A 77-year-old slice of cake from Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s 1947 wedding has fetched $2,800 at auction.
The slice, originally part of a 500-pound cake served at the royal couple’s wedding on November 20, 1947, was preserved in a box featuring then-Princess Elizabeth’s silver insignia. Along with the cake, the package included a printed letter from the bride and a decorative doily.
The cake slice was originally gifted to Marion Polson, a housekeeper at Holyrood House in Edinburgh, Scotland, by the royal couple. Decades later, it was put up for auction by Reeman Dansie, an auction house specializing in royal memorabilia.
Reeman Dansie confirmed that the historic piece of Queen Elizabeth II’s wedding cake sold for $2,831, a testament to the enduring interest in royal history and memorabilia. Despite its age, the cake remains a unique keepsake from one of the most significant royal weddings in modern British history.
Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s marriage spanned more than 70 years until Philip’s death in 2021, and collectibles from their wedding continue to draw significant interest from royal enthusiasts and collectors worldwide.
