KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presiding over a cabinet meeting decided to launch Kissan Card to support peasants.

Chairman Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has given clear instructions for the issuance of Kissan cards and preparing a plan to carry out development initiatives in every district. “I want to constitute a committee to implement the Election Manifesto of the party so that all the 10 points as announced by the chairman can be implemented in true letter and spirit,” he said.

He said that Kissan Cards would be issued to farmers benefiting from various government programmes. He added that it aimed at consolidating the recipient’s information for transparent and efficient implementation of these interventions.

CM Sindh said that his government would develop a digital platform and provide all district administrations with user logins to enter details of farmers in their jurisdictions.The information added to the system would pertain to demographics, contact details, crops and landholding patterns, livestock, irrigation system and mechanization.

Murad Shah said that this initiative would result in an appropriate allocation of schemes to the right farmers, ease in broadcasting messages to the larger masses and the creation of a centralized database.

He said that the Kissan card holders would be given preference in the procurement of wheat and held in case of natural disasters. Mr Shah constituted a committee with the Minister of Irrigation, SMBR, and Secretary of Agriculture to start developing data and submit their recommendations.

President approves dismissal of SC’s Justice Mazahir Ali Naqvi

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari approved the dismissal of  Supreme Court (SC)  Justice (Retd) Mazahir Ali Naqvi.

The Ministry of Law also issued a notification for the dismissal of former judge Mazahir Ali Naqvi of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

According to the notification, the Supreme Judicial Council declared Mazhar Naqvi guilty of judicial misconduct.

The notification of Mazahir Naqvi’s resignation as a judge was also withdrawn.

It should be noted that this month the Supreme Judicial Council had sent its opinion to the President for approval recommending the dismissal of Mazahir Naqvi.

 

In the statement issued in this regard, it was said that the Supreme Judicial Council reviewed 9 complaints against Mazahir Naqvi, these complaints were reviewed under Clause (6) of Article 206 of the Constitution.

ECP issues code of conduct for Senate election

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a code of conduct for the Senate elections to be held on April 2.

ECP has issued a code for Senate candidates, prohibiting actions that undermine Islam, Pakistan’s values, sovereignty, security, morality, public order, or the integrity of its institutions like Parliament, the judiciary, or the Armed Forces.

The code issued by the electoral body cautioned candidates to adhere to all directives for smooth elections and avoid criticizing the Commission, as failure to do so could lead to contempt proceedings under the Elections Act 2017.

“The political parties, candidates, voters, and election agents must not engage in any activities that could undermine the glory of Islam, the ideology of Pakistan, or the sovereignty, integrity, or security of the country,” said the code.

Moreover, candidates are barred from participating in corrupt or illegal activities as outlined in the Elections Act 2017. They are also forbidden from soliciting support from individuals in public service to sway election results.

Likewise, individuals in public service are prohibited from interfering in the election process or endorsing any candidate.

Polling station visitors, including the President, Governors, and other individuals, are required to follow specific regulations, such as refraining from using electronic devices. The candidates must establish a separate bank account for election-related expenses.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad court acquitted Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan in two more cases of vandalism during the Long March.

Islamabad Judicial Magistrate Sahib Bilal heard the acquittal pleas of Imran Khan and others in the cases of vandalism during the long march, in which the court said that the founder of PTI and other accused were accused of inciting people during the long march. He remarked, “If the public was instigated by Imran Khan and others, then the prosecution has to prove it in hindsight”.

The court said that no evidence has been submitted in the court against founder PTI and others The record is insufficient to prosecute the case against all the accused.

Later, the court acquitted Imran Khan in two more cases of vandalism during the Long March.

The court also acquitted Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Parvez Khattak, Saifullah Niazi and Amir Mehmood Kiani, Ali Nawaz Awan, Raja Khurram, Faisal Javed, Sheikh Rashid and Shireen Mazari.

PESHAWAR: The nomination papers of two Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf(PTI) leaders for the Senate elections were rejected by the Election Commission of Pakistan(ECP).

ECP Spokesperson said the electoral body rejected the nomination papers of PTI leaders Murad Saeed and Azam Swati for the Senate election from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on general and technocrat seats, respectively.

Similarly, the nomination papers of the leader of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Parliamentarians and former chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan have also been rejected.

The ECP has also issued the final list of 30 candidates whose nomination papers have been approved including 16 for general seats, eight for technocrat, and six for women’s seats.

The development comes as the ECP is set to hold elections for 48 seats of the upper house on April 2 which were vacated after the expiration of the six-year term of the incumbent senators on March 11.

The members of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Sindh, and Punjab assemblies would vote to elect members against seven general seats, two women and two seats for technocrats, including Ulema.
