The highly anticipated trailer and title for Mission: Impossible 8 starring Tom Cruise were revealed on Monday.

Officially titled The Final Reckoning, the film is set to hit theaters on May 23, 2025. Originally intended as Part Two of 2023’s Dead Reckoning, the release was delayed due to the pandemic and the SAG-AFTRA actors strike.

Tom Cruise first announced the title and poster with the caption, “Every choice has led to this,” building excitement for the conclusion of Ethan Hunt’s adventures.

Shortly after, the first action-packed trailer dropped, featuring Cruise’s character, Ethan Hunt, engaging in intense stunts, including scuba diving and exploring a wrecked submarine. The teaser also shows Ethan flying and falling out of a biplane. Angela Bassett returns as CIA Director Erika Sloane, last seen in Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

In Dead Reckoning, Ethan faces a powerful AI program called The Entity, which could cause catastrophic damage if it falls into the wrong hands. The eighth film continues this storyline, with Ethan tracking The Entity aboard an old Russian submarine, while a past foe, Gabriel (Esai Morales), is also in pursuit.

Returning stars include Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell, and Vanessa Kirby. New cast members joining the franchise are Hannah Waddingham, Janet McTeer, and Nick Offerman. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, The Final Reckoning promises to be a thrilling conclusion to the beloved action series.
