Donald Trump to name Rep. Michael Waltz as National Security Advisor

Michael Waltz

President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly set to name Rep. Michael Waltz, a Florida Republican, as his national security adviser, according to sources familiar with the decision.

This key role involves advising the president on foreign and national security policies and does not require Senate confirmation.

Waltz, a decorated Green Beret veteran with multiple combat tours in Afghanistan, the Middle East, and Africa, was first elected to Congress in 2018, succeeding Ron DeSantis after he became Florida’s governor.

Waltz is known for his firm stance on China, serving on the House China Task Force, which addresses the Chinese Communist Party’s influence. He has also voiced skepticism about continued U.S. aid to Ukraine amid its conflict with Russia.

“We have leverage, like taking the handcuffs off of the long-range weapons we provided Ukraine as well. And then, of course, I think we have plenty of leverage with Zelenskyy to get them to the table,” Michael Waltz told NPR earlier this month, referencing the possibility of pushing for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

Waltz’s military career spanned nearly 30 years, during which he earned four Bronze Stars, two for valor. Prior to serving in Congress, he held key positions at the Pentagon and the White House, including defense policy director for Secretaries of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Robert Gates.

Waltz’s wife, Julia Nesheiwat, also worked in the Trump administration, serving as Homeland Security adviser during the final year of Trump’s first term.

Trump’s previous national security advisers included H.R. McMaster, John Bolton, and Robert O’Brien.

Vicky Kaushal’s father recalls challenging fire scene in OSO and SRK’s support

Vicky Kaushal's father
  • Vicky Kaushal’s father reflected on one of the most challenging scenes.
  • He recalled the fire scene from the 2007 hit film Om Shanti Om.
  • Kaushal explained the immense pressure to time everything perfectly.

Sham Kaushal, a veteran action director and father of actor Vicky Kaushal, recently reflected on one of the most challenging scenes of his career during an interview with Friday Talkies.

Vicky Kaushal’s father, who has worked on countless action sequences over the years, recalled the fire scene from the 2007 hit film Om Shanti Om, which almost gave him a heart attack due to the high risk involved.

At the time, VFX technology was limited, so the fire scene was shot using real flames, with three cameras and 60 crew members on set. Kaushal explained the immense pressure to time everything perfectly. “We were very vigilant about the timing of the shoot, the lighting, and extinguishing the fire as a slight delay would have proved detrimental to us,” he said. The stunt director described those 4-5 days of filming as “incredibly difficult.”

After wrapping the intense shoot, Kaushal admitted that he broke down in tears. “These are the moments that kill you, and you feel like you’re going to suffer a heart attack,” he revealed. Shah Rukh Khan, the film’s lead actor, noticed Kaushal’s anxiety and offered reassurance, saying, “Paaji tension na le, main aisa nikal jaunga.”

Even after decades in the industry, Kaushal admitted, “There is nothing in my field that I could call ‘easy’.” Om Shanti Om also marked Deepika Padukone’s debut in Hindi cinema.

‘Yellowstone’ nears end as cast addresses fan theories and Kevin Costner’s exit

Yellowstone
  • The popular TV series Yellowstone is coming to a close.
  • Fans have begun speculating about the fate of the Dutton family.
  • Cole Hauser has debunked all fans’ theories.

After six years of success, the popular TV series Yellowstone is coming to a close, with the final episodes of season five now airing. As fans eagerly await the conclusion, many have begun speculating about the fate of the Dutton family.

However, actor Cole Hauser, who plays ranch foreman Rip Wheeler, has debunked these theories, stating they are all inaccurate.

“This show and what they think this season is going to be – everybody has their opinion of it,” Hauser told Reuters. “And to be quite honest, none of them are right.”

Even the cast was kept in the dark about the ending, as some scripts were redacted to preserve the mystery. Season five was split into two parts, with the final six episodes premiering on the Paramount Network for U.S. fans and in Britain on Monday. In India, only the first three seasons are available on Netflix, with later seasons expected to arrive later.

Yellowstone has become the top-rated scripted show in the U.S. since its 2018 debut, leading to two spinoffs. The final episodes, however, will proceed without star Kevin Costner, whose departure was described as both “energizing and disheartening” by the cast.

Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, said of Costner’s exit, “The way that Taylor [Sheridan] has ended this season is the way he always intended it to.”

Toxic air posing severe risk to 11M children in Punjab: UNICEF

UNICEF

UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, has warned that highly polluted air in Pakistan’s Punjab province is posing severe risks to people, including more than 11 million children under the age of five.

Air pollution levels broke records in the provincial capital, Lahore, and several other districts this past week, surpassing the World Health Organization’s air quality guidelines by more than 100 times, the UN agency reported in a statement issued in Islamabad and New York.

It stated that hundreds of people, including dozens of children, have been hospitalized in hard-hit cities, and the pollution is so severe that it is visible from space.

“As smog continues to persist in Punjab province, I am extremely concerned about the well-being of young children who are forced to breathe polluted, toxic air,” Abdullah Fadil, the UNICEF representative in Pakistan, said in a statement issued in Islamabad.

He called for urgent efforts to reduce air pollution and protect children’s health, noting that even before the record-breaking levels of smog, about 12% of deaths in children under five in Pakistan were attributed to air pollution.

“The impact of this year’s extraordinary smog will take time to assess, but we know that doubling and tripling the amount of pollution in the air will have devastating effects, particularly on children and pregnant women,” Fadil said.

Authorities in Punjab have closed schools in smog-affected districts until mid-November in their bid to protect children from smog, particularly during the morning commute when levels are often at their highest. Additionally, visits to parks, zoos, playgrounds, and other recreational places have been prohibited until November 17 to limit public exposure to air pollution.

The provincial government has made it compulsory for everyone in Lahore to wear a face mask, while 50% of employees must work from home as part of what is dubbed the “green lockdown” in the city. Barbecuing food without filters at restaurants is banned, and wedding halls must close at 10 p.m.

“As a result, the learning of almost 16 million children in Punjab has been disrupted. Pakistan, already in the grips of an education emergency with 26.2 million children out of school, cannot afford more learning losses,” the UNICEF representative said.

  • He has since decided to find a balance between his passion and life.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan revealed why he briefly considered quitting films before the release of Laal Singh Chaddha.

Reflecting on his 35-year career, Aamir shared that the Covid-19 pandemic prompted him to reassess his life choices, particularly in terms of personal relationships.

Aamir explained, “Towards the end of Covid-19, I felt, sitting alone and thinking I’ve spent the bulk of my adult life, starting from the age of 18 when I became an assistant right up to now, all of my bandwidth, my focus has been cinema and films.” He admitted that this realization led to feelings of guilt: “I felt that I had not been there for these people… I went through that emotional moment where I felt I’ve given my whole life to cinema and I’ve not been there for my family.”

It was his children, Junaid and Ira Khan, who convinced him to reconsider. Junaid’s advice particularly stood out, as he told Aamir that he was going from “one extreme to another” and that “somewhere in the middle also there is a space that you can be in.” Aamir has since decided to find a balance between his passion for cinema and his family life.

On the work front, Amir Khan was last seen in the film Laal Singh Chaddha and made a guest appearance in Salam Venky.
