emotions. The show finally needed to have several scenes altered.
